  1. Thats similar to what I am looking at building except mine has a sleeper. Thats a cool picture though. Another Question.. Does anyone out there know where I could find an AirShield for the top of the truck? Im looking for one like was in the White Road Boss (Branch Trucking)Kit. Heres a link so you can see what I mean. http://images.cloud.worthpoint.com/wpimages/images/images1/1/0709/08/1_75ccbe10f58e8c283de8c5a8bb7b5f3b.jpg Its just a flat airshield. I think the put it in the kit for one of the R Model Macks too. If need be Ill attempt to scratchbuild but if anyone knows of someplace that sells them or has one, im interested. Thanks!
  2. Hey thanks for all the input guys! I appreciate it. So I bought the conversion kit from Sourkrauts primarily for the fact that if my conversion wouldnt work I have a back up.. if nothing else I have an extra hood for the parts box. Besides i ordered the longer frame rails and a few other things as well haha i found sooo much stuff on there I just started adding things to the cart.. like a bug shield, a CB Radio, I ordered (2) Swan Hood Ornaments and that hood. Theres just so much on that website I had to watch myself, The only thing I didnt order and I would like to is the 10 hole Mo'Luminum Resin Cast wheels. I should have got them this time but I will have to wait for now. Anyways once I get started on this bad boy Ill keep ya posted with pics.
  3. thats gonna look sharp in that blue and silver, looking good!
  4. Hey its funny you mention that i was actually just looking at building that truck, its an Autocar A64. its says A64 B on IMCDB.org but i was always under the impression that the B in that code stood for set back front axle... but none the less it is an autocar heres a pic http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/1615/ott41pb4.jpg
  5. Hey guys I was hoping someone out there could maybe fill me in on a few things. I am currently waiting on my AMT Diamond Reo kit and I've been doing some pregame planning alittle bit. I want to build it to look like one of my dads truck he drove in the 80's and his was a giant with a set back front axle. Now I noticed that the fenders are seperate from the hood in the kit, meaning you glue the fenders on, would it be possible to make a set back front axle with that hood? or would it be easier to just buy the set back axle hood from Sourkrauts for 20 bucks? I mean if i did that then i would have an extra hood for another project down the road..
  6. Haha yeaa thaat was before i was driving too but I've been around trucks and riding in them my whole life.. i was the only 5 yr old in kindergarten that made a coast to coast run with his ol' man in a Diamond Reo Giant with a 42" Freightliner sleeper. haha you cant pay for the memories you get from those kinds of trips. I was blessed.
  7. Yeaa thats got the tall sleeper that i want to build too! see they were pretty common in the 80's i guess. just a 63 stand up sleeper from freightliner i take it.
  8. Hey thanks so much. Ill have to get some and try it.
  9. No doubt. thats a great tip, I'll have to keep that in mind with stretching that diamond.. where do you get your styrene? theres not one shop in my area that carries evergreen or plastuct or any kind of styrene. I will most likely have to order it on the internet but i hate doing that without seeing what im buying first. I guess just buy some assortments and have a guessing game with it and use what i can hah.
  10. Sounds like its gonna be pretty sharp.. I think thats always my greatest challenge in a model is deciding what colors to use. I just got an old AMT Diamond Reo kit on Ebay.. And I want to do something different with it.. I think I'm going to make my attempt at stretching the frame.. I never did it before. what kind of putty do you use to smooth out where you spliced? is that just automotive spot putty?
  11. Ya know another Movie truck that could be built from an existing kit would be the "Porkchop Express" from Big Trouble in Little China. It was kind of a corny movie made in the late 80's with Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall in it.. it had this sweet Freightshaker FLC120 with a 60" standup and an extra set of airhorns on top of the bunk even! I was thinking about snagging another Italeri FLC and building one. Best scene in the movie was when he fires that truck up and revs it up and Kim Cattrall says what was that? and Kurt Russell replies "A 6.9 on the Richter Scale baby!" lol i loved it! Sooo thats just an idea.. build myself a Porkchop Express in fact heres a pic.
  12. Oh haha boy do I look Silly. Well its still looking good.
  13. thats gonna bee pretty cool looking. whats that front out lowered to?
  14. Yea I'm sure there was or is a custom truck out there with no rivets on it. And you're right it would make it a heck of alot easier polishing. Good Luck and keep us posted on the pictures. You're doing great.
  15. Looks like your off to a pretty good start. So is that international in the background!. As to the cabs being smoothed I couldn't tell you if they would have ever come factory like that but its your creation so go with your imagination.
  16. Really sharp. Thats a nicely built workhorse with a big old slobbering detroit in it.. I like it. Alot.
  17. Hey thanks guys I'm glad you like it. It took me a while with my work schedule I tried to do alittle bit each night.. I find if I take my time and do it that way, I dont get frustrated or try to rush through it.. I think this one is my pride and joy tho haha. And yes I'm putting a wagon behind it I'm waiting til the re-released Fruehauf 40' Van comes out here at the end of the month. I'll probably go with a potato hauling trailer to keep that outlaw independent theme to the truck.. where I come from its all scrap haulers, stone haulers or tater trucking. Thanks again guys!
  18. Hey Guys! Soo after 4 weeks of working on it my Freightliner FLC is finished. Its pretty much Box Stock except i made my attempt at a scratch built drop visor , 8" exhaust tips and bumper poles.. the stacks and poles came out pretty good the visor is ok I might have to remove it and try again. Tell me what you think of it.. I think its the nicest I've built so far.. All comments Welcome! Here she is. And to top it all off i just got an old Diamond Reo kit from EBAY.. the price seemed decent..
  19. That is truly spectacular.. You reaally have a talent there to build something like that from scratch.. its just amazing.. Great Job!
  20. Hey thaats pretty neat I'll have to remember that, its cheap, and aluminum cans are usually around and easy to get ur hands on.. thats great!
  21. Hey the stuff at walmart do you mean "Purple Power" ? its like a degreaser type cleaner?
  22. Ok ill have to try that dupli color .. Im trying to find a medium shade of metallic blue and i found it in testors paint and thought Id give it a shot but the paint must have been old or just not good cuz it didnt stick it ran right off the parts i painted and thats after scrubbing them and primering them.... Thanks for the tip.
  23. Noo I dont want it to remove the glue.. see its my Freightliner FLC from Italeri and the cab pieces and sleeper pieces are glued together just perfect and I dont want them to come apart haha. Thanks again so much.. i was soo worried that i ruined it haha..
  24. Hey thanks very much guys!! will that remove the glue as well?
  25. Sooo i used Testors paint and it never dried its still tacky and i painted in dry upper 70 degree weather. for three days now the paint hasnt dried.. what can i use to remove the paint without hurting the plastic its self?
