  1. I enjoy building 1/16 cars. I had the idea of building a tractor trailer with car hauler to help display some of my works when done. I have been watching Ebay and Wow!!! I can not believe how expensive these trucks go for. I ubnderstand that they are relativley well, HUGE, but man, upwards of $200 for a good tractor and upwards of $100 for a good trailer, not to mention I really have not found a suitable car hauler trailer. I have always wanted to build a truck, but maybe that will have to remain a dream for some time!!Mean while I will just surf some of your guys builds. and enjoy from a distance.
  2. You always seem to come up with good ones and wip them babies out. Real nice Al!!
  3. I was freshly returned to the hobby about a year ago. Decided to go 1/8 wich there is little to offer.Wanted to scratch build everything. After a year, nothing finished and getting burned out, I picked up a 1/12 scale Revell chopper, one for me and one for my daughter. We finished both, a day each. Had fun doing it. Traded most of my 1/8 for 1/16 wich there is a ton more choices and started building again. For me maybe it was both, bored of not getting anywheres and wanting to spend time with the family instead of by myself. Doing something easy and different and including one of my kids kick started me!! Maybe depending on your kids ages and likes you could try that. If not, go drink one on the beach, Have fun,get your car running, then try again!!
  4. My only excuse is such a large family...... 3 kids, 2 dogs, 1 cat, old car needing repairs, boss whois alsomy landlord, so when he wants me to work, I do. So IF AND WHEN I can work on a model I do. I only have 3 projects of my own going on and one withmy daughter. One ofmine is boxed up for a while, one is waiting for more stuff and my main current build.Months is true for me though!!
  5. Now that is rather interesting! So will it be a low rider, tuner or dub style build?? I stillwonder if you ever crossed Model building with biology when you were in school??HEHEHE.
  6. Quick update. I have created side flares, smoothed the body out some and done a front spoiler that is roughed in. Too much hassle in the side detail, so I eliminated it and will redue it with new plastic. Here some pics.
  7. Tamiya is about the best out there. However you either need to find a decent hobby store or buy online. Also around these parts about $5.00 per can,and they are as smallas the testors.I used to use testors as it could be found at Wally World. However always got a kinda pebbly finish and the nozzle would spray erratic sometimes. If you want to be cost efficient and to find something available almost anywheres, I suggest the Dupli-color automotive paint. It can be found in just about any auto store in many many colors. If you know the poeple and they dont have a certain color, they will order it for you.It too is about $5.00 perbig can or $3.00 for little can. Thier chrome is good as well. Now I have not put a barrier on my models yet and have not had a problem yet. However a good friend of mine who has done show quality cars for many years now has started to have a problem and needed to start laying down a barrier. He just clear coats it first, then we use sandable primer. They have a filler sandable primer that I like to use as it will fill in any scratches on my models and sand down smooth. However I do big scale. On the little cars you may want to stay with the regular primer so you dont loose any detail. Use as many coats as needed to cover your model if you used putty anywheres to fill in sink marks ect.I would say the fewer the better, but no less then 2. Now the color coats is best if spayed on light and 2 or 3 coats with wet sanding inbetween coats.try something around 1000 grit or so if possible. Remember again the more coats you put on the moredetailyou will loose likewise, the color will get darker or "deeper". Last comes the clear. Depending on what you are building they have dull coat, satin gloss and gloss. Try to keep to just 2 coats and then polish heavily as reguired. As for the paint in the can, it also will go on smoother if you warm the can first by sitting it in a warm bowl of water for a couple of minutes. Make sure you sake very well and make sure the nozzle is clean.Last, this should help you get a good coat, but as MrObsessive said, practice practice practice will make near perfect!! Now this is what works with me. However you may find something else that works better for you.Good luck and hope to see some stuff from ya soon.
  8. I cant wait to see this thing come together with the pasrts chaser and tow truck of yours!!Will you have a back office in it?? Will have to put yout two much in it as well as the bad rat!!
  9. I have started a new project. I am using a 1/16 scale 1964 1/2 mustang body and extending the nose to make a 60's style flopper. I am using a parts box funny car frame and hemi motor to roll with. I have glued the doors hood and trunk down and filled in the seems. The rear wheel well has been moved forward and reemed out to make it a altered as well. Now I have also re-vamped the rear body mount to fit the stang. Also have dropped the rear axle mounts to lower the rear end as well as shorten the front seat bar for the seat to fit properly. Many more scratch building and changing parts to go as well as probably 5 years worth of sanding.LOL. By the way I will be the first to let you know that I hate sanding. Anyways here are some pics.
  10. I love that kit.Cant wait to see it all come together!
  11. I may know of a third source that has created and replicated a 300 style wheel. Major bike dude. I will check.
  12. Very Nice!
  13. Again welcome aboard. I hope to see this project through and may be interested in a copy??
  14. I am not sure if these may be the best way, but they are two ways none the least. What I have done on one is to cut a relief in the bottom upright and take a amount out of the top bar, or visa versa, cut a relief in the top bar and add on to the bottom bar. In either case, you willneed to fill the gap on the relief cut and naturally smooth out the lines where you either shortened or lengthened your bars. The choice on top or bottom I feel as though is primarily contingent upon the style of the bottom bar/bars and if there is any give to bend out or not. I hope this helps you.
  15. Very nice.Any interior?? Real good job!!
  16. Thanks Gregg. Nice little site!! I like the smirnoff dragster. Have a extra rail and debating what to do with it. Now I have some research for that to do too. HEHEHE. Hope you dont mind, I shared the site. Someone else liked it very much too!!
  17. Greg what I amworking with is the 1964 1/2 Mustang Coupein 1/16. I am looking for a flopper (funny car) of that body style. I wouldlike to maintain a stock body appearence. If I need to do a front spoiler fine, but would rather more or less keep the stock ones. If there is a cool one to find reference on then maybe I will model it. The biggest thing is I am trying to find pics of the rear of the cars. Oddly enough everyone seems to take pics of only the front of the cars. I need to know how they mounted the chute in those days and how the push bar was done. I have only found one reference of wich, but that was a altered not a flopper. Thanks for any help.
  18. This is the only thing close I could really come up with thanks to some help, but still looking.
  19. Dear Gregg will there be resin copies for sale inthe future for that 1/16 bantam?? By the way Al still like them!
  20. @Jairus That may be enough for me to search that route and get a rear shot. Thanks. @harrypri Ive done been googled out. I also came across the 70's funny site, but does not seem to work, nor does your two??
  21. I am looking for any reference material for a nastolgic mustang coupe (60's body) funny car. I have searched and searched and the closet I have come up with is either 1970 bosses, Pony II's or fast backs, no 60's coupes. Please help as I have already started this project and have a diced up body I am working on.Thanks.
  22. Nice rendition of that bug!
  23. Looking nice so far!Any other pics
  24. Some realy nice rides and some boring things too!! My latest daily driver is a 1991 light blue cadillac deville springtime edition( very rare) with white carraige top, powered moonroof, white leather interior fully loaded of course, 130,000 miles on the Northstar 4.9 V8, basically newer version of the old 500's. Shes got tons of sh.. and get!! She will sqaull the tires so far no matter the speed if I drop it a gear and pound the floor. I have also left rubber for a full block and threw rubber behind me a good 35 feet!!A very nice classy car but yet will smoke the heck out of a camaro iroc, taurus sho with tuner mods, subaru with tuner mods, lil red wagon, justy, cutlas calais sport , omni glh, 52 belair, chevelle 350, and yet Im still looking for more to beat.Honestly, no ones beat me yet except the coppers!! There have been countless vehicles on the parway ready to pound the pedal to get in front of me, I smile and naturally allow them a spot behind me.Only downfalls is repairs are expensive
