  1. You got it exactly backwards! The background is real...it's the deuce that's phony! Well, not "phony", but a model. It's the 1/8 deuce from Revell. Next ROM coming MONDAY!
  2. That is just TOO COOL! I love an old MOPAR, unmarked or otherwise!
  3. Hey John...welcome aboard! It's always great to have an artist join up!
  4. Totally scratchbuilt...that's cool! You say you're an artist...any auto art you'd care to post in the Auto Art section???
  5. Of course, it makes the thread a little strange, with responses to an "invisible" poster...but that's the price you pay for a little sanity...
  6. I've had that kit sitting in its box, half built, for years. I never got any further than the engine/chassis. For some reason they put the hollow side of the frame rails on the bottom, where they're visible on the finished model...so they all have to be filled with strip styrene. A major PITA, and could have easily been avoided if they would have simply engineered the chassis with the open slots on the other side!
  7. Wouldn't it be easier to just go to Radio Shack and get a 20 foot phone cable extension???
  8. Gee Bill...not too shabby for a doddering old fart...
  9. That's all we see because THAT'S HOW YOU'RE PRESENTING YOURSELF!!! Whenever you participate in an online forum, all the rest of us have to go by are your posts. You can hardly blame others for assuming you're a smartass punk, because that's exactly the picture of yourself that you're putting out there. And by the way, respect is never gotten by demanding it. It's gotten by earning it.
  10. Judged by Gregg???? Uh, does Gregg know that??? No photography skills? Since photos are all we would have to judge from, that seems like a pretty bad idea. I think you'd better think this through a little further before you issue your "challenge", because what you have on the table right now isn't workable. And a little friendly word of advice: there are plenty of "old guys" here that could blow you out of the water so bad you wouldn't know what hit you. (that's just this old guy "talkin' smack" )...
  11. Is it real or a model? The answer: MODEL!
  12. Comment from the Cranky Old Fart Dept: I love the subtle look you gave the car, but the huge wheels don't add to the overall effect. Instead, they draw way too much attention to themselves. I'd love to see this one with smaller, less "in your face" wheels. Just my subjective opinion...don't hate me! Nice smooth build, though. I like it.
  13. A huge AMEN to that! The single biggest step you can take to improve your paint finishes is to DUMP THE ENAMELS and use either acrylics or lacquers. Enamels are finicky, extremely slow to dry, and basically a pain to work with. On your next model, try acrylics or lacquers, for the reasons Jeff stated above. I guarantee you'll NEVER go back to "model paint" (enamels) again. Personally I swear by DupliColor, but there are many other brands. Do yourself a huge favor and check them out.
  14. ok, that's better. At least I fooled some of you this time! It's REAL! Next ROM coming MONDAY!
  15. I agree with Bluesman Mark...you need to develop a thicker skin. Donks are probably THE most polarizing style of car model currently out there. People either love them or HATE them. Such an extreme style doesn't leave much room for sublety...they basically scream out "HEY, LOOK AT ME", and a lot of people don't like that. So a lot of people are going to react negatively to that sort of "in your face" style. But you already know that. You KNOW that donks are going to stir up some emotional responses from people. Everyone has their own opinion, some just express it in a less "politically correct" way. But another person's opinion shouldn't be enough to make you shut yourself down...that's silly. The opinions expressed here are all part of what makes a forum a forum. It's part of the deal. You have to either be able to deal with them, or don't post. But either way, you can't let another person's opinion dictate what you're going to build...or not build. Unpack yer boxes, sit down and get busy.
  16. I hope so too. The HH board is a disorganized mess!
  17. Go to your "My Controls" page. At the very bottom is a dropdown list of skins. As far as more smileys...this board runs with software that's been designed by a third party, so there's really no way to change or add things (I think). Gregg is the tech-head...he would know better, but I think it's pretty much set the way it is.
  18. Don't think so. Your log-in name is tied to your membership. The only way to log on with a different name is to create a new membership using a different log-in name.
  19. One more thing to remember: Most cars have slanted roof pillars. Therefore, if you cut a section out, the top panel will be too narrow or too short (or both) to fit on the new lower posts. In that case you have to cut the roof panel in half lengthwise and widthwise, and add styrene sheet filler strips, in order to enlarge the top enough so that the cut pillars match up again. BEFORE: AFTER (with filler strips added):
  20. It all depends on the specific model you're working on. Many times the kit glass can simply be trimmed, either along the top or bottom edges, and it'll fit the new, shorter openings just fine. Other times the old glass won't work anymore, because the chop has altered the shape of the window openings too much. In that case, you can make new "glass" out of acetate sheet. Each time you chop a top it's a "case-by-case" basis as far as how best to get the windows to fit.
  21. 1/87? I guess "elf" is the perfect name for it!
  22. Love that chassis detail!!!
  23. That looks like the German Amphicar from the 60s!!!
  24. Since the cooling system is pressurized, the radiator can be placed anywhere, theoretically (as long as it has access to airflow, either via outside air being drawn across it or by mechanical (fan) means...or both. So the answer to your question is yes.
  25. Sure there is. The biggest, most well-stocked hobby shop in the world is right there. And it delivers to your door. It's called the internet. PS: Hobby Lobby coupons are available on their website. You can print out as many as you like, but only one coupon per purchase is allowed, so if you want to use more than one you have to make multiple purchases.
