  1. Got another kit in the works...I can't just do one, gotta keep busy while the paint dries on the others. I would like this T Bolt to resemble Platts car with the Boyds Blue Pearl exterior, and a Champagne interior. I read on here that some Boyds paints would flake, so I shot primer, laid a blue base, then the Boyds Pearl. Looks OK I guess. Went with a Ford Red engine to add some color. My question is should I lay down the decals, then clear, and polish, then do BMF last? Any opinions would be appreciated. Got a few pics here also.
  2. Love the interior detail, and under hood detail. BTW, what did you use for the heater hoses???
  3. Got a bit bored with the 61 as its almost finished. Moved on to the 62, and tried to work steady on it. I wanted to go for a race look, but not Super Stock...kind of like a regular 9-5 guy took his Bel Air to the track on the weekends. I used the air cleaners from another kit, as the supplied velocity stacks would need the hood cut, and I wanted them to be tucked away underneath. Also, I used a bit wider slick from another kit on this 62. I has to grind the axle stubs down on the rear inside rims, and grind the differential on each end as well. Also had to make the metal axle shorter. the only real problem was the exhaust pipes are a bit tight around the rear tire area. Added some homemade tips on the pipes from the inside tube of a Bic ink pen. Will most likely get some thinner tubing as these are a bit thick. Gotta get a new body, as I over did it on the paint, and when I gave it a brake fluid cleanse, the thin cast radiator support, and door pillars got soft and gave away. Did I leave it in the fluid for too long???? I dunno. New one will be in in 3-5 days. Some current pics as it sits right now.
  4. Thanks Charlie. That sounds like a plan. Better running gear!! I overall like the AMT kits, but those 63-64s just have a poor looking suspension IMO. Now I have a 62 Bel Air and a 67 Impala AMT kits, and the suspensions and exhaust look "real". Will look into the Revell kit for sure Thanks again.
  5. Thanks for the reply George. It helps alot. I just do not want to get another kit with the lame suspension and/or exhaust system...I noticed the 64 AMT Impala is the same way. Any 63 kits that have the separate chassis/exhaust not cast into it? I saw a Prestige 63 Impala. Is this any different, or is it just like a Pro Shop model, with a closed hood, and less parts? Thanks....
  6. Just was wondering if these two kits are made from the same tooling? I have the AMT # 8321, that has most of the suspension and exhaust cast in already, making for some less than desired details. Was not sure about the AMT 2 in 1 kit though.
  7. Oh I forgot ...here is the 62...
  8. Since the 55 Chevy pro street is on hold for a while, I've been working on two other chevys. First is Dyno Dons 61 Impala, and the other one is a red 62 Bel Air 409. The 62 needs alot of details yet, but the 61 should be together in a day or so. Dont laugh at the 61, as it was my first BMF job. Still got to do some touching up on it. The 61...
  9. Thanks Manny...It will get done!! Dave....I just bought the 67 Chevelle on Ebay! I really like it for what it is, I mean I will just build it. Killer car!!! I can still get a 55 bel air down the road, and add the Dencon conversion kit. The kit will not arrive for about 4 weeks anyway. Im glad you mentioned the Chevelle...Thanks.
  10. Yea Romell, I am looking for parts. Been combing Ebay and finding nice wheel sets. Let me know when you want to let the bars go. I am in no hurry.
  11. Thanks for the advice Dave. I will look into the revell kit. I do have a back half conversion coming along with the rear and wheelie bars from Matt at Dencon. Also picked up some nice and deep Centerline Drag rims on Ebay. Maybe i will continue the pro street 55 after I get Dyno Dons 61 Impala, and a 62 Bel air 409 done, or almost done. The 55 you had mentioned does seem like the way to go..but with the conversion kit I have coming.
  12. Yea...I hear ya! I will NEVER buy one of those again. My 55 project is on the back burner for a while now. After I sanded, trial fitted the parts of the 427, just as you said it looks worse. I tossed it out. Gotta get another 55 body too, after cutting stuff from it, the engine was never going to look right in it. Big waste of money IMO. Gonna move on to a 62 Bel Air 409 until I get another engine, to do a blue and white pro street 55.
  13. I've got a new opinion about the Gibson engines. The first engine I built was not TOO bad, but it is just too big. To make it fit is one thing, but now there is no room for a drivers racing seat because of all the room the trans takes up. Forget about putting in a passenger seat. So I figured I would give another one a try, and bought the ZL-1 427. A lot better in size, but there is no reason they should be cast in so many parts, that everything looks so mismatched. The engine could have been made with 10 parts, than 25!!! I've taken my time, but nothing lines up right. In order to get the hi rise manifold to be straight, you have to position the heads to a point where the cylinder bores are exposed. I'm sorry I wasted my money on another engine.
  14. No you are right. I remember Shaw having it before Christian.
  15. Yea I remember that. They called him "Burn em up Birney" when he did half track burnouts with the 55. I remember all those cars, even Tony Christian's red 57. Never liked Tonys attitude though. I saw an article in Super Chevy on Dyers 62.
  16. Thanks. I found a pic of Monty Birneys 55. This is the way it might go since the engine is HUGE! This is the right color I originally wanted, just like Dyers 55.
  17. Ordered the back half conversion, racing seats and rear suspension from Matt at Dencon resins. Did a bit of cutting on the chassis, interior, and cowl of the 55, to get the engine down where it should sit. I have to get it back enough for the radiator to fit in.
  18. Thanks Jon...like I said, it was my very first BMF job. Years ago, I used to just mask and paint trim, or if I was feeling steady, do it free hand, which usually meant Id be respraying the project all over again. I will take your advice next time, and just lightly touch the blade on it. I think I was using more pressure than I should have on it. I think I am going to re-clear the roof of the car, as I cant seem to get it shined up where the BMF was. That 61 Impala is ready to go together soon. Working on a 55 pro street Chevy now. Nice to do other projects while the paint is drying on the current one. Geez was your mother in law and mine twins???? LOL!! This site is very, very, cool!!!
  19. Looks fantastic Matt!! I looked at your site, and will get all the PayPal info together tomorrow, as its almost 2:00 am now.
  20. Oh BTW, I got the rims in the mail today from M.A.D. I think I will use the Weld style instead of the Centerlines for this. I really gotta get an airbrush. I really like the Alclad colors that Romell used in his build. I really do not think I can get the right color for the wheels using a spray bomb.
  21. Ive been following your Nova build Romell....thats where I got the idea of ordering a Gibson Engine. BTW, you are a true artist, in every sense of the word. Its the 737 Pro mod engine. Earlier today I got it to sit about right in the chassis. Now its time to mod the firewall, and floor hump. Gonna hold off on the back halving until Matt gets the resin molds right, and I'll get the tubs, wheelie bars, rear etc from him. I think the engines are good, Dave, just like anything else, if you take the time to build it, it will be well worth it.
  22. Thanks for the advice everyone!!! Much appreciated!!!
  23. Sorry...forgot to mention, that the car is coated with Testors Glosscoat.
  24. Two things are evident in these pics. First off, I stink at BMF!! Actually this is my first ever BMF job, so its not too horrifying. And second, it might be hard to tell, but, the BMF left some goo on the roof top. I tried a dab of GOO Gone with a Q Tip, but it did not really help. Any ideas to a noob??? Thanks much.
  25. Yea Mike I agree 100%. After I get some of the junk cut away, it will go down more, and not look too bad ...I hope. It is a 737 Thumper Gibson engine, so it being a bit large is ok I guess. Now, if it were a SBC, then I think it would look silly sitting in there. Thanks Kyle. Didn't Steve Carrier own that yellow Camaro? Its been a while since I watched NMCA cars. I just remember that awesome 55 Rick drove, and wrecked while racing Annette Summer. I think it will be a fun build.
