  1. Nice job on the Aerotech, Adam. I have to tell you, though, as a kid growing up in Milwaukee in the very early ’60s, we lived next to a 'Red Owl' Food store and that big red owl sign was right outside my bedroom window. Scared the bejeezus out of me. I hadn't thought of that Red Owl in years, then I saw your avatar....I hope the nightmares don't come back!
  2. The epitome of the phrase, "When given lemons, make lemonade." Nice recovery and great execution!
  3. I was just at Starbucks reading the latest issue of Rod & Custom and drooling over three image of the 1:1 car included on page 50 (Columbus Goodguys show coverage). Then I log on here and see your replica, now I'm drooling over my keyboard. Well done!!
  4. Honestly, as much as I hate to hear of release dates being bumped back, I'm heartened to hear that it's being done to ensure that the final product is as accurate as possible. There was a day when "good enough" would have ended up on the store shelves. I for one am glad the emphasis on quality has improved.
  5. John I have to confess that every time I look at one of your builds I get a little bit uneasy wondering if your talent cost you your soul in some sort of irrevocable deal with the devil.
  6. I'm a transplanted Wisconsinite, (living in Sacramento), but whenever i get back to my hometown of Watertown, I always make the trip to Model Empire AND Greenfield News and Hobby. In fact, I'll be there in just over a month, can't wait!
  7. As they saying goes; "A fool and his money..."
  8. I've posted this one elsewhere, recently, but here's my interpretation of that great kit:
  9. Chris Froggett is one of my favorite automotive artists. This guy's work is first rate!
  10. Sunburned. (GoodGuys West Coast Nationals show in Pleasanton, CA) That and an introduction to a great automotive artist, "Bomonster". Check him out at bomonster.com, great Roth-esque scratchboard art.
  11. A somewhat reluctant "Nay" from me. It's interesting when done right, but most I see just look like oversized Hot Wheels cars.
  12. Just for grins, but I love it!
  13. 1960 for me as well, the year of the "aircraft carrier-sized" decklids. I do like the Ford from that year but would probably opt for an Impala if given the choice.
  14. I have to agree, NNL's have done more to revitalize the hobby than probably anything else. Magazine coverage of these events is what keeps my fire stoked.
  15. Bel Air from a few years back, but i still count this as one of my favorite builds
  16. $55 for an AMT ’64 Pontiac Bonneville convertible. He was asking $70, (windshield frame was cracked in one spot).
  17. My babies: 2013 Camaro and 1940 Dodge
  18. Q: I wanna lower the car but the work involved in cutting up the suspension is way too much for an area of the car that'll rarely, if ever, get seen, what should I do? A: Easy, just 'hog' out the axle boss and glue the wheels on off-center, who's gonna know?!
  19. I stumbled across this recently, I suspect it appears on one of those 'Premium" cable channels, but, as I am too cheap to pay extra for premium channels,...well, I saw it on YouTube. It combines three of my favorite things in the world: cars, coffee and comedy. You can't go wrong. This episode features a Porsche-powered Karmann Ghia, Joel Hodgson of Mystery Science theatre and a very retro diner/coffee shop. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gie3_zjbF7s
  20. How do I prepare for a build? First I spend countless days agonizing over what kit I want to build. Then, having selected one, I begin my research of the 1:1 vehicle, (this can take weeks). After I've collected my research articles and images, I begin thinking about what special features I want to include, such as opening trunk and doors, working headlights/taillights, plumbing, wiring and custom exhaust. Then I open the kit, spread the contents out across my bench, stand back and take in the project in front of me. Then,....I quietly and unceremoniously gather up the contents place them back in the box and place the box back on the shelf. I then grab a car magazine and a cup of coffee, find a comfortable chair and begin looking for inspiration for my next 'great' build.
  21. ’37-’38 Sharknose Willys. I know there's a company that makes a conversion for this, (Can't think of who at the moment, but the one I remember wasn't of very good quality).
  22. Harry, from your Photoshop file to the Brass at GM's ear, having just purchased a 2013 Camaro, Your rendering showing the '69 beak and stripe graphic on the silver Camaro is the only thing in my mind that could have made this car better! Nicely done!
  23. Mickey Thompson book was very good, two thumbs up!
  24. I have quite a few, these represent the ones I enjoy the most. While I subscribe to many car-related mag's, (Model Cars included), the only ones I save are 'Rodder's Journal', (have all but the first 8), and 'Collectible Automobile', (only missing the first year and a half). As for the books, the most cherished is the Gene Winfield autobiography, signed by the man himself.
  25. I don't know what's coolest about this build, the great looking car or the fact that you and your brother have such a great relationship and share common interests. Family's the best guys, thanks for reminding us!
