Wow, those are nice tires Davin! Alan does some great work. Does the Hoosier markings come with them or are they from something else? -
Midnight Express
highway replied to bandit1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
...Or a LOOOONG time sitting in it! I had some steel coils painted with Testors Model Master Steel enamal that was at least 10 years old and it stripped that. Of course I let them sit for about 3 or 4 months, so I don't know how quickly the Power Dissolver actually worked on the paint. -

If you're talking about the Power Dissolver Sean, you can use it straight from the bottle. Just keep in mind like Justin said, DON'T use it on any chrome parts UNLESS you don't want them chrome anymore! -
Question...
highway replied to Johnny Racer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
If you are talking about the black and yellow piece on the front bumper, that is not a winch. If you watch the show, you would know that is a bumper they use for using that truck not only as a power unit towing trailers, but also as a power unit used for PUSHING heavy hauls. If you watch and pay attention to the show, you will see the same rubber bumper on the front of Lisa Kelly's truck, since she not only hauled a heavy haul this season, but was a push truck at least three times in the past two seasons. As for the engine heater, that's nothing special on a diesel. My Ford F-350 has one, and it never sees temps anywhere near that cold! -

Thanks for the info Tim. -
I'm doing better, things are finally improving slightly here, I'm starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel! Anyway, back on topic, I'll definitely be watching this and hoping it will jog someone's memory. I have plans to try and get some more of these in the future and the 300 tire would be great for a few of my wild ideas!

Question...
highway replied to Johnny Racer's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I'm guessing you mean the strange looking one on C-1576? I don't know, but it could be an extra inlet since the heavy haulers would need more air to breathe. That's the first time I've ever seen an air cleaner set up like that. Any help Tim?? -
This should prove to be interesting. I have a feeling once the DOH faithful find this, it may go down just like Atlanta, in flames!!
-
You must have missed this edit Josh! As long as it is not a completely finished build, you can enter it. The DOT legal rule DOES still apply though.

Like this car, for example?

No, there are no secrets here!! Post as many in progress pics as you want!

Thanks Tim, I always forget what the model numbers of those are! Here are a couple pics I found, too. I think this is the wide front T800. And of course the W900. I found a few other oddballs of the Carlile fleet, too! Freightliner Classic Western Star Kenworth T600 And for Tim, even a Peterbilt!! -
No it's not, we have a parking space waiting for ya!

The ones like Lisa Kelly drives are W900Ls, and Porky at P&P Resin Works has a couple different items that would work for those trucks. http://www.ppvintagekits.com/index.html As for decals, check out Modeltruckin.com, Jerry responded to requests from a few of us here and has decals for the Carlile trucks, and even includes the number for Lisa's truck. http://modeltruckin.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_10_19&products_id=360 You can even get the blue paint from Scalefinishes! -
Truck build-off
highway replied to BigBad's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I don't think it is really a good idea, I had seen someone else try one of these "Budget" builds and with a short time limit, and it failed miserably, only the ones with the idea built anything, and I think of the three with the idea, only one of them actually finished. In my personal opinion, strict restrictions are the best way to make a communtiy build idea fail. Also, I already have a common themed community build for trucks going on here on this forum. If you would like to join up, feel free to bring your truck over to the MCM Truckstop and park for a while! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=37529 -
Don'tcha just hate it when.............
highway replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Also along those lines is one that I run into many times, a build that you just think no one else could ever dream up, then the next month you open a magazine and see your idea staring you in the face in the contest coverage! What scares me with this is that there are people out there as crazy as I am!! -
Wiring and plumbing, etc., on firewall

I've never tried that Skip, but that sure does sound like something that would be a good idea! I might just have to do some experimenting. -
Dropping parts
highway replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Andy, I found this tip helpful after the "Carpet Monster" ate a marker light for my Ford truck project. Go to Walmart and get a dust buster and keep it by your desk. Then if you drop a part and don't want to spend 2 hours on your hands and knees searching for it, just fire up the dust buster and 9 times out of 10 you'll find your part. Just remember to look through the stuff the dust buster picked up BEFORE you empty it!! The one I picked at was a Red Devil rechargable for less than $20. As a side note, the 1 in 10 part I didn't find was that darn marker light! -
