AMT 64 Galaxie Pro Shop
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank you so much my friends. I am currently looking at the 64 resin hood on Competition Resins website. Decals are in the mail now. Found some Tamiya racing white paint today. bigphoto...is the Starliner chassis basically the same without the lettering? Or is it a chassis I can add an detailed engine to? Thanks again. -
I have the above mentioned kit. It has no engine, except for a plate, or opening hood, and a one piece frame. It also has many many words inscribed on the frame about its features. I know older vintage 64 Galaxies are getting big $$$. I was wondering what was the purpose of this kit. I mean what was it intended for? Was it a dealer promo model? I plan on building a Frank Butler Osburn Trucking nostalgia car, like in the pic. Sorry for the dumb question, but any answers would be much appreciated.

I ordered a set of decals from Mega Hobby since they take Pay Pal. I ordered the Frank Butler Osburn Trucking 64 Galaxie set. Since I clicked on your link I got a great idea on how to built my 64 Galaxie Pro Shop. Just gotta get a tear drop hood scoop now!!! Thanks a bunch!!!

CrewDawg's Tiny Tuner Turbo Tut

Very...very nice!! Alot of talented and skilled model crafters on here!!! -
Painted the bar, and added new padding. Also gave it a try with D M seat belts. Not too bad I guess for a first timer. I'm sure the more I do them the better they will look.

Thanks Bill. There is alot of chrome parts on this engine...so I stripped the carb hat, and the intake manifold, and painted the hat flat silver, and the intake flat aluminum. Would really like to make the carbs look more real, instead of the ugly gold.

Oh I almost forgot. I wanted a roll bar for this car, and since one was not supplied, I made my own. I just bought some DM racing seat belts, and I am waiting for a resin racing automatic shifter, and it just would not look complete without a bar. Took a few pics of the unpainted bar, after trying some homemade padding. The padding was cut from a flexible adhesive fabric Band Aid. I think I will remove it and try something else that looks more realistic though.

Got all the decals on except the "Little Georgia Shaker" because they go over a large body line, and I had to pick up some Micro Sol before doing it. After I get the last two decals on, I will use a decal that is supplied that I am not using to attach to a scrap hood, so I can test the clear coat on it. Took a few pics.

After reading the tips on heating the spray cans in hot water before spraying...Ive done it, and it works very well indeed. I was using enamel at the time. Does this also work with lacquers, and clears also?

Juggling around a 61 Impala, 62 Bel Air, 62 Catalina SD, and a 64 T-Bolt.

Thanks for the reply Bill. I looked online and found some actual pics of the car. It was being auctioned off at Barrett Jackson. The pics had some nice interior views, and some really great all around body shots. Some pieces in the kit, like the air intake differs from the car. I am currently waiting for some resin auto race shifters, and would really like to install a roll bar, or cage, can't seem to find any though...and my scratch skills are not the best. I will post more pics as I get more accomplished. Right now I am working on my 62 Bel Air. That's whats so great about this hobby, besides the model car community on these boards, you can have many projects going, and not get bored. Thanks for the added advice on the clearing of decals. I don't remember the name, but does that decal liquid work better than water?
-
Thanks for the replies guys. I recently built the Dyno Don 61 Impala, and cleared it first, then applied the decals. That's the way I always did it in my younger days, except not using any clear. I was hoping to get the decals to look like it was part of the paint job, and to keep them laying flat on the model. I don't have an air brush as of yet, and I just moved on to trying the Tamiya lacquer spray cans. I will test the clear on them before giving it a final. Thanks for the tips.

Can anybody help me on this??? I wanted to post a few pics today, but could not because my attachments was maxed out at 39. So I went into "manage attachments" and deleted them, problem is my other pics are deleted from my threads now, but the new ones I just posted are there. Any way to post attachments, and not loose the previous ones? Probably something I am overlooking? Thank You....

Got another kit in the works...I can't just do one, gotta keep busy while the paint dries on the others. I would like this T Bolt to resemble Platts car with the Boyds Blue Pearl exterior, and a Champagne interior. I read on here that some Boyds paints would flake, so I shot primer, laid a blue base, then the Boyds Pearl. Looks OK I guess. Went with a Ford Red engine to add some color. My question is should I lay down the decals, then clear, and polish, then do BMF last? Any opinions would be appreciated. Got a few pics here also.

Love the interior detail, and under hood detail. BTW, what did you use for the heater hoses???

Got a bit bored with the 61 as its almost finished. Moved on to the 62, and tried to work steady on it. I wanted to go for a race look, but not Super Stock...kind of like a regular 9-5 guy took his Bel Air to the track on the weekends. I used the air cleaners from another kit, as the supplied velocity stacks would need the hood cut, and I wanted them to be tucked away underneath. Also, I used a bit wider slick from another kit on this 62. I has to grind the axle stubs down on the rear inside rims, and grind the differential on each end as well. Also had to make the metal axle shorter. the only real problem was the exhaust pipes are a bit tight around the rear tire area. Added some homemade tips on the pipes from the inside tube of a Bic ink pen. Will most likely get some thinner tubing as these are a bit thick. Gotta get a new body, as I over did it on the paint, and when I gave it a brake fluid cleanse, the thin cast radiator support, and door pillars got soft and gave away. Did I leave it in the fluid for too long???? I dunno. New one will be in in 3-5 days. Some current pics as it sits right now.

Any info on AMT 63 Impalas
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Charlie. That sounds like a plan. Better running gear!! I overall like the AMT kits, but those 63-64s just have a poor looking suspension IMO. Now I have a 62 Bel Air and a 67 Impala AMT kits, and the suspensions and exhaust look "real". Will look into the Revell kit for sure Thanks again. -
Any info on AMT 63 Impalas
Brutalform replied to Brutalform's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the reply George. It helps alot. I just do not want to get another kit with the lame suspension and/or exhaust system...I noticed the 64 AMT Impala is the same way. Any 63 kits that have the separate chassis/exhaust not cast into it? I saw a Prestige 63 Impala. Is this any different, or is it just like a Pro Shop model, with a closed hood, and less parts? Thanks.... -
Just was wondering if these two kits are made from the same tooling? I have the AMT # 8321, that has most of the suspension and exhaust cast in already, making for some less than desired details. Was not sure about the AMT 2 in 1 kit though.

Oh I forgot ...here is the 62...

Since the 55 Chevy pro street is on hold for a while, I've been working on two other chevys. First is Dyno Dons 61 Impala, and the other one is a red 62 Bel Air 409. The 62 needs alot of details yet, but the 61 should be together in a day or so. Dont laugh at the 61, as it was my first BMF job. Still got to do some touching up on it. The 61...

Thanks Manny...It will get done!! Dave....I just bought the 67 Chevelle on Ebay! I really like it for what it is, I mean I will just build it. Killer car!!! I can still get a 55 bel air down the road, and add the Dencon conversion kit. The kit will not arrive for about 4 weeks anyway. Im glad you mentioned the Chevelle...Thanks.

Yea Romell, I am looking for parts. Been combing Ebay and finding nice wheel sets. Let me know when you want to let the bars go. I am in no hurry.
