  1. Apparently the trick is to use very hot water...not so hot that it'll distort the kit parts, but as hot as possible. Then you have to let the clear parts soak in the dye...it's not just a quick dip. I'm not sure how long the soak should be, but I'd put the part in the dye and check the progress every couple of minutes. It may take quite a while for the dye to get the "glass" as tinted as you want. The good thing about this process is, that unlike spraying transparent paint on the kit glass, the dye actually gets into the plastic...it won't scratch or rub off. Like I said, I've never actually tried this technique but I've read about it. Another way to go to get "tinted" glass is to use colored acetate sheet. Of course it depends on whether or not you can find colored acetate in the shade you want your "glass' to be.
  2. I haven't done it myself, but I've seen articles about using RIT to dye kit glass. Apparently it works pretty well.
  3. Whoa...easy there, big guy!
  4. How can you see where you're going when you drive that thing???!!! WATCH OUT!!! Little old lady at 12 o'clock!!!
  5. It sure beats "The wheels on the bus go round and round"...
  6. "Radar Love" came out in '73!!! How's THAT for messin' with your head?
  7. Not if you give us 50% off!!!
  8. I remember building the Mercedes 540K as a kid. It was a really impressive model...lots of parts, very well engineered and cleanly molded in pale yellow (body parts) and black. Those were (and still are) great kits!
  9. Do all of us get the "family" discount?
  10. It's a (67?) Olds Toronado. One of the first front-wheel-drive cars offered by the "Big Three".
  11. Something tells me that "scale model cars" and "the great outdoors" don't mix...
  12. Yeah, that kit is a real dog...but with enough TLC it's actually possible to build a pretty presentable model. It takes a lot of work...but it IS possible. Too bad it's the only Auburn kit available. Sure would be nice to have a good kit of such a cool car!
  13. Outdoor model contest???!!! Never heard of such a thing. Bad idea, for obvious reasons. As they say...live and learn.
  14. I've been following this thread from the beginning, and I have a few observations. First of all, I appreciate the fact that we've been allowed to carry on this discussion for as long as we have! Lucky for us, Gregg is a pretty laid-back dude...this thread wouldn't have lasted NEARLY as long on some other forums..so a big thumbs up to Gregg for letting this one go on as long as it has. Second, it's obvious that we have quite a few well-spoken, thoughtful members here. Even though this issue is very emotional, for the most part we've been civil, and many of the posts made here are very well stated, IMO. But it seems to me that this is one of those issues that can be debated forever without ever coming to a real "answer" or agreement. So I suggest we "police ourselves" and agree to end this one. By now I'm sure everyone who has wanted to weigh in on the subject already has done so, so any further debate isn't really going to accomplish much. So what do you say, guys? Back to models?
  15. We're on the premium forum plan...
  16. Nope. Just red "X"s...
  17. Now there's some air-tight logic!!! I got you guys good on this one... the car is REAL. And it does look like a little Photoshopping was done on the background, but it wasn't me! The photo is just as I found it. Next ROM coming Monday!
  18. Now that is one majorly cool model! Nice detail on the engine. The ignition wire looms look great. Heck, everything looks great! Very nice indeed.
  19. I build all kinds. Whatever strikes my fancy. I've done factory stock, muscle cars, drag, custom, street machines, hot rods, rat rods, trucks, classics, motorcycles, you name it. About the only type of model I have absolutely no interest in is NASCAR (no offense, NASCAR guys, but they're all the same car, just different stickers!!!) In the real world, MOPAR!!!!
  20. I think that your new avatar is pretty cool. That's exactly the point of having an avatar...it's your own personal signature.
  21. Cool stuff in there...thanks!
  22. BTW...if any of you want a really cool, custom made, one-of-a-kind original avatar...let me know. I know someone who can do that for you...
  23. Aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........that's better!
  24. I know you didn't mean any harm. I think most of us don't realize that all of our avatars go into the communal pool and anyone is able to use someone else's avatar without realizing that they did so. I sure didn't know that! Thanks for giving me my identity back!!!
