  1. I too use this meathod. I like Arm&Hammer as it is not harsh on the plastic and has baking soda so it scrubs nicely. It is also what I use on my second to last paint coat as it works like a finnal wet sand and the last coat just shine
  2. Thanks guys, much appreciated. Checked it out on the weekend and they are even cheeper than my local retailer
  3. That's a great idea. I'm not a psychiatrist but my proffessional opinion is "No, your not crazy".
  4. Does anyone else on this forum build Gundam kits? If you do, do you get your models online and if so from who? I wish to get some more kits but they can only get a very limited selection at my local shop, and I dont want to drive 2 1/2hrs away to pick up any kits that they don't have.
  5. Pre building complete. Now time to disassemble and fix any sprue connections, sand for better fitting parts, sand for paint, paint, decal and clear.... Not sure how fast the rest will be completed as I have lots of projects on the go. But pics will be up as I go.
  6. Not really. The Wacky Gundams are "one offs" or special units. This is a production model meaning mass produced. Think of the wacky units as concept cars and these as the production car. Plus these are ground units so they dont have the wings for flying around space. So I couldn't just let this sit on my shelf so I decided to start the pre-building. I may stop once it is pre-built and not paint till most of my other projects are done. Here is the progress so far:
  7. I know its not car related, but I am happy Picked it up on the weekend Lots of parts and fun to build, and always look good once they are built...
  8. Went to the big city today and got to visit one of my favourite model stores This is what I picked up: I love Gundam models but they can be very expensive. This store always has a good deal Lots of parts: that will hopefully look like this once completed: I'll post as construction starts
  9. Got the same model as Cranky. Paid $29.99 Cdn at Factory Direct in Kingston Ontario. Works hella good
  10. I got an ultrasonic cleaner as well. Used windex and I must say "WOW". Thanks for passing on the tip to us Cranky.
  11. Welcome Nice build, love the engine detail.
  12. Here is the link to the Royal Rail project http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41185
  13. So I purchased this kit for parts... opened it up and was intrigued. I like how it was built and dont think I want to scrounge it for parts. I have stripped the crome, cleaned up the spru connections and started the build. It id pretty cool so far. My wife id a fan of Alice in Wonderland so I may use that as the theme; The Red Queen. The Kit: Progress so far: dry fitting and pre build ready for the base coat and chroming So I also have some questions. I use an airbrush. Using Tamya Primer should I pre mix and if so with what and at what consistancy. Or do I just use the gloss black as my base as I plan to use Alchlad II to chome the pieces myself? Any thoughts sugestions are welcome
  14. Well, I have got the models and started ripping kits apart. This is going to be my first kitbash. After taking the parts I want I am not so sure I am liking the look. PLUS I have opened the Royal rail kit, and WOW this thing is really neat. I have never done a "show rod" and I think its an awsome kit. I couldn't stop fiddling with it. So I stripped the chrome, started filling mold imperfections and am almost ready to paint. I'll post pics. Hey flamefink I love the idea of using The Von Franco "Eye Gone Wild". I have lots of Ideas to get The Duece done, but I think this will be a long build (I really wanna get this one right). Also does anyone have any ideas for the pipes? I think getting those correct is very important to getting this thing looking good.
  15. This is typical, we need/want new kits. I love the classic cars, but I am an all arround car guy. I want to have some NEW models in my collection too. I was super pumped about the new Mercedes SLS, now I am just sad
  16. Now if only I could get a template for my 1:1 tires, it would save me a bundle on my other project
  17. I was 12 when I did my first model. Did quite a few till I was 19 or so... then life got busy, University/job/wife. Now at 28 I am starting again and this time more seriously. I even got an air brush/booth and a work bench. I love it more than ever
  18. Ummm.... no. That is one crazy custom Wonder if you would use real feathers
  19. Thanks Dr. Cranky. Spent a few hours at the local hobby shop yesterday getting my supplies. Can't wait to get home tonight and start my build.
