Who are Gregg & Jairus?
Taxdude replied to ABC Auto Industry's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
One of these things is not like the other one of these things just does not belong.......but as long as it has been thrown out which one is Cher? Running and ducking -
Hi Chris and welcome aboard. Weren't you part of the Model Car list in the long, long ago? Fred
-
DC, It looks great. I know that you aren't trying to match Jairus's sketch 100% but one thing that stands out are the welds on the body. In the sketch they look new as though the body was just ground to bare metal and then welded. I think that these new welds on the old body really give it the Frankenstein feel. But that's just me. Fred
-
DC those welds are beautiful. Now it looks like the body was stitched together instead of JB Welded. And I really like you the seat came out. Looks hastily installed, brilliant
-
The look is spot on now. For the weld how about trying something like this. First get rid of the strip plastic weld they overwhelm the body. What I have used in the past to simulate welds is a #11 blade in a blade holder that screwed into a soldering iron. Once hot you can use the tip of the blade to create (stitch) your own welds without having to add extra material. Practice on a old body and you will see that you can make the weld as small or large or clean or nasty as you want.

There are no "neglected projects" simply just projects that are aging and waiting to be pulled out and enjoyed when the time is right.
-
It is very difficult to build in the mythical 3rd dimension.

I like a warm glass of milk. Very nice and great flames
-
Now that screams weekly driver/weekend racer, very cool

PM sent

All great suggestions but I'm looking for more of a skinny treaded tire that a low-buck weekend racer would have used, probably the same tire that he drove to the flats on
-
In the quest to have to many projects going at the same time I have added a new project. I'm replicating a 50's era 32 Ford saltflats racer but not a dedicated race car, more of a driver/weekend racer. But the problem that I have is that I don't have anything in the parts box to use for tires. These would be mounted on steelwheels and be fairly skinny. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Fred

Oh Canadada.........

Man your turning into the Paris Hilton of model building...all style no substance Yep I'll be there, was thinking about bringing some smoked country style ribs with a Kansas City style sauce (still perfecting the recipe, but it's wicked good) Have you got a approximate head count? How many vendor tables you going to be running? Fred
-
Buying PE, you hack. I remember the days when you would whittle radiator mesh out of a can of Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup...... When you would vulcanize your own rubber for tires..... When you would weave your own scale nylon for seatbelts.... When you would crush your own pigment to make just the right shade of paint..... The shame, the shame.

When built with attention to detail these kits are stunning -

Thanks Nic, Finished one in a couple of weeks, funny. At the pace that I build a couple of years is more like it. I took a look at you Fotki site very nice. I didn't see the 500F2 on your site, do you have it? The '53 500F2 is a metal bodied kit. Now when you say that there is some clean up on the body is it more of a flash and tooling marks issue or fitment? Fred -
Format of Posts on Forum
Taxdude replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is very confusing. If you come into a thread that you have never read it reads backwards and you have to scroll around to read what was said originally. If it's a thread that you have been participating in I could see the advantage of not having to review the exsisting messages. But with the buttons to get you to the end of the thread no problems. I must say that I liked the old way better. Oldest to newest. Also the number system makes no sense. The newest post to an old thread is labeled #1 when it's actually #10 or 25 or 147. ff -
Posting Pictures to the Gallery

I opened an album in the gallery and it was very simple. Now I could only upload one pic at a time. Can you do multiple pic's? ff -
The flames are incredible. Have you ever done or thought about doing a write-up on how you do them? ff
-
Is it just my eyes or do the whitewall inserts not fit into the tires completely. They look like the stick out a bit. ff

Only the left-side.....

Hey Bill, If you are looking for good looking bolts check these out http://www.hlj.com/product/SAK4495 Fred

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Get rid of the lip at the top? Get rid of the fenders? Widen the bed to eliminate the separate fenders? (That would look awful!) David
