  1. It is indeed the old PSM tooling. I wouldn't call it accurate by any stretch, but it does make a good canvas for a custom or street machine. At least it's moldede in white instead of that weird high-gloss plastic Lindberg was (in)famous for when they first brought this kit out in the early 1990s.
  2. Len, This might just be an urban legend. I keep a close watch on what the manufacturers announce at the trade shows and their midyear announcements, and there has never to my knowledge been a GT40 Mark II in 1/12 announced from Trumpeter. However, Trumpeter has been known to stick stuff never formally announced at trade show time into production. If the GT40 is not an urban legend, expect it to be a $150-200 kit, jueging by Trumpeter's typical pricing.
  3. Terry, Welcome home, old friend.
  4. Mill City Replicas was the maker of the '70 GS ragtop body, in fact, it was his last product before he went belly-up. It was also his nicest, IMO. I missed the chance to get one for myself when he was still in business. Hopefully some enterprising resin caster can resurrect it.
  5. From the little bit of body shown in the picture Gerry posted today, it looks like Fujimi's GTO will be a late 1963 car, as was Gunze Sangyo's. But I'm with all of y'all in rejoicing that the GTO will be a full detail kit. We might just get that Berlinetta Lusso yet....! Cheers,
  6. BIll, the Dino is the "late series" coupe. It looks like I was in error about the car being the curbside however - from what I have been able to gather from Fujimi's announcement, it looks like the Enthusiast Model kit is the one being reissued here with the metal foil transfers and the photoetched parts. BTW, did you get to NNL East? I didn't see you there!
  7. It may have an LHD dash, but the 240ZG was never imported into the USA. This is the same variant Tamiya did in 1/12 and Hasegawa in 1/24, with the streamlined clear headlight covers and the faired-in bumper on the front fascia.
  8. You heard that right, and it is no rumor. Fujimi has announced a 1/24 Ferrari 250GTO in their Real Sports Car Series, item RS-35, expected release July 2008, price is 3200 yen. No details on variant as of yet. Also coming from Fujimi, all 1/24 except where noted: Ferrari Dino 246GT Deluxe Kit - the Real Sports Car Dino with photoetched parts and metal foil transfers.\ Ferrari F430 Challenge "Sharkmouth" Ferrari 288GTO Deluxe Kit - the Enthusiast Model kit with photoetched parts and metal foil transfers 1/20 Ferrari 126C2 San Marino 1982 - has special Cartograf-printed decals Ferrari F430 Scuderia Ferrari F355 "World Tour" And some non-Ferraris: 2007 VW Golf GTI Deluxe Kit - has photoetched parts and metal foil transfers 1971 Nissan 240ZG 1975 Mazda Savanna Rx-3 Racing Version 1964 Prince Skyline 2000GT (Type S54) Bring on the 250GTO!!!!!!
  9. Thats right, my friends. THREE Nissan GT-Rs. Fujimi, Aoshima, AND Tamiya. The only info I have right now is that Aoshima will do two kits, one a "Premium Edition" with photoetched parts. Let the GT-R wars begin!
  10. Right now, Ron, I would say that positive hopes are the best attitude we can take right now. First off, the people involved in the revived AMT/MPC/PL are product people, not mere money men. That in itself speaks volumes about possibilities. Money men only care about how much return on investment they get and how quick they see profit, they don't give a flaming ###### about product. Product guys know it's all about product and that you won't make money without good product. Had GM not put a product guy - Bob Lutz - in such a key position as he is in, they would still be making unremarkable automobiles. Because enthusiasts like Tom and John are involved in the production and marketing decisions of the new AMT/MPC/PL, I and many others feel a sense of confidence. Second, complaining to Tom and John or any of the new product team about errors, omissions, or inaccuracies made by RC2's Chinese engineers 1999-2006 or by pre-RC2 Ertl makes no sense at all. That's simply complaining to complain. Third, These guys ARE involved. Just because you don't see many of them posting on Internet message boards like this one doesn't mean they don't have their fingers on the modeler's pulse. In the case of the new AMT/MPC/PL, they just launched. Give them time to bring product to market. Then bring comments to bear. It's been my experience that model company people get very turned off by complainers. In the 25 years I have been writing for the former Scale Auto Enthusiast and Model Cars, I have kept one primary philosophy about product: if its good, say why it's good. If it's bad, don't diss the company, say WHY it's bad and if it can be fixed. Having that outlook and writing tone has made me friends in the model industry and also engendered lasting relationships - the end result of course being what I am able to convey in the pages of the magazine for all of you. Let's not make those who would be proud to serve up good product turn a deaf ear to our wants and desires. Maybe we will get a really superb '09 Camaro from the new AMT. Time will tell.
  11. I've met Tom Lowe several times and, knowing what I know about him, the future of AMT/MPC/Polar Lights is secure. He's very much a nostalgia buff (which the Polar Lights catalog can account for) - that being the case, just imagine what new subjects are possible! If he surrounds himself with topnotch people (which he is also known for, and having John G. on board proves it) than we are in for one helluva ride, folks. Now is not the time to bitterly complain about the mistakes of the past. Now is the time to have great positive hopes for the future.
  12. John, that's wonderful news. I wish you and Tom the best of luck in this new venture. I'll be in touch.
  13. You're welcome George. Hopefully we might see a 48 coupe from Revell in the future - or at least, a coupe body to fit the Revell kit from one of the enterprising resin casters out there.
  14. The Union issues were not run by Testors for Union. Union actually bought the molds from Testors at a time when Testors needed to raise cash. Same for the Heller issues - Union bought those tools from Heller when Heller was facing a cash flow crisis as well. I hope those Heller molds are equally alive and well.
  15. She's a'comin, boys! Just got notification that mine is on the way from Japan.
  16. George, I'm sorry to say that's not likely to happen. Testors sold many of the ex-IMC molds to Japanese company Union in the 1980s. Those molds included all the Ford GT40 kits, both 48 Fords, the Chaparral 2E, Lola T70, Volkswagen Bug, and Indy Lotus Fords. Union itself went belly up in the '90s, and nobody has been able to pinpoint what has happened to the ex-IMC molds since. Hopefully, that will not remain a mystery for the ages and those molds will once again turn up somewhere.
  17. My '70 Mach I arrived yesterday and I've had a chance to give the kit a once-over. I think you'll all be pleased with what Revell has done here. The kit is based on the Boss 302, and all parts and decals are here to build that version if you so desire. All-new parts include: New 351 Cleveland engine New radiator tank top New interior shell with separate side panels and new 2-piece bucket seats (upholstery pattern different from the Boss 302/Boss 429 parts) New five-spoke simulated alloy wheels (similar to those found in the AMT/MPC '71 Boss 351 but nicer) New rear fascia panel with textured detail between the taillights New hood with separate open functional hood scoop (NOT shaker!) and separate inset chromed hood "twist locks" New chromed grille with rectangular parking lights New chromed lower rocker panel trim with ribbing and Mach I logos Superb decal sheet with black and white striping, woodgrain interior inlays, scripts, and gauges I'll have a full critical review of the kit in the next issue of MCM.
  18. Bob, in 1/32 scale those Fujimi buses are still big puppies! Nevertheless they should be interesting. Seems Fujimi has settled on 1/32 scale for new truck and bus kits.
  19. Okay, folks, here's a pic of the prototype model at last week's Nuremberg show. This is one BIIIIG puppy!
  20. I gotta say, knowing it's a full kit and not a curbside has me salivating as well. Thanks Bob for posting the link to the pics.
  21. There's also a new dual exhaust system with an engraved Ford logo on the muffler and separate aluminum exhaust tips. A very nice updating of a classic kit. Oh, and the decal sheet has not one, but TWO different shades of wood paneling for the body side indents. Maybe we'll see some more of the old Early Iron Series updated in this fashion. I sure hope so.
  22. Dan please let us know when those puppies are ready for prime time. Thanks for all your efforts on this!
  23. Man oh man have I been waiting ages for this. I admit to being a little disappointed that it's not a big-block Nova SS but that's easily doable! Back in those days I had a good friend who bought a Baldwin-Motion SS427 Nova, green with black interior, the L88 hood, and one hell of a big block. That was too much engine for that car - I was always afraid he would twist the rear end right off. Scary fast in more ways than one Now I have the opportunity to build a model of my old friend Mitch's car. That and a Yenko, a stock SS396, an update to a 70 etc... Good show Revell!
  24. Scheduled for August 2008 release and YES it is 1/24 scale!!! Price is to be 79.99 Euros.
