  1. I posted a message over in the truck section hoping to get some more knowledgeable truck modelers to add to this. One suggestion was adding after market engines and possibly doing something similar for other components like transmissions, axles etc.
  2. Missed one Ford 534SD 8.8L (534 cid) V-8 Gasoline engine
  3. Up in the tips, tricks & ideas section a database of kit engines is being made up. I posted the truck motors I know of, perhaps some of you could have a look to correct any inaccuracies in specs (I used what I could find off google to fill in the displacement etc). I know there are several kit engines missing because some of the kits I have don't say what the motor is. I have AMT fairly well covered since someone was kind enough to pass along a list someone made up of them, but Revell, Italeri etc are largely unaccounted for. Here is the post http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forum/viewtopi...asc&start=0 I could find only a little data for the Volvo engines and nothing on the Macks or the IHC V-800. Thanks
  4. This is starting to look good, one thing I noticed you mixed up the CAT 3406 and Cummins NHC250, everything is right until the notes section, the 3406 is a CAT the NHC250 is a Cummins. Caterpillar 3208 10.4L (636 cid) V-8 3406 15.8L (964 cid) I-6 Cummins NHC 250 14.0L (855 cid) I-6 NTA 370 14.0L (855 cid) I-6 Turbo NTC 350 14.0L (855 cid) I-6 Turbo V-903 14.8L (903 cid) V-8 N-14 14.0L (855 cid) I-6 Turbo Detroit Diesel Series 60 11.1L (677 cid) I-6 Turbo 8V71 9.3L (568 cid) V-8 (2 stroke) 8V71T 9.3L (568 cid) V-8 Turbo (2-stroke) 12V71T 13.9L (850 cid) V-12 Turbo (2-stroke) 16V71 18.6L (1132 cid) V-16 (2-stroke) 8V92 8.6L (522 cid) V8 (2-stroke) Volvo N10 10.0L (610 cid) Turbo N-12 12.0L (732 cid) Turbo Thats what I could find online. I could not find anything on the Int. V-800 but I'm 99% sure is is a gas motor, nothing on the Macks and could not find the configuration, # cyl on the Volvos. I'll post a link to this thread in the truck section to see if someone that really knows their truck engines (like Dieseldoc) will help out with the missing data and maybe more kit engines.

  6. No but if you email him at the address Trailer Mechanic posted he will send you a list of what he has. He has a nice selection to choose from, mostly medium and heavy duty trucks but also a few odds and ends.
  7. I was recently thinking about the same kind of thing. Somewhere I have a list of the big truck motors from many of the big rig kits, I found someplace online last year. I'll try to find it and post the info here for whoever volunteers to compile this thing. Great idea
  8. Thats what I meant about being marginally familiar with diesels, if its been in a truck I drove I usually know a little about it, but that Bigcam you mentioned is nearly twice the size of the one in my engine (DT530E). While I consider the trucks I drive as large I occasionally realize their not so big, particularly compared to most of the trucks that are available in a kit. This was a few years back, bringing the new engine home from Boise. It was at this point that I realized its just a tonka toy compared to a semi I guess thats why its called a medium duty. I appreciate the help.
  9. Thanks, this isn't a current project, I just got the conversion recently and am doing some planning ahead. I didn't know the Bigcam was the actual name, I thought it was a generic term like refering to a Chevy 350 as a small block or 454 as a big block.
  10. Thanks for the help, it gives me a place to start. Yes, I posted this a couple of days ago on a truck yahoo group but only had the one reply. I also realized I had listed it as an LNT instead of an LTS and since I don't know how to get a pic to show up there I figured I'd give it a try here. What is a big cam engine? Cummins, CAT, DD ??? I'm marginally familiar with big diesels unless it happens to be one I've driven and thats a fairly short list. Thanks for the head up about the reissue, how is that kit considering its a snap kit?
  11. There is also a Dannon Yogurt promo I occasionally see on ebay. I've had good service from uptown and the quality of the items I have ordered was very good. Unfortunately he is often out of stock, I've been trying to get that stepvan for awhile now along with the two seagraves but no luck so far.
  12. I got an LTS9000 conversion for the AMT Ford Louisville kit, I am assuming the longer hood is for a larger engine. Does anyone know what engines I could use in this? I'm looking for what was available as well as considerations for donor kits. This is the truck I'm talking about although it is a few years newer than the one in the conversion. http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/truc...ord_lts9000.jpg Thanks
  13. The AMT Ford C600 has similar wheels, they may not be exactly the same but the look very similar. Model Truck and Fire Apparatus used to have a good selection of wheels, AITM should still have them but you will have to email him as the parts are not on his website yet. http://www.aitruckmodels.com/ The wheels on his GMC 9500 look like they might work too. http://www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/ck26gmc9500longnose.html
  14. Along with the hazmat truck, I've been working on Trumpeter's new pumper, actually the hazmat was started to keep this one company in the station. Here is the cab and a Ford Dually that I haven't decided what to do with yet. I was really excited about the interior of this kit so I jumped past the frame and all. I made a few changes to the interior. It had a box for books between the seats that I didn't care for (where the flashlights and radios are now) so I removed it. It also must have been a drivers training rig because both the driver and captain get a shifter anyway I decided that was a good place for a book box, the I shrank down some pics of books for it. The clip board is just a piece of flat styrene and angle styrene, I shrunk down an EMS form for it like I did with the book covers. It also was configured for 8 firefighters, I removed two of the rear seats and put an interior compartment with a roll up door in their place. The other set of rear seats are too low so I raised them. On the rear part of the dog house I put a set of box lights (the orange lights) and some radios in chargers. The box lights were something I had here (from MTFAco?), the radios are built from styrene strip.
  15. Well since you asked, I did some more work on it today, this is only the first coat of paint but its coming along. The holes in the back are windows, I was thinking about actually putting an interior in the back but I'm just going to tint them. With the way I braced the box I decided an interior is just too much work for something that would be hard to see the detail, maybe next time I'll plan on larger windows or a removable top section.
  16. I recently bought some stuff from him, thats the email I had. I went back and found the email where he listed what he has and there is a Mack CH600 listed, that wasn't what I was interested so I didn't notice until you brought it up. I had good service, 3-4 weeks for delivery, not bad for resin casters. The castings were decent, not as nice as Scale Equipment Ltd or Bobby Griffin's castings but very usable with a little bit of work. He has quite a few unusual items like the Jeep FC I bought. Here is the description I got from his listing Mack CH-600 conversion: cab, hood, interior, seats, seat bases, front bumper, grille, headlights, quarter fenders, chrome slam lock door handles, windshield- (donor kit used is any Italeri 1/24 rig kit)- $70.00 Sorry I didn't make the connection earlier.
  17. There are some nice builds in there, I think the yard with the old racers is my favorite though.
  18. This is the AMT Lousville delivery truck, I'm building it as a hazardous materials responce unit converted from an old beverage truck.
  19. Whoops, I was thinking of the Mack MC. Good luck on the CH there don't seem to be many current trucks out there right now.
  20. Model Truck and Fire Apparatus had quite a few Macks, if the CH is the flat nose rather blocky cab I think they had one. The company is now under new ownership as American International Truck Models, the owner has been redoing many of the molds so everything is not up on the site yet but it might be worth checking. I've emailed about a couple of things and have always had a quick reply. http://www.aitruckmodels.com/
  21. Are you sure its an 8V92? I thought it was an 8V71. The older kit is supposed to include a gas turbine engine as well.
  22. There are companies that make decals, chimneyville is one I know of http://www.chimneyvilledecals.com/index.html You can also make your own, if you get a good quality photo of the door seal. The only good "slime green" I have seen people use is actualy automotive paint. You are about as far as I've got so I don't know about the tubing. If you need ideas I've got a website for emergency vehicles, there are a couple of San Francisco ALF's that I want to build from the Trumpeter kit after I've built one OOB. http://www.geocities.com/cnf_e32/index.htm
  23. The only problem I ran into with it was the first time I used it, the paint was coming out under the nozzle making a mess, I know a few others had this same problem. Lately that hasn't happend so maybe it was a problem Krylon fixed. On the dull and shiny I've noticed that more when I use it over primer or another paint. The thing I really like about it is you really have to try and make it run, I've been in a hurry and been impatient several times where I know another paint would have run but the Fusion goes on perfect anyway. I have decided it is more sensitive to cold and humidity though, but I can't prove it, just a theory I'm developing.
  24. Nice job, I love the 41-46 Chevys. I wish Revell would reissue this kit, I have two waiting to be built but I have so many ideas and only 2 kits so they sit until I can make up my mind. I don't even see these on ebay much anymore.
  25. This is coming along great as usual. Are you going to include a full hose bed or just a couple of pre-connects off the back? What are you using for the gold striping? it works well and adds alot to the overall look.
