Truck kits!!
Wagoneer81 replied to tuffone20's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
The only thing that I would like to add to this thread is that one can ever have too many kits, too many projects or too many ideas. Keep on building, keep on collecting and keep on keepin' on!!! -
Sports team = Which car
Wagoneer81 replied to justin2020's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

Ebay Find of the Century!!!.....not.

Now that's funny!!! I needed a good laugh! What gets me is that he lists it for that price and still has the gall to charge $9.99 shipping... -
The Moebius Lonestar
Wagoneer81 replied to Art Anderson's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Dave, welcome aboard! You bring good news with you, that's always a plus! I've been excited about this model since I heard about it earlier this year. I usually don't get this wound up over new releases, I like seeing them but this one has me stoked! It's a fine looking truck and the test shots show that it will be a great looking kit. I'm really looking forward to adding a couple of these to my collection. -

Harry, your proposed layout looks good, I'd run with it! -
The Moebius Lonestar

Yeah, I've thought about the display issues... I can still dream, can't I??? I see your point, but I also see the other side of the coin with Lindberg releasing a 1/72 scale WWII Japanese sub that scales out to roughly 56". Also, Revell has released a Type VIIc U-boat that is 36" long and a Gato Class sub that is 52" long, both in 1/72 scale. I built the VIIc for a friend (Who displays it on his fireplace mantle) and have the Gato on display in my living room with several 1/72 scale torpedo boats. How large of a "small but dedicated minority" do those kits attract? By no means am I disagreeing with you, I'm just pointing out that I see a little hope here because a 26" trailer and an overall 34-38" tractor-trailer combo would be smaller than some of the kits currently on the market. If size is the primary deciding factor... of course, I'll concede the point that a submarine can make a more exciting display subject than a semi trailer, to some people ... My only criticism of this hobby, and it is a very minor one, is that nobody has tooled up a MODERN dry-goods trailer. We have a plethora of older 40' offerings, flatbeds, vans, tankers, livestock trailers, etc... but if someone wants a 53'-102", they have to kitbash or scratchbuild, which right now is what I'm doing. I may be in the minority here, but having room to display, for me is not an issue. True, I'm not going to hold my breath or get my knickers in a knot if one is not forthcoming, but I can dream... -
The Moebius Lonestar

First, let me repeat that I am tickled pink and jumping up and down with glee about the prospect of a truly modern tractor in 1 24/25 scale. It's been a long time coming. The only thing that I want to add to this conversation is to expand on Highway's excellent dissertation on Prototype trailer dimensions by saying that a great follow-on model for the Lonestar would be a 53' x 102" wide van trailer, Great Dane, Freuhauf, Wabash National, any manufacturer. When I drove freight in '06 and'07, our company didn't have anything smaller than 53'-102", most companies wouldn't even talk to us about moving their stuff with a smaller trailer. 90-95% of what's on the road today is 53-102. When I was an Show Driver for the Gaither Vocal Band, I hauled concert lighting equipment in a 53'-102" dropdeck van. So a modern 53' footer would be an excellent addition to this excellent modern truck. Moebius, just a suggestion... You'd sell a boatload of them! I know I'd buy an entire case, myself. -
Thanks, Harry! I just drooled on myself again...That's twice today! Ok, where'd I put that other clean shirt... Seriously, very nice ride! The new Mustang is the one thing that Ford has gotten right in recent years. My sister owns a Dark-red droptop that, even for a V-6 is a great little car to tool around in. I'd love to get my grubby paws on a V-8, even if just for a little while... Just long enough for the Sheriff to ask me; "You have any idea how fast you were going?"

Absolutely Amazing! Those old cabovers look massively intimidating when they're done right and yours, is done right! If that combo was an actual 1:1 rig, I'd have no issues whatsoever about buckling in and running the wheels off of it coast to coast. Well Done!!! What driveline did you build? Something mean and nasty, I'm to assume? Just curious, although I'm just a modelbuilder, I'm still a gear-head at heart...

Wagoneer81 replied to Art Anderson's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
...and don't forget the drooling... I had to change my shirt after reading this post. Well, at least I kept it off the keyboard. I am really looking forward to the Lonestar's release. Yes, an all new tractor kit HAS been a long time coming and I don't think that Moebius could have picked a better subject! -
Sorry, the Buick boys will need to share... you forgot about the venerable old 430 Lincoln V-8! We members of the Ford Family are liable to pop up anywhere...
-
OK, now I am officially impressed!!! Wow, the model maker they interviewed said they made the car entirely from Perspex. We know it on this side of the pond as Plexiglass. That was very impressive and I hope the car was saved and preserved after the filming was completed. Thanks for sharing that, it made my day!

Want to let you know

Jody, my thoughts and prayers go with you, my friend. Don't know what's up but I can tell you to stay strong, it will get better! -
Tell me about your spray booth please...
Wagoneer81 replied to Yekoms's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Home built, spent about $20.00. I had the paneling and 1x2's in the garage, lighting is a 24" flourescent and it takes a 12"x20" furnace filter. My nephew gave me the 4" Squirrelcage blower. Yes, the motor is isolated from the airflow. I spent most of the money on the ducting, wiring and dryer vent that's outside. It's 42"x20"x20". I built it large because I still build 1/350 and larger warships... still not large enough for a 1/72 Revell Gato Class Sub (as told by the overspray on the wall ). The tank underneath will be my airsupply...as soon as I get around to setting it up with the proper fittings. -
Real or Model #138 FINISHED!
Wagoneer81 replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I'm going to say that it's a model, large scale and very, VERY well done. Something about the tires looks a bit off. Let's see if I can go 3 for 3 here... -
Now, that is just sick! I need to get one of these! Is it me, or is the Desert Fox looking a little 'under the weather'??? "It's just a flesh wound..." I love it! Great job!

WWII nostaligia
Wagoneer81 replied to wgflatliner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bergen-Belsen was a WWII Concentration Camp that was located in Northern Germany. No, bringing her back to working order would definitely NOT be a good idea... I do see your point, Junkman. The Death-Camps are one of, if not the darkest period in human history. Understand me here, The only reason I would have like to have seen the Enola Gay fly again would be for the purpose of seeing an Old Warbird in the air once again. It was almost done with the Kee Bird, in Greenland several years ago but that ended badly... You're right Harry, for better or worse, it is what it is... -
Fox Chassis (Ford) community build anyone?
Wagoneer81 replied to whale392's topic in Community Builds
YES! Just want to let y'all know that I just won an unbuilt '87 T-Bird Turbo-Coupe on eBay so, I'll be able to start on this one after I finish the '57 Suburban. I'll throw the 4-banger in the parts box, transplant a 5.0 or 5.8, give it a 5-lug 4-wheel disk conversion and go from there... Basically, turn it into what the Thunderbird should have been to begin with... I'll start a thread on it when I have something to show. -

Yes, my Ogrish, Sasquatch-esque good looks have to agree with you there. Plus you get candy too... kinda makes up for being made a fool ... I would have liked to have seen this for real, especially since I'm only 1 1/2 hours from Indianapolis International Airport but I could see the logistical and security nightmare in the making. Harry, a better question would be, "How many Japanese folks would like to see her crash and burn?" Hence, the security nightmare. She's really better off in her hangar, I think. -
SOFTWARE PROBLEM!!!
Wagoneer81 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At least now I know I'm not losing my marbles... That is a constant worry these days... I have faith that it'll be ok. -
Looks real enough that I can see myself busting my can on that sheet of ice that they're calling a road... I worked in the utility field for 10 years, both buried and aerial and spent many nights and weekends on storm damage repair. Carl nailed the conditions quite well with this one... gave me a shiver when I saw it...

That little feller's just plain SICK!!! I love it! I'm green with envy!!! Truly a very nice build, my friend!
