  1. I have a double-action suction feed Paasche and Badger. Both are 20+ years old, both have many, many miles on them, and aside from new needles and tips, both work like new.
  2. And that house in the background is pretty cool, too!
  3. You guys were too smart for me this time. You're right...it's REAL! Next ROM coming Monday!
  4. I'm a graphic artist/designer/illustrator. I design and create brochures, magazine ads, web sites, posters...basically all types of print and online communications. I'm also a writer (have written the copy for many of the ads and printed pieces I've designed). I also do logo design, corporate ID packages, illustrations for product packaging, labels, ads, etc., etc. I've even designed the logo and uniforms for a local Minor League baseball team! I've been at it all my life, except for a few unrelated summer jobs when I was a kid. Basically I never gave up my box of crayons when I grew up!
  5. Part-time goalie for a javelin team??? What's that?
  6. The federal government has been telling citizens, both northern and southern, what to do from day one! You think the government wasn't telling the northern states what they could or could not do??? The Federal government has jurisdiction over ALL the states, north and south. And again, if I remember my grade school history, the Civil War came about because the southern states, whose economy was agriculturally based (i.e., they used slave laborers on their farms and cotton fields), were at odds with the northern states, whose economy was industrially based, and where slavery wasn't practiced. As new states joined the union, the question of whether they should enter as "free" states or "slave" states always arose. The Abolitionist movement was gathering strehgth at this time, and the "underground railway" and similar entities began to form as a way to lead slaves to freedom in the north. The tensions and resentment that the south felt for the wealthier north (wealthier because most of the big cities and big manufacturing was based there), combined with the south's use of slave labor in conflict with the north's opposition to such, eventually boiled over and culminated with the southern states electing to form their own government and secede from the Union. And like I said, I believe the actual "war" began when the southern forces fired on Ft. Sumter. All of this has nothing to do with model cars, of course, but I'm as ready as anyone if you want to talk history. (edited for typos, not content!)
  7. Do I sense a little resentment there? (I see you're from SC). Remember...the South wasn't forced out of the Union by the North. In fact, Lincoln tried his best to STOP the secession. But the South wanted out, and withdrew from the Union. (And if I recall my grade school history correctly, fired the first shot.)
  8. Now there's a perspective you don't get every day. Like any well-known symbol, the Confederate flag means different things to different groups. It can be a very emotion-triggering symbol to many...and then again there are those to whom it doesn't mean anything much at all. It all depends on from what angle you're looking at the question.
  9. Wow...that's one heck of a long summer...
  10. A "rock quarry and asphalt tech"?
  11. Actually, if I can elaborate...see if this makes sense. I'd break the site down this way: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Let's Talk" section: • General (including "new guy here" type posts) • Kit Reviews • Tips, Tricks, Ideas • Rants 'n' Raves • Real or Model • Where's Waldo? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Showcase" section: • Rod/Custom/Street machine (also lowriders, "donks", etc.) • Sports and Exotic (Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos, Jag, Viper, 'vette, etc.) • Showroom Stock (All "stock" builds from grandma's sedan to hemi 'cudas) • Traditional Hot Rods • Race/Competition (NASCAR, Indy, Grand Prix, dirt track, drag, etc.) • Police/Fire/Emergency • Trucks • Large Scale • Resin • Dioramas • Auto Art • Everything Else ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "References, Links and Marketplace" section: • Swap, Trade or Free • Wanted! • 1:1 Reference photos and links • Contests and Shows • Helpful Links ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Ask Model Cars" section ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Model Car Racing" section ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you can see, a few redundant sections have been combined or eliminated...yet EVERYONE's area of interest is represented. Makes sense to me.
  12. Geez, you guys are WAY over-analyzing this. Think about it: Currently, ANYTHING could pop up in "On the Workbench" and "Under Glass". However, if we had clearly defined areas to post in, we would all be able to find topics of interest much easier. Nobody said anything about EXCLUDING or eliminating anyone's particular preference...only organizing our posts. My specific suggestions cover every possible area of car models...and there would be an "Everything Else" catchall category just to make sure nothing is discriminated against or eliminated. Obviously every member would still be free to check out any area of the forum, but if he/she has a particular special interest, specific sections would make it much easier to find specific subjects. An analogy: at the library, the books are arranged by subject matter, to make finding a particular book easier. However, that in no way puts any limits or restrictions on which books you're allowed to borrow! Sectioning the forum would simply make it easier to navigate, it would NOT "discriminate" against anyone's interests.
  13. I agree. I'd suggest axing the "On the Workbench" and "Under Glass" sections, and instead have several specific categories to post both WIPs and finished models. Not too many categories...just enough to cover the spectrum. 1. Rods/Customs/Street machines...this would also be the place for lowriders, DONKS (cringe!!!), etc. 2. Sports/Exotic...Porsches, Ferraris, Lambo, Jag, Corvette, Viper, etc. 3. Showroom Stock (includes all "stock" models...both grocery getters AND muscle. As long as it was available from a dealer, it goes in this area. 4. Traditional Hot Rods. 5. Race cars...NASCAR, drag, Indy, Grand Prix, dirt track, etc. If the car is built expressly for competition, it goes here. 6. Police/Fire/Emergency. 7. Everything Else...monster trucks, demolition derby, whatever oddball car that doesn't fit anywhere else. And of course I'd keep the truck section. That's how I'd break it down if I was King of the World...
  14. I use both of them, and I can't see any difference in the end result. It does seem that Tamiya clear needs more coats to get that nice smooth shine, but the final result with either one looks great.
  15. I hope you're kidding about the "DONK" theme...
  16. Real or not so real? The answer: REAL!
  17. Man, this site is growing like a weed! Nice to see all the new people hopping on! Hey Gregg...you might want to consider a cover charge and two drink minimum.... ka-CHING!!!
  18. Luck???!!! You're not supposed to be relying on luck...you're supposed to be using your amazing powers of perception, logic and reason...
  19. Don't know why, but your images are very dark. Is this more like reality?
  20. Hah!!! Got you this time. It's REAL! Next ROM coming Monday!
  21. Interesting comments, Jim. Now I see why Revell would balk at paying Goodyear a licensing fee, seeing as how Goodyear used to pay THEM! And basically, the Goodyear name on kit tires and decals actually amounts to a "plug" for Goodyear. Sure looks to me not like a case of Goodyear "protecting" their brand, but an example of simple greed on Goodyear's part.
  22. The figure in your first photo looks an awful lot like Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen..."Cadillac Ranch"...get it?
  23. Send me your address. I'll make a copy and send you one.
  24. Fellow forum member Skip Jordan sent me a CD filled with all sorts of reference photos on the car. If you like, I can mail you a copy. Email me if you're interested.
  25. All I can say is "WOW!" That's some mighty impressive building!
