It sounds like you are using the Testor's paint that come in little square bottles? That stuff will work but you will eventually want to get something better. Since it is enamel you will need paint thinner to clean the brushes, you can get a quart at a hardware store for a couple dollars and that will last you a long time. Just pour it into a small jar with a lid baby food jars work great, when it gets too dirty just clean out the jar and add some fresh thinner. Personally I like the Testor's Model Master Acryl, it is an acrylic paint that you can clean up with water, it also dries much faster than enamel paints. Model Master also has a line of enamel paints so you have to be careful when you buy paint that you have the acrylic, the only difference is a small Acryl across the label on the acrylic paint so its easy to grab the wrong stuff. You will probably need to go to a real hobby shop to get this, it usually isn't in craft stores or Walmarts and such. Most of the better quality paints are in slightly larger bottles (3/4oz vs 1/2oz) an cost more, usually about $3 a bottle so getting started with a decent selection of paint is a bit of an investment, but it will last you sometime. If you have a Michaels craft store nearby they have sales on brushes quite often, 25-50% off and they have a large selection to choose from including some decent inexpensive brush sets. Good luck, and try not to get frustrated, worst case you can always strip the paint and try again.

Well I ended up doing some research online and I think I found out why I was having a hard time finding a mask. A full face supplied air mask is recommended for urethane paints, but OSHA only requires a filter mask. The mask I got says its for painting except for urethane paints, but it is the cartridge recommended by the site I found the info on. My guess is the filter manufacturers are covering themselves by not including urethane paints on the label. $32 at home depot, also good for pesticides, formaldyhyde, ammonia and asbestos, guess I need some new hobbies so I can get the most from the mask.

Just looking to see if anybody here has experience casting white metal parts, the kind you often find included with resin kits. If there is I am curious about how its done, similarities / differences from resin and how much new stuff I'd have to get to start doing it. It seems like white metal is better suited to long thin parts, so I'm wondering if it is a realistic option for some parts I'd like to do. Any advice, links to tutorials, suppliers etc welcome. Thanks, and I checked with my resin supplier, a respirator for urethane paints is more than enough for resin. Now I just need to find an auto paint supply.

1941 Chevrolet pickup, being sold for the price the owner paid for it in 1941.

Before I moved I had an outdoor work area for resin casting and painting so I wasn't that worried about the fumes since I had great air flow. Since I have moved I haven't done any casting but I now have an area set up in my garage and plan to get started up again. Since my new work area is in the garage ventilation will not be as good so I want a respirator mask. I looked at a couple for spray paint but all say not for use with urethane paints. Since resin is a polyurethane product I'm thinking these masks may not be appropriate for resin either. Also I primarily use spray paint but I do have some automotive paint (only way I could get US Forest Service Green), it is a two part paint that requires a hardener, is this a urethane paint or do some non-urethane paints require harderner? So what should I be looking for, I know I need a cartridge style respirator but not sure if one for spray paint is adequate for resin and since I can't find one for urethane paints at a hardware store do I have to go to a paint shop or would a large hardware store like Home Depot probably carry one? Thanks for the link to that site, the IMSA Cobra has a similar hood graphic but its the wrong color. Who knows, that was probably 30 years ago, I can probably make the decals in the first post work. Really I've just always been amused by the uber testosterone Smokey & the Bandit Transam look on what was essentially a glorified Pinto, I don't need to make an exact duplicate, just something to have some fun with. Just got my order from Mill City Replicas, a '38 Ford COE, '41 Ford COE and a '53 Ford C600. I've been impatiently waiting but they look nice so it was worth the wait.

When I was a kid 8-9-10? I remember going to a fair and they had this Mustang II "Cobra" it was all black with green accents and a big Cobra on the hood. Looking back it was really tacky but I thought it was the coolest car. Does anyone know if there is a decal set for that? If so which of the re-released Mustang II's would you recommend.

I kind of like it up front, looks cool with the cylinder heads sticking out. In the back would be neat too but seems like it would change the effect into more of a salt flat racer than a rat rod.

Thanks for the info on Galaxie, it doesn't surprise me that it is a one man operation, the stuff is just so nice and the subjects covered are kind of all over the place. It would be a shame to see the Chevy go away, it is simply one of the nicest kits I've ever built. I guess I better save up my lunch money and buy a couple more while I still can. Brewster. You jammed a Sherman tank engine under the hood? Hot rods, rat rods etc really are not my thing but I do enjoy watching people build them, no rules at all. Its also nice to see the people behind the magazine actually build something now and then.

If they are the wheels I think they are, then you can find them in the Italeri Opel Blitz kits. The fire truck (tanker) was recently re-released.

Evergreen has the clear plastic in several thicknesses, I think the thinest I have is 0.05" (really thin and pliable). Plastruct, Midwest and Superstyrene are other brand names of styrene sheet and strip supplies. Most model railroad shops will have one or more of these brands.

That's pretty much how I've been looking at Johan, kind of like a resin caster, got to get the kits when you can. That would be great if Lindberg and Johan could work out something like the Model King has with the Revell and AMT kits.

That is looking nice, I've passed on the kit a couple of times because its a low rider. I'll be watching to see how much work a conversion will be. Good choice on keeping the Galaxie kit as it was meant to be, that is a great kit, I just wish Galaxie would bring out something new.
