GM on the critical list
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't understand all the hand-wringing and debate. The answer should be clear to everyone. We live in a country whose economic/political system is based on capitalism. In a capitalistic economy, a business either succeeds and turns a profit... or if they can't do that, they close up shop. In other words, you're either in the game... or you get out. That's how capitalism works. That's how it's worked here for the past 230 years. In a socialist country, the government runs the economy. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Sure, if GM goes belly-up, a lot of people will be looking for work. But is it fair to demand that everyone else (that is, all of us US taxpayers who do not work for GM or gain any benefit from them) to be unwillingly made their savior by propping up a failing business with our tax dollars? It doesn't matter HOW GM got here... bad management, poor product planning. The point is, they're on the verge of collapse, mostly as a result of their own ineptness and shortsightedness. And don't tell me US regulations killed GM. EVERY car sold in the US has to meet those regulations, not just the cars that GM builds! Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, VW, BMW, Mercedes, etc. all seem to be able to deal with US regulations...GM should have been able to as well. Either we are a capitalistic society... or a socialist one. Time to decide, America... because you can't be both. -
After reading the topic title I thought this might be a Viagra commercial... Very nice work. A really cool looking model, seldom seen... and extremely well done.

GM shares closed today at under $3, the lowest value in 50+ years. It's kind of scary to watch this once-dominant company, literally the engine of America's manufacturing might for so many years, wither away and die right before our eyes. Where will it end?

Well, that's definitely not what I expected to see under the hood!!! Dare to be different!

Yet another 69 Nova to add to the mix
Harry P. replied to Irvin Arter Jr.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
It's looking very good so far... -
It's important to keep in mind that any kit review you read is basically that author's opinion. The review of the Nova kit that appeared in the magazine was the opinion of the author, not a "carved in stone" statement. Certainly there is room for more than one view on the subject...and the fact that Alan's letter was published in the first place should tell you that MCM tries to give equal time to as many opinions as possible. Obviously it would have been easy simply to not publish that letter... but the fact that it appeared in the magazine tells you that all opinions are welcome and equally valid. "Fair and balanced"... right?

There might be some sort of substance on the body that's keeping the Bondo from sticking... like grease, wax, etc. Any kind of foreign substance like that would affect the adhesion of the Bondo. Also, try sanding the area you want to cover with coarse sandpaper. The Bondo will grab onto the rough surface better than smooth plastic.

Lots of photos here (scoll to the bottom): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks...A1%7C240%3A1318

The 66 and 67 looked the same on the outside, but the 66 has that really cool interior with the full-length console and 4 bucket seats.

What do you make of this one? The answer: MODEL!

Happy Birthday...to me!
Harry P. replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, me and Teddy hung out a lot. Then one day he got himself one of those new "cars" and took off. My horse wasn't fast enough to catch him... that was the last I saw of him... Just remember... one day you'll be this old too... and you'll be sitting on your front porch with the hose, yelling at all the punks to get off your lawn! -
Very cool! The first generation Chargers have always been my favorite... you're doing a fantastic job!

Happy Birthday...to me!

Hey Kevin... I think I have a pack of gum in my pocket older than you! Heck, I'm so old that I remember gas at 39 cents a gallon! And no, I didn't know Abe Lincoln personally... -

Polishing is the last step, after the last coat of paint has been applied (either color or clear, depending on your preference).

"Holy Grail" Models?
Harry P. replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looks like Christmas came early for little Bobby... -
I've never been to Atlanta... might be fun! As far as a barcode, good question! I wondered that myself. How about it, Gregg?

Oh, and remember that "carrot on a stick" deal... If the subscription numbers go up enough, MCM goes to 12 issues/year instead of 9... with no increase in the subscription rate! Who else is gonna give you a deal like that? Who's looking out for modelers? MCM is, that's who!
-
Subscribe, everyone! You'll pay less per issue and have them come to you instead of having to go hunt them down! (PS: the missing price on the last issue was a typo... or is that an "un typo"?)

Yours isn't showing.

Happy Birthday...to me!

Let's just say I'm at the point where getting another year older isn't something I look forward to... like when I was 12 or 13... -

Hey, thanks! (but I think I'll need the other side,too...you know, in case they turn it over at the store to see if it's real) -
I'm up! I'm up! Well, I guess I didn't fool a whole lot of you this time. Like most of you knew, it's REAL! Next ROM coming MONDAY! I'll see if I can dig up a harder one for you!

It's not fair (or accurate) to make a blanket statement like "Revell kits are better than AMT kits" or vice versa, because it just isn't always true. Some Revell kits are better than some AMT kits, and some AMT kits are better than some Revell kits. It all depends on which particular kits you're talking about. And like Raisin said, you can't compare AMT kits that were originally tooled 40+ years ago to a Revell kit that was tooled up a week ago...that's apples and oranges. You can't just make an overall assumption that one brand is always better than the other.
