OK, I know I'm not the only one thinking of this. If this is your workbench, with all these fine in progress works, then I'd sure like to see the display case(s) or shelf/shelves.

General Concern About Kit Leaf Springs
Skydime replied to Skydime's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Alyn, that is some very nice craftsmanship. How some people can manuver and create parts this small escapes my imagination sometimes. But it is certainly way above and beyond the level of skill we are talking about. A majority of builders don't go that far. But it would certainly be nice to have something that half way decently represents the part for those that don't have the steadiness or abilities to scratch build something that nice. And then there are people who go all out as you have shown us above. I'm just simply saying that companies could try a little harder on parts that are so common and that they have gotten right in some kits. -
Models in the movies
Skydime replied to ReptileGuy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's not a movie but, still pretty cool. At least it's on film, in some way. The kid hanging out in the garage has a model car collection. For those who speak Spanish, please let me know if this says anything inappropriate. I didn't hear anything bad in the English parts so, I went ahead and posted. Kinto Sol Ft Frost "En Mi Lowrider" -

Valid point. Still, why can't manufacturers get it correct like the square body S10? A basic screw up across the board is an entirely different scenario than an uber detailed suspension. -

Thanks Casey. For some reason my computer skills eluded me there. LOL -

Side note...since we have mods involved in this discussion, can one of you add "About Leaf Springs" so the title of the thread isn't so vague? -
General Concern About Kit Leaf Springs
Skydime replied to Skydime's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is one of the kits I was talking about getting it right with the shackles. Most kits just have that little tip and a hole in the frame to locate it. But on the old school S10, Monogram decided to go ahead and throw in some shackles for accuracy. And, as a bonus, you could drill out the frame if you wanted to bring those leaves a little closer for a subtle ride height difference. Actually, let me make that SUBTLE as it wouldn't be much. That is close enough for me but, it also gives a little something for those who would just like to add a bit more detail instead of having to start all over again. -
General Concern About Kit Leaf Springs
Skydime replied to Skydime's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
True, they are pretty easy to make. I just wonder what the reasoning is for commonly incorrectly designing the springs. I understand that there are one off issues like the Mustang roof and others. However, this seems to be a pretty common issue with kit design. I can't imagine that those who do the research can look at so many vehicles without saying, "You know what? We're screwing up on all these leaf spring mounting hangers." -
General Concern About Kit Leaf Springs
Skydime replied to Skydime's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have seen kits with the hangers. They do not mount with them but, they are there. I've seen a lot of people make their own on here and they actually look pretty good. But I do see your reasoning but, it has been done properly with no ill affect on durability. -
I got to looking at a couple rear wheel drive kits that I have and I am really starting to come to an annoying conclusion about leaf spring replication. I know there are a couple kits out there that don't fall under this catagory. But as a general rule, I've noticed that most leaf sprung kits mount the leaves by a locator pin or a slat mounted into a groove on the frame. Why don't more kits have leaf spring hangers as a prominent intergration to their design? It doesn't bother me to the point that I won't buy a kit because of it. But it sure does make me wonder about things.

I think it turned out wonderful.

It's nice that she is incorporating your hobby into the wedding. Looks to be a promising wedding and future for the two of you. But anyone here can attest to one rule of marriage to remember...happy wife, happy life.

Skydime replied to martinfan5's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I would definitely go doors up! It looks better that way, IMHO. You worked hard redoing those doors and they should be shown off. And the previous comment about kits with opening doors closing right is generally the truth. -
Considering that crossmember and driveshaft loop, I take it you are thinking two piece shaft with a TON of suspension travel? Or is the picture deceiving on where the tranny tailshaft is gonna land? Perhaps bags on reversed lower bars or something insane? Wait, don't answer the last part...I know the answer. You don't do anything the easy way. Lookin' better every update!

Well, huh...guess you're right. That is, unless he is purposely not answering.

That's an extremely nice paint job!

Nice scratchbuilding! It looks exactly like a brand new dirt tracker id see on an average sat night...only a lot nicer.

Well, if my internet hadn't gone out for a while, you might have guessed right. Three more posts until Harry...maybe

Too many projects going on.
Skydime replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Richard, I hate to hear that multiple builds going on at once doesn't work for you. But the good thing is, you've tried it. Now you know which method works for you. We all do things differently and have things that work for us as individuals. However, if we never try something new, we never know if it will be better in the long run. -
Ding! Ding! I guess Tucker...unless he's not here right now.
