  1. Astronaut DAVE BOWMAN in 2001: a space ODDYSEY...... look; i know i'm a film nut, but....
  2. i think he was hinting that i might relinquish my v8 since i used a Pacer 6 in my build.... but, there are plans for that engine as well....
  3. open the pod bay doors, Hal. pretty please.
  4. thanks Jairus... that was delicious. mmmmore,please...
  5. i don't have a tire clearance issue in the rear between the top of the tire and the body; mine is touching the body in front of the wheel on one side. not horribly evident, but it does touch, and the wheel is otherwise centered in the opening. ahh, well. so far, i have to say it went together without incident, even with the Pacer six transplant and the widened seats. i WAS going to clamp the rear of the interior tub to the chassis plate and glue it, but now i think that would have pulled the rear wheels too far up. the rear of the chassis IS a bit too far down, and the next one i build will have that corrected with some styrene glued between the tub and chassis. it doesn't really build up like a typical '70's kit; i remember most of them having vague locating pins/slots to deal with; this kit has definite interlocking features that build up pretty solid if you think it through. darn sight better than, say, the AMT '68 Torino GT kit....
  6. aaaaaaannnnnd? can't wait for the rest of the story.....
  7. you have to admit, they're trying. it ain't easy satisfying everybody!
  8. open the pod bay doors, Hal.
  9. cool little car. nice build!
  10. i want to chime in with a safety notice: wear gloves. WEAR GLOVES when working with Purple Power or oven cleaner. your skin will thank you.....
  11. sweeeeet... got a toothache now!
  12. what about an acrylic appropriate to the wheel color?
  13. no, mate; Under Glass is for anything finished, material and scale regardless!
  14. exceellllent.....
  15. thanks Art; if anyone had the X-file on it, you would!
  16. hadi; please check the US spelling of words before permanently putting them on your otherwise excellent models.... i'm reasonably certain you didn't intend to use the vernacular for "urine" in relation to the universal "PEACE" sign. and, i don't see why you don't post these in the Under Glass forum; they're models same as everybody else's.
  17. i've had vinyl tires that seemed to have enough (solvent? gas? i don't know) in them to react with chrome wheels or bare plastic, to the extent that they "welded" to the rim. i know that enamel reacts with vinyl by staying soft indefinitely... i don't have the new tires on hand, but i do have some from the Revell Merc....
  18. nahhhh.... we loves ya.
  19. overnight in the purple pond took the white headliner and black firewall paint off but didn't budge the Tamiya stuff; decided to wetsand it off since it was one or two coats over bare plastic. came right off, no hassles. just wanted it cleaned before i paint it black....
  20. Bill; many years ago i did the same with AMT '40 parts to backdate the suspension; with a little fudge work and some styrene, the axles will restore the truck's ride height, but the wheels are still terribly small for a truck. the Revell stuff may work better and, to get the right size wheels, i'd go for the ones from the '50 Ford f1 pickup. putty and sanding will remove the pleated interior detail. i also sanded off the louvers from the hood on mine. while it would be sooo nice if Revell provided stock parts for this kit, it never had them; and it's not too terribly hard to scratch up what's needed. i have a set of chrome reverse wheels and tires from the Revell '49 Merc that i'm saving to use on this kit.....
  21. pet peeve number 10,001.... Hollyweird stealing the name of a classic movie and plastering it on a Direct-to-DVD bomb. pet peeve number 10, 002... Hollyweird remaking a movie that simply does not translate into the current era.
  22. impressive! when they say "you can't get there from here", they're wrong.
  23. need to repaint a Chevelle wagon i shot with Tamiya spray last year and it got mildewed; so far Super Clean nor brake fluid has moved anything except the Testor's enamel i used for trim..... i'm going to leave it the rest of the night in the purple pond and see it it budges. here's another question: if it DOESN'T come off overnight in the purple pond, will i be okay painting OVER it?
  24. i'm post-dating a Blitz into a post-war workhorse now! i figure Hans was able to pick up a junked one and, using experience in the Wehrmacht motor pool, he rebuilt it and started his own trucking business.... but, that's a workbench topic and not a Toyota one. i'd like to find one of these Toyotas before they're gone again...
