  1. For subtlety I put my mold lines and ejecter pin marks in unorthodox places just to trip up the people who accuse me of using kits!!
  2. Wouldn't that be a "scratch built" model of a diamond? Related pet peeves of mine are when someone says that they "scratched" the part when they meant to say they "scratch built" it. The other one is making it one word when it should be two. I guess that makes it a scratch built word!
  3. Ok, Mr. Henry Allen. You win! Holy cow! What the hay! That shoebox Ford is ruined and that 57 4 door hardtop, which is a cool car by itself is utterly destroyed. That 57 underwent a ton of work and the craftsmanship doesn't look bad. Too bad it is utterly without any sense of design. It will take me a minute to get my equilibrium back.
  4. I wasn't going to say anything but since you brought it up.......
  5. Wow! I would not want to relive stress! You must be a glutton for punishment! I much prefer relieving stress!
  6. Beautifully done and clean, as always. I like the fact you put a big block in instead of the usual hemi. That coil is the biggest I have ever seen! That must put out one huge spark!!!
  7. Oh Boy! I found more! Franco Sbarro in Switzerland has built a lot of very wild stuff over the years but this one is really, really....interesting. It is called the Sbarro Autobau. Then I found these air-propelled cars! Too, too ugly and cool! French. British.
  8. The Black car looks to have upside down landau bars!! Ooops!
  9. I hear you, Brother Donn!! That is precisely why I will not comment on resin casting questions. Some time back a few folks who did not have much experience were all over me about techniques they heard about from someone else. They weren't even speaking from experience. I have been resin casting since 1980. I have made thousands of molds and many tens of thousands of parts. I know what I am talking about and I know what I know. It wasn't worth it to me anymore. At the end of the day, I cast for myself, and I could care less! So there!
  10. This topic could go intellectual on us! There is a difference between "Art" and "Craft". Often both things are present in a work. Sometimes it is only one or the other. Realism is a different topic entirely. Some very abstract and wild models are very detailed and well crafted but are not realistic. They are an abstraction of a real car or an idea for a car. I believe that, in general, replica builders use more craft. The art may be in the details like paint detailing and visual tricks to make it appear more realistic. Builders who make up their own designs are using more art in coming up with an idea for what they want their model to look like. Some are more successful than others. I completely appreciate both aspects of model building.
  11. Because I like to offer up wise@ss comments and be a funnyman!
  12. Can we all not use the phrase "I build for myself" anymore? It is pretty obvious we all do build for ourselves. Who else would we be building for? Pet peeve, which I had to put out there. Carry on.
  13. It would be awesome if you FINISHED a model!!
  14. That is a 80sor 90s? re-issue of the original kit from the mid-60s. It is a really nice kit and builds well but is not a particularly valuable kit, unfortunately. I would guess the value somewhere from $30 -50.00.
  15. At least he wasn't pushing on an imaginary clutch pedal each time he shifted! Or was he?
  16. How about South Carolina?
  17. The scoop and dagmars are unique but they work. You definitely have a signature look to your models. Someone can see a model on the table and know right away that it is Sauber's! That is a good thing!
  18. I agree with most of the sentiments expressed in this thread. I don't say much about finished builds except if I really like it a lot. I am kind of jaded so I end up not commenting much. I will comment on occasion when someone asks a technical question about something in the General or Hints and Tips section. That is a lot more appropriate than in the Under Glass section. I have a lot of experience building models which means I have run across more wrong ways to do things than most!!
  19. I will match your French Winged Truffle and raise you a Thirty eyed Escargot-mobile! So there!
  20. Tools and supplies can be found everywhere from those LHS to hardware stores to radio shack, craft stores etc. Just keep your eyes peeled wherever you go. Of course Ebay is a great source for anything. There are lots of great dealers with websites, too. I would heavily recommend, if you can manage it, to go to any model shows you can find and find out if there are any clubs in your area and go to the meetings. Meeting up with like minded people is the best. You will find friendship, tips, hints, sources for stuff and mostly inspiration. I belong to a great club here in Minneapolis and can't imagine being without it. I have seen over the years a number of younger builders start coming to our meetings and the first models they bring are OK but nothing special. They typically show constant improvement and after a few years they start winning contests! I am sure you can do the same. Good luck to you!
  21. I offer this up for inspiration purposes. This is box stock. I did lower the back end a little to get the right look. Good luck on this project. Keep us posted. How about a 500K hearse next?
  22. Looks like Cole is in the lead so far with a few other honorable mentions. That Avalanche/Escalade thing with all of the cladding is exquisitely awful! Now, Harry! You are dissing one of my favorites! The Fiat Multipla is a classic! It is the finest toaster on wheels and I would love to own one. The Aurora ( I believe that wa the name) safety car designed and built by a Priest is definitely world class UGLY! It is a miracle that it survived. Of course anything that ugly would never get used and worn out because no-one would be seen in it!
  23. Vignale, usually known for some pretty exotic ferraris and other Italian sports cars did make a VW Beetle! This went to Mexico when new! Here is a Saoutchik Bugatti T50. The Bugatti is about a '32 but the body was built in the early '50s. Same deal here but a T57SC (same chassis as the Atlantic coupe) with a mid '50s Ghia Body.
  24. I found these recently. I hope you retain your lunch. Isn't this racy? I have no idea what sort of econo-box it started as but it is not an improvement! It looks like doors 2 and 3 are suicide which I would certainly commit if I was seen in this thing! The nose looks like U-Haul colors! Who will haul this away?
