Another day of building models.
niteowl7710 replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This just in from WKYC Channel 3 News.... Big Creek has been renamed "Little River". Lakewood seals it's borders to prevent in an influx of refugees. Tune in tonight at 6 for more details. -
What does it take to Build a Model?
niteowl7710 replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not sure understanding of the subject matter is as important as having an interest in it is...You could be quite capably mechanically with automobiles, but if you're a plane nut, then building cars probably isn't going to turn your crank. I would also add - 4.) More Patience 5.) Another hobby you enjoy while you burn off frustration over that model kit your working on... 6.) Oh yeah more patience. -

If you're going to drag Texas into this, we'll be here all night. I believe there maybe more F-150s as squads in certain parts of the state than 4 door sedans. -
anyone know about this kit ?

Molded in Color...Molded in Color...all of the recent AMT/"MPC" reissues that don't come in the fancy pants retro boxes are molded in color *bangs head of desk*...why? Did I miss the part where this old practice of Monogram and Revell was missed and desired? Styrene doesn't come pre-colored, it costs extra that way...I thought Round 2 was broke *pounds head of desk* -

I have to wonder... Since four versions of this kit... the Florida, Texas, Illinois and Philly car DON'T have the rear Dodge logo, if they unilaterally decided that NONE of them needed it. Unfortunately 90% of departments (NC included) don't pop the rear logo off to install their graphics. I wonder how much a baggie of Dodge logos goes for... -

The wheels from left to right are the SRT rims out of the Lindberg SRT-8 issue, the alloy wheels (which need to be dechromed and painted argent/silver to look right) and the black steelies (one with center cap one without). -

Well the Testors kits had pictures of real cars on the box, not built models. It also seemed they photoshopped the push bumper on there as it's leaning at an odd angle...or maybe it's just the angle of the photograph. -

Those F-150's are assigned to Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, which hasn't gotten new trucks since 2005, so they're well overdue for some new rides. -
BMF, I don't want to do this.
niteowl7710 replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I accidentally bought blades that were too big for a standard X-Acto handle one time...and I was foiling something, so I decided to use those blades since I wasn't going to pay the $$ to get a specific handle for them. Now when I do my BMFing I don't even put the blades into the handle (I also still use the larger blades). I know people right now are probably cringing at how unsafe it is to use razor blades without putting them far away from your fingers, but it's what works for me. And echoing everyone on the patience front. BMFing is like doing complex decal work...it's going to take as long as it's going to take, you can't rush it, or try to take short cuts. I always draw up a plan of attack of what I want to get done in a particular session, then if that session goes smoothly expand to further areas. If it's a rough go, then once I finish it, I put everything down and walk away for awhile. -
Lindberg Charger police car kits
niteowl7710 replied to 1320wayne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All parts are the same across all seven kits, the only difference being the ones with specific departments include the decals to build those specific departments. You have to remember a lot of people pre-ordered these kits three years ago when they were supposed to be pre-"painted" and include only the parts for that specific kit. So we ordered the undecorated ones to get the full array of equipment and not have to deal with the attempts of pre-decoration. I'm sure there will be a small group of people tee'd off that they have to find the proper Cream color and actually *gasp* mask off and paint the FHP car...but it's a Skill 3 155+ part kit, you oughta be able to handle a two-tone if you can actually build the thing. -

Revell National contest
niteowl7710 replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I thought that too, but after reading the rules it does say you're supposed to go buy one during the time period, but I don't see anywhere where you have to provide a receipt. The online entry form just asks you what kit it is, and then the name and address of your "Favorite Revell Retailer". -
Don't worry Greg, I'll be out with a U-Haul, we wouldn't want you to be tight on space! In my corner of the world my eBay win got here finally...no pictures but it included AMT 1953 Ford F100 (AMT/Ertl repop of the Trophy Series kit) AMT 1957 Chevrolet Cameo AMT Cadillac Escalade P/U Revell '99 Chevrolet Silverado I also picked up the current version of the Revell '66 El Camino at the LHS...only went for 2 bottles of Tamiya paints...darn this addicti...err hobby.

Revell National contest
niteowl7710 replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not planning on entering, mainly cause the subject matter doesn't exactly yank my chain, plus I don't feel like going out and buying something NEW specifically for this contest, when I already have several of the older releases in my stash as it is (those old factory stock kits don't have the hot rodding parts)...irregardless my main reason for adding to this thread...is that my LHS has an entire end-cap display dedicated to this thing. If this sales display is used across the country I can see where Revell will get an up-tick in sales of those specific kits, whether people enter them into the contest or not. In my store this end-cap is the FIRST thing you see when you walk into the store, an it almost sucked me into buying the '48 Ford Woody cause there it was front and center demanding my impulse buying dollars. -
Lindberg Charger police car kits
niteowl7710 replied to 1320wayne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On the other hand it's a good thing since they aren't pre-decorated as they were originally going to be either, so no matter what version you find it's going to be a generic kit unless you specifically want to build the kit with the decals that came with it. -

Heard from Jeff today via another forum, that he popped open a couple of the "pre-painted" kits and the were blank white. The only differences being the decals. They all had the 8 lightbars, and both wheel options. Allegedly they're making 1,200 of each of the kits...although I bet if they sell out they'll make some more. -
How long have you been modeling?
niteowl7710 replied to wvsm's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Started around 8, ran through my teen years and petered out around the time I turned 19 or so and real life obligations like WORK I ran out some custom done police models through my mid-20's, and finally really got back into the hobby a year or so ago...I'll turn 34 in July. -

Well considering it will probably be mid-summer before the 2011 Police Chargers start hitting the streets, there's plenty of time to enjoy these kits. Especially since other than the taillight and rear trim change (went from saying DODGE on the LHS of the trunk and CHARGER on the RHS to just saying CHARGER on the LHS) this car will make any 2006-2010 car. With currently available decals you can make... Federal Agencies Amtrak Police FBI Police DHS - U.S. Border Patrol DHS - U.S. Customs & Border Patrol (dark blue stripe) National Park Service Ranger Department of Veterans Affairs Police (only select hospitals) U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division Police State Agencies Alaska State Police Alabama DPS - Highway Patrol Arkansas State Police California Highway Patrol (Recruitment, CVE, & regular patrol) Delaware State Police Florida Highway Patrol Georgia State Patrol Idaho State Police Illinois State Police Indiana State Police Iowa State Patrol Kansas Highway Patrol Massachusetts State Police Michigan State Police Mississippi State Highway Safety Patrol Montana Highway Patrol Nebraska State Patrol Nevada Highway Patrol New Hampshire State Police New York State Police North Carolina Highway Patrol (black over silver, and silver over black) North Dakota State Patrol Ohio State Highway Patrol (10 test cars in 2008) Oklahoma State Highway Patrol Oregon State Police Pennsylvania State Police (5 test cars in 2010) Rhode Island State Police South Carolina Highway Patrol South Dakota Highway Patrol Texas Department of Public Safety Utah Highway Patrol Wisconsin State Police Virginia State Police Wyoming Highway Patrol *NJ, CT & WV also use Chargers, but they are all unmarked units* Colorado State Patrol issued a cease and desist to Bill Bozo on his decals, I'm not sure about JBOT, since I know he actually had a letter of authorization from them at one point (he still shows them for sale on his website...I'd grab some while you still can). JBOT also has a variety of Canadian agencies that use Chargers. Municipal Police/County Sheriff Agencies Broward County (FL) Sheriff (white car) Columbus (OH) Police Dallas (TX) Police (white car) Houston (TX) Police Montgomery County (MD) Police Montgomery County (MD) Sheriff New York City Police Los Angeles (CA) Police Philadelphia (PA) Police Scott (LA) Police Trenton (NJ) Police Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police I was also thinking about the idea of Lindberg releasing the lightbars separately...all you need to do is get ahold of those of us who are getting the "blank" kits. A case (turns out to be a dozen per Lindberg's usual case count) will yield 96 lightbars, and only 12 of them are going to be used (if that considering slick-tops). So I expect a "black market" for the lightbars will develop on eBay. I know personally once I have multiples of the same few lightbars I'll mail 'em out to whoever wants one or two of the others. -

Get the blank white ones and paint 'em yourself! As for the idea earlier that Jeff bought and paid for a run, that seems like a giant gamble seeing is how those of us who pre-ordered were never charged until now. Wonder how many people still wanted to get them three years later since the economy took a thorough dumping on so many people. -

Jeff Halpern over at Police Car Models.com is where I saw it. He should know better than anyone since he has 3 year old pre-orders and someone who shall remain nameless that nags him every 60-90 days about them. -

Not only do they have all the modern high-tech cop goodies, but they're a fairly complete (read no snap-tite curbside here)kit too, the civi-versions were like 155 parts. A case is 6 @ $20...$120 isn't going to break me, I spend more than that for food at truck stops during the week.
