  1. I agree with your theory 110%. Its a great idea, and it can be done, but not for $30, and certainly not safely for $30. Have you priced a sealed fan motor lately ? The plastic bins alone are a bad idea. They are designed to "contain". And contain they will, even fumes. When the motor becomes gummed up with over spray, and it will, they will heat up, the bins by design will contain the fumes, thus the recipe for a time bomb. Especially with your longer , deeper plastic bins. I would no sooner have one of these in my home than a rabid Hyena, but to each your own. I am making a point from a parents point of view, kids should not do this. This post should be taken down or at the very least edited so that kids who see should be made aware this is not a simple home project, and should be done only with an educated adults supervision.
  2. Really ? You spray flammable chemicals at your computer fans ? That's what you're saying in essence. I build my own PC's as well and a spray booth has not thing one to do with a PC. I am however a professional body tech. Familiar with the laws an regs involved in a full scale paint booth, both in design and operation. The laws are in place for a reason. You said it yourself, " The only thing I have ever seen happen is the exposed motors will get gummed up with paint and stop working if not properly filtered". Do you have any clue how dangerous that actually is ? Point of fact, this IS dangerous, and having it posted here where young kids have access to it is irresponsible.
  3. OK, so my brother was just over, and I had to show him these ... He's been an Electrician for nearly 35 years. Bathroom fans are to a degree "sealed" but not in the way necessary for painting, they are not designed for constant exposure to paint fumes and buildup.Nor are PC fans. These are TIME BOMBS, completely and totally unsafe. There is a reason actual spray-booths both full size and hobby size are expensive. They have the proper SEALED fan motors and electrical connections. All it takes is one spark and someones going to the ER or worse. There are young kids on here, this post should be taken down before somebody gets hurt. There are places you can cut corners if that's how you choose to do things, this is not one of them ... seriously ? hardwired lights ? battery operated LED tap lights are a much safer alternative and undoubtedly cheaper. Seriously, the mods need to delete this before there's an injury...
  4. Sounds like we lived in the same house ... my sister and I still laugh about that to this day ....
  5. Thought this might help a little. Chevrolet introduced 5 new wagons for 1958. The Nomad was back and still the top of the line wagon but with it 4 doors it was not as sporty as the 1955, 1956 and 1957 Nomads. The outside and interior trim package on the Nomad was the same as the Bel Air series. The Brookwood 4 door model easily carried nine passenger and looked great also. It was also available in a 4 door 6 passenger. The thrift priced Yeoman was offered as a 2 door 6 passenger and 4 door 6 passenger station wagon. There is no "more or less" about it , they did in fact make a 1958 Nomad... Google is your friend ...
  6. AgentG, thanks for the info... I've been trying to build this car for awhile now..
  7. Does anybody have the slightest idea what state the Trans Am pursuit car was from the opening scene of the original Cannonball Run movie was ? It has similar markings to the CHP, but those are black and white, like the Z-28 used later in the movie. The Trans Am was blue and what appears to be gray. Any help would be appreciated ....
  8. I personally don't see anything wrong with CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. It's a learning tool. As long as it doesn't get personal, or insulting it's perfectly acceptable. people who can't handle constructive criticisms shouldn't post their work PUBLICLY ( this IS a public forum after all ) for those to see. Secondly, people that are so thin skinned should probably pick up another hobby. I personally can accept criticisms, its no big thing, just as long as its RESPECTFUL.I know I'll never be a contest winner but I also realize that means I have plenty of room for improvement. I love to learn, and one of the best ways to learn is by CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS ...
  9. WoW, it is kind of nuts how they keep wearin' out this horse. I remember being a kid and seeing the kit in Woolworth's for the first time. I lost my little freakin' mind .. LOL I also remember being disappointed at what was actually in the box , even back then it seemed very "basic". Now as an adult I won't part with a cent for this kit, or any "re-issue" of it. It's a shame actually considering the popularity of the General Lee and the Dodge Charger itself in films. Think of how many movies this body style has been in ... Deathproof, Vanishing Point (1997), Fast and Furious franchise, Bullit, Dirty Mary and Crazy Larry , All the DOH films and TV episodes , Blade franchise , etc etc . I know there are more movies ... point being it's such a popular car I really think it shows how we as modelers will accept mediocrity, proven by the fact that these terrible DOH kits keep getting reissued AND selling. I personally haven't bought one since 1981 and won't ever unless there's a serious re-tooling ...at least "Revellogram" got it close to correct ...
  10. Being a body man by trade , I can tell you with out a doubt it's not so much the gun, as it is the OPERATOR ... practice, by something inexpensive I got a very nice airbrush a Harbor Freight, granted its cheap and I bought it for weathering, but its still a good gun. You can buy using name brand as a guide or you can research. I've seen guys with $900 Sata ( Brand) guns lay down some of the worst paint I've ever seen. I've also seen guys lay down glass smooth paint with a gun I wouldn't spray primer with.. buy something cheap ( inexpensive) to learn with...
  11. NICE !!! is that your real 1:1 Plymouth Sport Sub ? If so that is the ultimate ... LOVE those things .. My folks had one growing up and I've wanted one ever since ...

  12. I have one right down the road from me, I'll check it out , thanks ... BTW I noticed you're from the 'Burg, do you ever get over to AB Charles Hobby shop ? That was pretty much my second home when I lived in Pittsburg.. great shop and even nicer guy ...
  13. Not to mock the work of others, I don't think I'd be willing to give up that much of my life to watch that movie, let alone pay for it. That being said there are several movies out there I'd rather see again ... this movie http://www.shiftfilm.com/ looks very promising... a lot better than that trailer I just watched. Seriously, I'm gonna need the jaws of life to get that image out of my head ....
  14. Not excited a t all, more CGI, more ridiculous use of the word "NOS" ( who says that, really?) If I'm gonna drop my hard earned cash on a "racing" or car flick it'd be for something realistic, like this ... http://www.shiftfilm.com/
  15. Thats pretty close to Stropes "Vision" the only thing really "off" is that car has paddle shifters, not a stock shifter ...
