  1. Neat idea...but doesn't the need to glue the plastic blocks in place in order for the hinge to work kind of limit the "trial and error" to basically one shot?
  2. Masking tape: labor intensive. Plus after you apply the tape you still have to mask the body and paint the "vinyl". Much better/easier/faster way: paint alone. 1. Apply thin strips of masking tape or "Chartpak" type tape to represent the "seams". 2. Mask off the body and spray the top from a distance, in order to create orange peel. Yup, this is one time where you WANT orange peel! Simple, huh? Why mess with masking tape, vinyl top "kits", texture paint, etc.? All you need is a can of semigloss black (or whatever color you want your top to be).
  3. Uh...I believe that works no matter how old you are.
  4. The "Hosted on Fotki" link goes to the Fotki home page, not any specific photo album. BTW...cool model. The 64 Galaxie is a favorite of mine, an all-time classic design.
  5. Last call for submissions for the next issue. I'm putting together the July 2008 issue as we speak. Any others that come in later will be put on file for possible use down the road.
  6. How about this one? Real or model? The answer: MODEL!
  7. Finally got you good!!! It's a model! Next ROM coming MONDAY!
  8. That's fine. I'm keeping all submisions for possible use in upcoming issues.
  9. I thought I'd bring this to the top again, just as a reminder. I'll be doing the Sketchpad layout this weekend, so if you want to be considered, get your art to me ASAP!
  10. Nice clean work so far. The engine looks great!
  11. The GM "Universelle" was a much better looking vehicle than the thing from Car Model... It was one of the forerunners of the modern minivan.

How about submitting something for possible publication in "Sketchpad"???? Did you see my post in the "General" section?
  13. I'd say yes...it's an art form. Why not?
  14. If you want to mail me an original, we can work something out. Email me or PM me.
  15. Lots of alternatives...I prefer acrylics for brush painting small parts because they cover well, dry fast, don't show brush marks and cleanup is easy...all you need is water. I also use lacquers and metalizers when the situation calls for them. As a general rule I'd stay away from the little square bottles of Testor's enamel. Nasty stuff. It thickens in the bottle quickly (you always have to keep adding thinner to the paint to keep it brushable). It takes forever to dry, brushmarks are a problem, and if you get the slightest bit of paint on the threads of the cap and/or neck of the bottle they can be almost IMPOSSIBLE to open if you haven't used a particular bottle in a while. Enamels are definitely NOT worth the hassle.
  16. Production schedule is out of my control...that's the Big Kahuna's department...
  17. I have to give a big "ditto" to all the above comments. Fantastic work!
  18. Keep 'em coming! And remember...I only have room for 4-5 images per "Sketchpad", so don't get bummed if your illustration isn't used immediately. I'll keep all submissions on file for possible future issues...maybe even a future "Sketchpad" contest, if I can twist Gregg's arm hard enuff...
  19. Yeah, he built something like that years ago. He called it some French sounding name like "Internationelle" or something. It was weird, but not nearly as weird as this thing!
  20. The "Sketchpad" feature in your favorite model mag is looking for your art... Next issue (July), we'll be featuring YOUR artwork! Anyone and everyone is welcome to submit their best automotive art for possible publication in the next "Sketchpad". We'll be featuring 4-5 illustrations, each from a different artist. The "rules" are simple: 1. The art must be your own original creation. ALL formats are eligible (pencil, airbrush, electronic, stone carvings on cave walls...whatever!) 2. Your submitted image must be high enough quality and resolution for print (300 dpi preferred, 150 dpi minimum). 3. Your image must be submitted electronically (no originals mailed to me please!!!) File formats accepted: Jpeg, tiff, bmp, approx. 4x6 inches or so. Don't worry about exact size...I'll take care of that. Submit 2-3 of your best pieces to me at harrypristo@netzero.net. and put "Sketchpad" in the subject line. If I pick your image to use, you'll need to supply me with a short paragraph of text...your name, a little bit about yourself, a little info on the illustration, etc., that will be published along with your image. I need your images ASAP...in the next few days would be ideal. Send me your art and you might see it published in the next Model Cars!
  21. That thing is so ugly it makes an Aztec look good!!!
  22. Oh yeah! Back from when NASCAR was still cool, and the cars were actually "stock cars", more or less...and you could tell the difference between a Ford and a Chevy because they really WERE Fords and Chevies...not the anonymous, identical billboard blobs they are today. Think how cool NASCAR could be if they went back to their roots and raced REAL cars, like they used to, not the hyper-engineered, multi-million dollar robot "cars" they run today. Real cars, real "cheating" (like in the good old days!) and real bragging rights if your brand won! Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge! (and no "Toyotas"!)
  23. Let's go back to 2 wheels again. Real or model? Look closely... The answer: MODEL!
  24. You wouldn't think that feature was so "cool" when you get into that thing after it's been parked in the sun for several hours...
