Testers metal kits model or die cast?
Monte's Motors replied to my66s55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I guess I'm kinda old fashion. My saying is, "Plastic is for model cars and metal is for real cars" -
Jo-Han '66 AMC Marlin : "Forgotten Build"
Monte's Motors replied to Monte's Motors's topic in Community Builds
Got the radiator in the support and on the frame. Suspension too. Good and bad with the casting. Detailed brake caliper on just one rotor . Oh well I will survive. When she's sitten on the shelf, no one will ever know . -
Those Classic Cars.
Monte's Motors replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
'39 Chevy '48 Tucker : Oh what this company could have been. '49 Mercury '54 Buick '55 Chevy : Could be the most noted classic car. '59 Edsel : Always think of this one first. '59 Ford retractable hard top '66 Chevelle '69 Chevelle It's interesting when researching cars for paint schemes, how a person can learn SO MUCH extra about information. Before I started researching my builds I have NO IDEA of the different paint combinations. Now I know of Sport-tone, Spring-tone, Tri-tone, Flo-tone. Now I can tell the difference between a '55 and '56 Pontiac. As well as the difference between a '58 and '59 Mercury. Yes !!! Cars are an awesome artwork -
I'm learning, finally.

Light has been my friend in the seeing area. Picked up a desk light from Wal-mart for $7. Could be the best detail tool I have. -
I'd say I've finished 50% of all my kits. 45 finished and 45 unfinished. I would never steal from a finished kit for another.

Some news re: The Modelhaus
Monte's Motors replied to Brett Barrow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thoughts & prayers go out to Carol. I've been lucky enough to be taken a tour of the business by Don & Carol. As I'm only 32 miles away and picked up orders in person. He has came to our club meeting before (Central Illinois Scale Auto Builders). They are great people. -
Thank You to everyone!

Early Thanksgiving? I'll join in by saying, THANKS!! This is a word with not near enough letters for our meaning. I've been very lucky that my daughter has joined in building with me about 4 years ago. She's 14 now and still interested. This board is the LINK to our modeling bench partners. -
Jo-Han '66 AMC Marlin : "Forgotten Build"
Monte's Motors replied to Monte's Motors's topic in Community Builds
Starting to work on this, I happened to notice the detail in casting. After the base engine is glued up, it's time to start painting. -
OK, collectors get respect too. Here's the other side of the coin. Suppose those collectors only built and never started collecting those kits BY THE DOZENS. Then the hobby might not have made it to it's peek. I would call the peek model production in the mid 1990's. Stores like Wal-mart drop products that won't sell. The lack of modeling interest could be BLAMED on the lack of real cars like the "MUSCLE CAR". With car not being exciting, why would anyone build a kit of it. Maybe we SHOULD THANK the collectors for buying all those extra kits that made the model companys expand their choice to reproduce. Making kits more available will get people excited about the hobby.

Here's the starting point. I hope I can use the factory modeled color as one of a two-tone paint job.

GREAT STUFF !!!

My response may seem more like a rant. Collectors beware. Here's what seems to have happened to the hobby. Collectors began buying up to 10, 20, or have ever many more of the same kits, just for collecting. Collecting or hoarding? Now DON'T go off the deep end yet, til ya hear me out. The collecting that took place gave kit companies the idea that maybe as many as 10 times the number of people were buying model kits. Now the surviving part. People today want kits like the old Jo-Han but they say their not out there. They are in hundreds if not thousands of hoarders closets and may never see what they were meant to be . A MODEL CAR. No that box filled with priceless plastic will probably be just a melted ball after the kind collector passes away. I SAY THIS. Get those kits out there and REVIVE THE HOBBY. How many now have already TURNED AWAY from the hobby just because they can't find the old ones. Thanks to ALL who support this GREAT hobby. Are you one of those "collectors" who keep the hobby alive? We sure hope so. "Build'm don't hide'm"

First off, I want to thank Darin for this great idea for a build. I mainly like to build what never gets built. I will be very excited to join in on this build. Darin, maybe you should start a new thread in the "On the workbench" section. Everyone would post their work there . The demo derby build has worked out well like that. My choice for the "Forgotten kit build" will be. The Jo-Han produced AMC '66 Marlin. Let's have fun guys.

What is your favourite model?
Monte's Motors replied to codie27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Mercury is a '58 Parklane resin from Modelhaus. Do your research on color choices. There are many color placement options from factory production. The pink and black is a "flo-tone" color placement option. Here's link to more pictures of the '58 Edsel. Do your research on anything and you will find something exciting to build. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=34113&st=0&p=346270&fromsearch=1&#entry346270 -
What is your favourite model?
Monte's Motors replied to codie27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's what I feel to be my favorite builds of mine. Hope these help ya my friend. -
Sounds like a great idea. Deciding on "what's a forgotten kit" would be the issue. I've got a '88 Dodge Charger, '69 Ford Talladega, '69 Dodge Charger 500, '66 AMC Marlin, '66 VW Karman Ghia, '56 Mercedes Gullwing. Would the group decide what's "forgotten"? I like group builds Deciding on what's "forgotten". I'll follow along and might end up joining in. I'm in the demo derby community build right now. I'd probably have time for another one.

I agree. They look MUCH better put together with a great paint job. Keep building those type of kits. I know I sure will, when I get the chance. A pile of plastic in a box, is not a car til it's built.

Here's some pictures from the site. Saving the pictures to "my pictures" produced much clearer pictures when the size was reduced. That's what worked best for me.
-
Here's what I did to make smaller picture/posters. Go to site, right click on the picture. A box will pop up. Left click Save pic as. My pictures in your computer will open. Put the picture file in the my pictures section. To print the picture smaller. Your in the my pics section, left click on the pic you want. Go to the left side of the screen and click print pic. The pic wizard will appear. Click the next button until you get to the size of pic. Scroll down to the smallest pictures (like 35 or something). The wallet size may be too big for you. When you click the size, it will start printing. Hope this helps. It worked for me and I'm computer slow.

Now if someone will add a way to reduce the sizes of these, that would be even better. I think some could be used in their original size. http://www.vintageadbrowser.com/

Looks great !!! I need to finish mine.
