  1. Bob, I had the same thought years ago and bought a cheapie marked-down Bburago XK120 coupe at a local Kay-Bee. The dimensions betwen the two bodies vary so much that I put the while shebang away. I'm a modeler, not a metallurgist!
  2. The old Monogram kit is by far the most accurate (and best looking) 308 kit yet produced. The Revell offering that got modified into an ersatz GTS has proportion problems with the roof and, IIRC, the A-pillars are a little too angled making the whole roof look too low and shallow. (Hasegawa got the roof right on their 328GTS.) The Gunze Sangyo kit (also boxed by Testors) is too gimmicky for my tastes. So Revell Germany repopping the Monogram kit is very much appreciated. Will we ever see an accurate state of the art 308? Possibly, if Fujimi continues their forays into Ferrariland. Until that time, at least we have this.
  3. I believe Model Factory Hiro has done TRs in resin, but as we all know those kits are enormously expensive. Other than those, the only 1/24 scale TR I know of was the old BBurago diecast - not bad, but a bit clunky.
  4. Vintage Ferrari fans have had one of their prayers answered. Hasegawa has scheduled for release in April 2008 an all-new 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa - and yes, my friends, it is the much wanted PONTOON FENDERED car!!! This is not a rumor, its a FACT - Item SKU is #21219. Details (what there is of them) is at http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/dmlusa/prodd.asp?pid=HAS21219. The listing is in the Collection Rally series, so I have to assume it will be a curbside, but knowing Hasegawa it will be special. Now who will be the one to bring us a mainstream injection molded 250 Berlinetta Lusso?? Hasegawa, Italeri, Tamiya, Revell - pretty please??????
  5. Rob, the RoG 944 Turbo is the **Hasegawa** kit reboxed with a much nicer decal sheet.
  6. Actually, Fujimi has been better at providing left hand dashes with their kits. The Toyota Harrier kit from Aoshima is out in Japan. It is a snap kit but very nicely detailed. Right hand drive only. Two versions so far: stock and a customized version with tuner style wheels.
  7. Hey folks, Coming from Fujimi for a release later this month is the new Lexus LS600hl, the long wheelbase hybrid version of the big Lexus sedan. There is likely to be a left hand steering version, if not in this boxing, later on in the year. And just released in Japan are two versions of the Toyota Harrier crossover (known here in the USA as the Lexus RX350). No left hand dash, but they look great.
  8. Looks great Darin. Please let us know when we all can get our grubby little hands on one!
  9. Anyone know if any resin caster is doing or has done a 58 Edsel 4-door hardtop?
  10. The stuff is also good for masking camouflage schemes on aircraft models. That's where I first learned about using Fun-Tak. Been a part of my toolbox ever since.
  11. I have no doubt that these are Testors/Rustoleum's answer to Valspar's HOK Kustom Kolors. I'm with Bob that the pigments will hopefully be much more finely ground than in the MM lacquers. Whether they are plastic-compatible lacquers like Tamiya or "hot" like HOK has yet to be seen. But it always is nice to have choices, no? Even when you're running out of paint storage!
  12. Am looking for a couple of sets of tri-bar spinner hub caps, '50s style, such as those on the American Graffiti "Pharoahs" '51 Mercury. Anyone know if any aftermarket folks do a set of these, or are they in any available kit at the moment? Thanks!
  13. John, I don't see why the Mr. Color thinner would not work with Testors enamels, but I don't honestly think it would buy you anything significant to do so. I'm kinda partial to the normal Testors Airbrush Thinner for spraying "mainstream" enamels as it is "hotter" than normal enamel thinners (mineral spirits) and has always worked well for me. If you're spraying that aircraft with Model Master FS paints or similar, go with the Airbrush Thinner.
  14. I can't say for regular Testors or Humbrol enamels, but the Mr. Color thinner works great with the new HOK bottle paints.
  15. Sven you do fantastic work. Your box art has given Dave's special production runs the class they have always deserved.
  16. Speaking of sealers..... Has anyone tried using MCW's sealers on the newer Revell plastic?
  17. Izzy, I found a store in a neighboring town that stocks PlastiKote, and of course I stocked up on T-235 Gray. About six cans worth. They told me they were going to be a dealer for the new HOK spray range (NOT the model paints!). Looks like I'll be a regular customer there!
  18. Thanks Matt. I just visited their web site. No mention whatsoever of these valve covers!!! Maybe Ken knows something about that. Ken, can you assist?
  19. For a varation on that Cad mill, swap in the CADILLAC block letter valve covers from the AMT '59 El Camino. That would make a nice "period piece" addition. Anybody out there in resin land do a set of Cadillac italic script valve covers? Thanks!
  20. Brian, thats one question I should have asked...! As for fixing the '69, hoping for Revell to do it notwithstanding, I've often wondered why the resin casters out there haven't addressed that issue. (P.S. to the resin casters: you still can, you know!)
  21. Here's what I have been able to find out, and the news is VERY good: The kit will be parts additions to the existing Boss 302 model, and can be built either as Boss 302 or Mach I. New separate rocker panels with reliefed Mach I logo and ribbing. Two engines, Boss 302 and all-new 428 CJ. Two hoods, plain with optional scoop or SHAKER (YAYYYYYYYYYYY!). Decals MAY (I supplied R-M with references) include the striping and logos for the Twister Special version. All I can say is, bring that puppy on!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Got mine yesterday. It was definitely worth the wait.
  23. Mark, that reputation got shot to hell a looooong time ago! Seriously though, I'll have to post a few "under construction" pics of my now seriously hacked-up Lindberg 40 Ford. I hope the late, great Dave Shuklis, who inspired the idea, is somehow smiling on my creation.
  24. Mark, you got it. Lindberg decided (after some prodding from yours truly) to retool the Palmer mold into a 3 in 1 kit including stock and vintage police car versions. While many of the new parts are quite nice, the kit itself has some serious proportion errors and looks more like an exaggeration of the AMT kit than a clone. My "Dog's Day" review of the kit in SAE back in 1995 critically panned it, and I stand by my comments made back then. Now if you want to give your razor saw, files, and customizing techniques a real workout, you could do what I'm doing: choipping, sectioning, and re-profiling the Lindberg kit, finessing the frame, adapting IFS and IRS, throwing in a healthy V8 with multi-carbs, Foose style wheels and tires....yeah I know, it's TOO much work for that kit. Masochistic tendencies indeed.
  25. Miguel - great work on that Mickey D's. How did you do the emblems, the stylized M's/Golden Arches? Sheet styrene suitably shaped? Man, you got me thinking of doing a BK companion diorama! Looks like I better lay in a good stock of foam board and sheet styrene! Thanks, my friend.
