Revell W900 WIP
Wagoneer81 replied to Wagoneer81's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ok, for the sake of my sanity, I've done a little more on this. I mentioned earlier that I was smoothing the sides of the trailer to make the decal placement easier... I'm not sure what would have been more difficult, decaling over the ribs with those HUGE mural decals or smoothing the trailer... Anyhow... Trailer box assembled and drying... Cab and sleeper painted and mocked up with trailer... I scratchbuilt the reefer unit. It's a fairly good copy of the one on the actual trailer... After the paint cured a few days, a little orange peel became noticable... I may wet sand and apply a few more coats before decaling. I want this to be my best paintjob. The next update will be posted from my new home, hopefully a week or two from now. I am beginning the process of moving some things out to my sisters (four miles from here) and the rest goes in storage. I have a corner of her two car garage and part of the workbench reserved for my machine tools and spray booth and a new desk for building in my new bedroom so this project and others will continue. More soon! -
I've played some RPG's in my time... This brings back a few memories! I do like the looks of the ships and vessels of the Warhammer universe. Anxious to see this one finished...

Drago, I am impressed! I've worked with resin before and modifying it can be difficult. You are an artist! I'll be watching this build closely!

The Moebius Lonestar
Wagoneer81 replied to Art Anderson's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thank you, Art! That has to be the most informative article I've ever read concerning the Modeling Industry and Global Economics and how they relate to one another. I hope I don't sound like a sycophant when I say that this was very enlightening and that Moebius is lucky to have someone of your caliber and experience working with them. I see good things coming from them...More than just a Hudson and a big, wacking International ... I hope you don't mind, I copied your dissertation to a Word Processor Document to save for posterity sake (further study) and to share with others as this topic has come up before and I've been unable to explain it properly. I added a note as to where it was copied from and who the original author was... -
Dave, You are insane!!! And that, my friend, IS a compliment! I see some top notch high quality masterpieces here. I am in awe of your work! My first though, following the thread, after seeing the AA/FA car was, "Now you owe him five shirts...".

Good looking ride! To answer your question, I think a few well placed contingency/sponsor decals would look ok.

This is looking great, John. Phenominal, breathtaking detail!!!

'53 Ford Rat Wrecker Rig
Wagoneer81 replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Man, that is one ugly truck!!! I LOVE IT, that thing is awesome!!! Very well done and very inspiring. I especially like the "plated" interior. Thanks for sharing this and the build pictures. -
I always start with the engine. While I'm waiting for glue or paint to cure between steps, I'll start cleaning up the body and then go from there. Whatever seems to be the easiest assembly sequence is what I generally go with.

Real name concerns
Wagoneer81 replied to trogdor's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hello, Everybody. I usually don't get wrapped up in things unrelated to modeling here but feel that I need to finally make a couple of observations on this matter... 1. I'm not afraid to post my name. If someone is deranged enough to go through all the trouble of sifting me from all the other Chris Eddy's in this state for the intent of doing me physical harm, let him try. I'll deal with him or her, plain and simple. If a person is that afraid to post their first and last name on their profile, I do feel sorry for them for thinking they have to be afraid of their own shadow. It's not like Gregg is asking for Social Security number, Drivers License number and Mothers maiden name or anything of that caliber. It's your name, you're supposed to use it, that's why it was given to you at birth, that's what being part of society requires... Society... Social... Social Networking... being a Social Person... get it??? Anyone??? If you are afraid to tell someone your own name, go to the nearest Mental Health Clinic and make an appointment, please. I'm not being mean or cruel... You're not crazy, you just have a social phobia that will only get worse with time 2. It's Gregg's board. If the big fish says you need to follow these rules to swim in his pond, then FOLLOW THEM!!! I've seen new boards shut down because the rules were not enforced and a few low-life sociopaths ruined the experience for everyone else. Without rules, anarchy would rule and this would no longer be the best Modeling Forum on the Web. 3. In the grand scheme of things, this really is much ado about nothing. This is a MODEL BUILDING SITE. We're not trying to cure Cancer or save the rainforests here, folks. By no means am I degrading this site as it and the magazine are a great big part of Gregg's life and efforts and I truly appreciate it being made available to us. It is a wonderful modeling tool that leaves me wondering how I got along without it. But, fellas, when you are waiting for the phonecall telling you that your grandmother in Ohio has died... when you are wondering if your best friend will live out the day down in St Vincent ICU or you'll be getting that call as well... when you are losing your home and moving in with your sister because you can't work, much less walk some days because of illness and injury and The Disability Office is giving you the old Red Tape Runaround... when you're wondering if you will live or whether your illness will severely shorten your life as well... in the end, it's just a few letters on a screen and shouldn't even be on your radar. I'd love to live a carefree existence where this and other petty bickering was something to get upset about but I don't live that kind of life. The above "when"s are what I am really dealing with right now so do what you want. Complain about favoritism, complain about all the little piddly things you see wrong with your world. Go ahead and stick your finger in the mousetrap and complain with suprise when it slams shut on you. That's what Gregg's test thread has become... a mousetrap. Ok, here endeth the rant... Sincerely yours, Christopher Eddy Anderson, IN -

Small update: As happens so often, Life rears it's ugly head once again. I am still making slow progress on this build but will be moving to a new location over the next few weeks and have been busy preparing for that. I will be finishing this at the new place. The trailer is beginning to take shape, the sleeper is ready for paint and then decaling can begin. On top of having to move, my Grandmother, who is 92, is in her final days, I'm expecting that phone call anytime... and a longtime friend who has been as close as a brother to me for many years is in ICU in Indianapolis and we've been told to "prepare for the worst" as he may not pull through. Sooo.... can you say,"Back Burner"? Hopefully some good news soon... -

Jerry, your decals are top-notch. Regardless of whether or not name badges or nameplates will be included on the sheet, I'll still be buying from you! Keep up the great work! -
Let me add a belated Welcome Back!!! From what I've read and seen so far, you are off to a great start. Keep in touch, don't be afraid to ask questions and, by all means, have fun! You've a pretty nice work area there, small but well thought out and arranged.

Mine arrived today and a Paypal payment went right out! If you've thought about getting one of these and haven't, they're a great looking body, straight, symetrical, Peter is a fine craftsman! I got one and I think I need two more, just because... -EDIT->> And you have another email. I will gladly pay for any increase in postage for multiple bodies, these little gems are well worth the price!

Just so long as it isn't "If you can read this, flip me back over"... everything will be just fine... -

Yeah, watch that first step, driver... It's a doozy! I've heard that Full Size Jeep owners are odd birds and a bit off balance and do things like this for fun... I've heard that, mind you... -
I'm glad that this one was resurrected, having joined in this madness only a few monthe back, I hadn't gone far enough back to find this one. This is one neat rod. What a concept, I love that engine! well done!

Shining like a new penny, isn't it? The paint is Duplicolor Basic Black (Couldn't find Black Coffee) acrylic enamel and that paint job was less than an hour old when I took the picture. The hood looks a little like charcoal gray in the picture but trust me, it's black. My camera has a tendency to color-shift a little. I've been painting with rattle cans since I was a kid... I'm really pleased with how this turned out. Dennis, Thanks for posting a little inspiration there in your avatar! -
I believe I have seen the '53 Country Squire. I say "believe" because I can't imagine me seeing a Country Squire body and NOT picking it up... I do have his '56 Ford Sedan Delivery, '49 Mercury cabover and '55-'57 Chevy Suburban bodies. They are well worth the money! I'm not sure how I'm going to finish the SD but the Merc cabover is going in front of a Racers Wedge body and will haul a '49 Merc Salt Flat Racer.

Small update, body parts fresh from the paint booth! I started painting the sleeper too but found a couple of spots that looked really bad and decided it needed more work. -
This is a fascinating thread. I've looked at this kit before and this thread has answered most of the questions I had about it. Even with this kits issues, I still think I'll get a hold of one when the opportunity presents itself... Keep up the good work!!! ---One little trick I found when dealing with chrome; if you need it to look like polished aluminum, hit it with a couple of light coats of Testors dullcoat. This works really well on the 1/25 scale stuff I'm used to working with.

That would be nice but would put us over budget. Like I said, It won't be an exact replica. Once the truck is under the trailer and in its display case, the suspension won't be that noticable. I discussed this with the guy I'm building it for and he agrees. (I will however, make that correction on the one I build for myself. ) Clay, I was unaware that the color was as you say... However much research a person does, something always gets overlooked, doesn't it? As for the interiior, every interior shot I've seen, the leather/vinyl was a dark brown with the beige roof. I'm not sure if that's what KW considered "Black Splendor"? I do appreciate your bringing this up but I don't think I can find "Black Coffee" in rattlecan which is what I'm limited to right now... I shop around and see what I can find. Thanks for the input, guys!
