I took new pics this morning. They are better than the old ones anyway.

This is a Modified / Sports car. This class was for Corvettes, T - Birds and other cars that NHRA deemed to be Sports Cars. Essentially Gas class cars. Eventually these cars were dumped into the Gas classes.

I made the headers from solder, the roll bar from metal tubing and the tonneau cover is sheet plastic with rivet detail via a pounce wheel. I printed the decals too.

  2. This one is from 2014. Pretty easy build using the WInged Express chassis. I used only the body from a Cobra kit. The rest of the parts? I probably put it in a box somewhere never to be seen again. Engine was from the parts box. Decals from the collection of unused. The tonneau cover is just sheet plastic using a pounce wheel for the rivet detail.IMG_9310.jpg.327fd5249c0be1df2feacda7a88a94a8.jpgIMG_E9312.jpg.96e6e8c923aacc614a3ddcf49f236b8f.jpgIMG_E9314.jpg.5804b077109bb559354522fe42972618.jpgIMG_E9313.jpg.e0e459d0758b03facb751eae8f187ebd.jpgIMG_E9316.jpg.ca26e5e1548a2dbb5e8c994ea9a8a249.jpg

Nice looking build !!!  Prudhomme's similar version of this car was the last front engine AA/FD dragster to win a NHRA event. I was at the 1972 Molson Grandnational event when Art Marshall won the event with the outdated car.

That's some great trivia right there! That photo was taken at Englishtown. I'm sure I was there but I don't remember that car . Fifty years can do that! 😐

The top on Landy’s ‘67 was not vinyl, it was painted white in reference Dodge’s “White Hat” advertising campaign. The white paint came down the a-Pilar about 2” below the top of the drip molding. (I don’t know why they did that, it looks wrong).
I realize I’m late to this post but I thought I would post this for anyone else modeling this car.

I also thought that this car had a vinyl top but photos show that it was definitely painted as there are no seams.

In an article by Hagerty, Mike Landy states that the car was originally silver with a black top and that he repainted the car blue with a white painted top.

  5. One thing that I forgot to mention about this kit. The body is seamed down the middle. Be prepared to do a lot of gluing, sanding and filing because the two halves don't line up all that well.

That’s a really nice looking slingshot dragster I have a couple of these in my stash. May I ask what paint color did you use?

I believe that the blue was Testors Arctic Blue.

Excellent build! I know it's not the most accurate, missing major details, etc... but I also collect redline Hot Wheels so I have a soft spot for this kit. Where did you source the decals?

Thanks. I got those decals a long time ago. Pretty sure they were Slixx but are out of production. You might try to contact Slixx to see if they have any spares.

  8. Sometimes, the simple kits can be a lot of fun. This one was out of the box with the only change being the decals. The kit supplied decals were pretty poor and also lacked the "Hot Wheels" logo due to some licensing deal. I also added plug wires. DSC02853.jpg.ea2107f6c38cb360467704ab27df4c50.jpgDSC02849.jpg.110963c0406b1f4ac359b5791822f56d.jpgDSC02852.jpg.3943a1aa4e09fcaa0670a7761ea24826.jpg

Super nice job on the model Walter.  Do you still have that Roadrunner?    Its pretty awesome.

Thanks. No, I recently finished a total restoration on the car and sold it (my retirement money). It turned out to be a pretty good long term investment

  10. Not sure if I ever posted this car here. Lost the photos for a long time do to the hosting site shutting down. I recently found that I had the pics on an old phone and I recovered them.😀

I always loved this car. It was the only road runner Funny Car that I know of. It was certainly not very aerodynamic but it did hold the NHRA speed record for a time in 1969.

I tried to use a resin body at first but it just didn't look quite right. The johan body was perfect. Tin and chassis are from the parts box.IMG_9241.jpg.c598dc5fe2cda43cdcfb35d3c35fe332.jpgIMG_E9238.jpg.38c42b3f1a2f46890c23fe25d4669292.jpgIMG_E9220.jpg.04bb8ad571f3adec9f4b3a02203f9d49.jpgIMG_E9221.jpg.92910f60d88fb1253ef24ebc1867504a.jpgIMG_E9233.jpg.deedc81d8e1511b480522967c54c58c3.jpgIMG_E9235.jpg.ea4a7d9331177a12ded45de4b989ca38.jpgIMG_E9216.jpg.4dc618cfc65c6dcf0a10319a867375b9.jpg

I was ecstatic to get the photos back but I just realized that I don't know where the actual model is. Gotta be packed away somewhere. Too many moves in a short period of time.

  11. Thanks for all the comments. I thought that it might be fun to bring this one back from the dead . When I look at the prices of new kits, I cringe. It's probably because I grew up in a time when these kits could be had for a dollar!

  12. This was my first car (1971) I bought it with the money I saved from my paper route ($750). Can you imagine a kid being able to do that today? The model is how it would have appeared when brand new.

I had a vinyl top put on because it was often mistaken for a NY city taxi! 😳IMG_E9211.jpg.4d18743168c450c03e06865af42e75c0.jpgIMG_E9210.jpg.80d4dc6a2cb2179446787ac5cb297b12.jpgDSC02832.jpg.8b5df5e211168f1fd60fb0d06ac8cfa1.jpgDSC02835.jpg.1c727b43d92a3ffac8a1ffa85289c7b7.jpgDSC02839.jpg.f5d13e7f13c14063cc4f4a81cd3e721d.jpg

I still have my 1:1. My buddy commisioned a wooden version of it in probably around 1:18. I made a 1:25 scale version with a marginal skillset years ago. I even made a 1:64 diecast from a Johnny Lightning.

I now have correct 3D printed rims and another mint unbuilt to take another swing at the 1:25 version.

Walter...killer car, and nice replica too~   whatever happened to the 1/1?  As you may know, I factory ordered a '74 RR E58 360 hipo....mine lasted 16 years ang 140k+ miles...could have easily gone longer but good ol' Mopar rust did its deed.  I ran Cragar SS type wheels on mine too (except mine were wanna-bes; couldn't afford the real things).....TB

That '74 was my all time favorite personal car. I think it might be a tie with my current '13 Challenger. It did everything well. As a bracket racer at NY National Speedway, I won so many times that they literally kicked me out! Lots of great memories with that RR.

I sold that '74 in 1976 to make way for a '69 A12 road runner that I recently sold. Gonna show my model version of that one too.
