They will probably get it ready for the next race. I've been posting the stories of the Monte's Motors crew on the Diorama section of the board. There was just a new meeting this morning.

The Monte's Motors garage crew / Jackson's visit

There's been a meeting called in the office. WHO PUT THE SECURITY CAMERA IN THE REST ROOM !! -
To start this project out you will need to made a trip to the hardware store. I picked up a 3/4" thin wall plastic water pipe that was 6' long for only a $1. Then using a hacksaw or whatever cutoff device you choose, cut a length of pipe 1 1/2" plus 1/16" for smoothing the edges. You also need Evergreen strips, .040 half round and Super glue. I beleive the Evergreen strips were under $5 and one package will do 4 to 5 barrels. Dave helps out showing how to put the strips around the edge. Use a marker and mark around the barrels to put on the 2 center strips. The measurement for the 2 center strips is 1/2" from each end. Now you can see the completed strips. Smooth glue as desired. Paint the color of choice. I picked Sublime Green.

2 - Cadillacs : '60 series 75 Limo & '61 Fleetwood
Monte's Motors replied to Monte's Motors's topic in Model Cars
The Limo is Krylon smoke gray over Krylon navy blue. The '61 is Krylon saddle tan. The green is an Ace Hareware house color chart paint. I've found that you can use the oil based paints to use on kits. Just pick the colors like you would for your living room. I beleive the green is warm water shores. -
Looks great! I would says by condition, that's it's still driveable. I see too many weathering job overdone. Yours is great!

Limo is resin. Purchased on ebay from benpackinz. -
Stripped of all it's cop car stuff to resell to the public at auction. The spotlight was the only item still allowed the stay on the car before resale.

'56 Bel-Air that's lowered and shorter tires. Sorry, no pictures of the Ross Gibson 502 yet. Grill chrome was trimmed down and both bumpers raised.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I will always welcome comments and suggestions as that is how we all improve our work. As a 21 year mechanic I've helped to restore a few real cars. Seen lots of ideas for rusted kits. If you do research of real rusted cars, no rusting patterns are really standing out for one car to another. Rusting around chrome edges seems to be the most similar in rusted cars. Being a mechanic by trade I can tell everyone that any resto project we did, we take the car to wash it first before any work was done. Our boss is a real collector and he will not have any big messes on his shop floors. You guys here keep pointing out these details. Just pointing out my real resto projects I've been involved with. Maybe this advice will help you guys on your next project. Thanks again guys

By rear end chrome, do you mean the bumper. It came with the kit. The spear piece in front of the tail lights is molded on the fin and chrome was brushed on useing Alclad. -

Someone said the method is called dry brushing. As you know Alclad is mostly clear liquid. Start by brushing on testors gloss black. I wait 12 to 24 hours before putting on the Alclad. Then very importantly, don't shake the Alclad. That way you can see how much is on your brush. Put the brush clear down into the Alclad chrome settled on the bottom. A glob of Alclad will rise up with the brush. Swipe some of the Alclad off, on the rim of the bottle. Brush on the Alclad with as much care as the black you put on before it. It doesn't take a lot of practice to get the hang of it. It's a lot like a learn as you go deal. When you are ready to wet your brush again, just dip the clear and rub the brush on the edge of the bottle where you wiped it off before. Once you try it a few times, you'll get the hang of it and throw that Bare Metal Foil away. -

2 - '59's Chevy Impala & Pontiac Bonneville
Monte's Motors replied to Monte's Motors's topic in Model Cars
The spots on the roof and hood of both cars would be the reflection of the signs on the wall behind each car. Both cars just shine that much that you could read a newspaper by looking at the paint on the car. -
I love it. Odd is great. Two thumbs up on that one.

Funny you should mention the CanAm Garage. I started on that board and was inspired by that garage and stories. I have invited Jackson for a visit and plan on doing a hotel dio for his visit. Have not heard of his arrival date yet. I started posting here, taking advice from Dave Lindsay. I'm really enjoying the warm welcome I have received. Thanks everyone.
