Hmmmmmm........it's funny that 391.41( b ) (5) does!!! Maybe you'd better read up on the regulations a little closer! https://nrcme.fmcsa.dot.gov/mehandbook/respiratory4_ep.aspx I also find it funny it is directly mentioned right on the long form physical report! Read under "Respiratory Dysfunction" on page 6 of the long form. All of this is part of "49 CFR 391.41 Physical Qualifications for Drivers". https://cms.fmcsa.dot.gov/sites/fmcsa.dot.gov/files/docs/Medical_Examination_Report_for_Commercial_Driver_Fitness_Determination_649-F%286045%29.pdf Well, off to bed for me to spend a little quality time with my CPAP, and I now sleep very well knowing that my sleep is being monitored via a wireless modem that is directly attached to the machine. It's now just another part of my compliance just like my electronic log book. EDIT: Also, by the way, my insurance took care of the testing and my carrier is taking care of the cost of the machine. The only way the machine will be anything out of pocket to me is if I leave before being employed for one year. I just see the machine as another part of my sign on bonus!

Not looking bad at all Marshall! There is only one thing I noticed you are missing so far, the "Werner" mudflaps! Just in case you don't have any pics for them, I got you covered! If you need them, here are the door decals, too. I'll have to check my laptop and my external hard drives, because they are not in the pics of my old Pete on Photobucket, but I'm pretty sure I have the DOT numbers and even the Werner DOT inspection "arrow" decal too.

As a professional driver of 16 1/2 years, I have seen changes to the regulations from the change in the hours of service from 10 hours to 11 hours of driving, 8 hours to 10 hours for the sleeper/rest break, and 15 hours on duty before a necessary rest break before driving again to the current 14 hour day once you come on duty and then the required rest break no matter how many hours you have worked or driven, and the new 34 hour restart, and have learned to live with it. The new rules on the DOT physical including the new national registry for the physicians and the new sleep apnea testing is just another set of rules I have learned to live with, and all I have to say to the steering wheel holders who are making a big fuss on the new rules, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, FIND A NEW PROFESSION!!! Before anyone starts slamming me for my feelings on the subject or slamming the rules in general or the "retards" (as mentioned in another post in this thread) making the rules, I happen to be 6'0" tall weighing in at 358 pounds, and have a 19 1/2 inch neck size, plus I have high blood pressure and a loud snorer, all of which flagged me at my last physical in February for a sleep study and only received a 3 month medical card until I got my sleep study. Of course, at first, I felt like I was being picked on, but guess what, the sleep study showed I do have sleep apnea. Did it mean I lost my licence? NO! Did it mean my medical card wouldn't be renewed? NO! Did it mean I'd lose my job? NO! Did finding out that I do have sleep apnea and now have to use a CPAP machine at least 4 hours a night by the regulations (and I use mine the ENTIRE time I sleep) mean I'm getting better sleep than I did before the sleep study? YES!! Does it mean that I feel more rested when I get up in the morning? YES! Does it mean I have more energy not only during my working days but also my days off at home? YES!! Even though I have always been a safe driver, does this mean I'm even safer now behind the wheel? YES!! Am I happy that I found out that I did have sleep apnea and now happy that I had to get tested do to the new regulations? YES!!!! After my sleep study, I found that my high blood pressure may actually be contributed to the sleep apnea, and it also causes moodiness and irritability because of the lack of restful sleep, and also could cause a heart attack or stroke because the apneas where I would not be getting the oxygen I needed while sleeping was overworking my heart. The way it was described to me, during an apnea event my heart would be not in a resting state the way it should be, but instead racing like I was running a marathon, and making my heart do more work than it should be. As I said, I wasn't happy at first with the new rule, but after using my CPAP machine for a month now, I already feel much better than I have for a long time, and I'm happy with the new rules. It was an adjustment sleeping with the mask for the machine, but one I was happy to make.

I have to go with the flow (no pun intended ) David, the first to pics look like a nice combination. I also like it with the Mack cab, but think it would look much better with the Mack if you used the control box in the pics with the ALF and sectioned the sides to about half the height that they are in the pics. The lower sides would also make it look right for the scratchbuilt cab in the last pic.

Wheelbase on the Moebius Lonestar?
highway replied to hooknladderno1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I guess while I'm running errands tomorrow on my day off, I'm going to settle the which way is correct (for my knowledge, because I hate knowing what I'm told is not correct, not doubting those who said they build frames) and spec out a Lonestar at the local dealer! -

You measure it your way, but I think I'll stick with what the mechanic told me as correct. I think that since he is a mechanic, former driver, and he is also a modeller and knows this was a research question, he knows a little more than some online picture. I guess the old saying is true, "I saw it online so it has to be true!" -
Yep, as others said, that's the risk you get buying older sealed kits. I've had a few like that to, sometimes it's windows and sometimes its the bodies themselves.

It would take a lot of work in the front, but that might work. -
Paint Strippers - What to Use?
highway replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I just remembered to about something else my friend I mentioned earlier in the thread (while this was still in the truck section and not merged with an old dead thread ) that I had wondered if it would work as a paint stripper and he tried, Dawn Power Dissolver. I haven't tried it myself to confirm his results, but in his trial, he told me it stripped paint almost as quickly as it does chrome. If I remember correctly, he had sprayed it on a body in the afternoon and by evening, the body was ready to be cleaned off. -
LOL Nick, that's why I'm not in any hurry for a Cascadia! My old Century might be an 06 and have a little over 646,000 miles on the clock, but at least she hasn't been in the shop like some of the Cascadias in our fleet. So far, the only issue I have had was a parking park valve mounted on the frame come off its mount and end up hanging against the interaxle drive shaft, which rubbed a hole in an air line fitting. After a new fitting and some zip ties to put it back on its mounting plate, I was back to rolling. I'd like to have the extra room, but I don't mind having a reliable truck and being one of the oddball orange trucks still left in our dedicated fleet, almost all the others are the white Cascadias.

Yeah, and the fuel gauge was on full just before the pic!

Wheelbase on the Moebius Lonestar?
highway replied to hooknladderno1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had a chance to talk to my mechanic friend the other night at work and asked him about the way the wheelbase is measured, and it is from the center of the steering axle to the center of the rearmost axle. He said it is measured the same as you would measure the wheelbase on a car, the number of axles make no difference, it is always the center of the front steering axle to the rearmost axle. -
Paint Strippers - What to Use?
highway replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've never used purplepower myself, but a friend of mine does for his paint stripper, and he has found that some older, harder paints it doesn't cut through very well. The newer paints it breezes through, but he's has some troubles with older builds. As for it attacking putty, I think he has had that happen too, especially with the model types. If I remember correctly, it also will debond most glues, and he found the hard way NOT to use it with resin, he lost a resin body when he tried to strip it and came back to find a puddle in his purple pond. I've used "Lake Brake" for years, my funny little name for my clear storage box filled with brake fluid. Sure, it doesn't work as fast as the purple stuff, but since I seem to have a bad habit of builds going to the back burner, it works for me. I've had a Western Star a friend started in the late 90s that he lost interest in and gave back to me in "Lake Brake" literally for years (about 6 or 7) with no ill effects. The paint has been off of it for years too! -
This is my main daily driver, seen in its natural habitat, delivering groceries. By the way, the "black eye" was already there when I got it! When I'm not working, the weekend daily driver is a 1983 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue with a 318 and still gets between 15 and 20 MPG! I don't have a pic of it, it's a rustbucket and might break the camera! It's just basically a Dodge Diplomat made into a "luxury" car.

Yep, same here Austin and James, I've only been using it since Thursday night and already feeling better.

I got a diagnosis of having sleep apnea Thursday morning after doing a sleep study Wednesday night, I got a new CPAP machine that I have to use in both the truck and at home, and at least it is dual powered, it's made to plug into the wall here at home and comes with a cigarette lighter adapter to plug in while I'm in the truck.

But yet we complain about $4.00 a gallon gas but we will still happily buy the ink when the low ink light comes on! The last time I went to buy ink for my Lexmark printer, I ended up buying HP ink and got a free printer with it! It was actually cheaper to buy the HP printer with the ink than it was to buy just the Lexmark ink.

Tornadic storms are forecast for the Chicagoland area.

And if someone believes the car is safe, just look at the 80,000 LB rig in Marshall's signature picture!!!! Even if it was empty, that truck would still be tipping the scales at just under 35,000 LBS, and if it or a train can be tossed around like a Hot Wheels taking flight to the toy box, your 3000 LB car would be like a leaf in the breeze! -
The same happened when the Pilot truckstop chain bought out Speedway truck stops and also the Flying J truckstop chain. There are still instances today where at the same interstate exit there is a Pilot on one side and a Flying J on the other side of the highway or maybe even right across the street or next door. The same also holds true for the Travelcenters of America (T/A truckstops) and the Petro truckstop chain, T/A bought out the Petro chain. At least with the T/A and Petro merger, T/A was smart enough to not change the Petro to fit them, Pilot did that with Flying J and with Pilot having mostly fast food joints in them and the old pre-merger Flying J's having a great sit down restaurant called the Country Market Buffet (they went by another name in some parts of the country though) and after the merger, Pilot did away with the restaurants and put in Denny's!! I used to plan my trip just to stop for the night and stop at Flying J's just to have the good buffet, now it's just either Denny's or Wendy's.

Wheelbase on the Moebius Lonestar?
highway replied to hooknladderno1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well didn't ask the shop's modeling mechanic yet, but did Google it and from a few sites I looked at, I am incorrect. I haven't figured out if I can copy and paste site addresses using my new phone yet, but the two that I looked at both said that the wheelbase is measured from the center of the front steer axle to the center of the REAR drive axle hub. I guess now I have to remeasure the wheelbase of my custom Ford and find out its correct wheelbase!
