  1. I agree with the concept of trophy hunting being cruel and inhumane and just plain inexcusable. I agree with that concept. I don't defend or endorse trophy hunting. What I don't agree with is jumping on this guy without having all of the facts at hand. It may turn out that he was fully aware of what he was doing. But at this point, it's equally possible that he was counting on the expertise of the two locals he hired, and it was they who misled him. A little early to condemn the man, IMO. That's all I'm saying.
  2. Ok, here's one way to look at it: The guy is a jerk. "Trophy hunting" is wrong, he knew what he did was wrong but did it anyway. He's a lowlife scum. Here's another way to look at it: The guy bought the license and hired local guides in an effort to keep his hunt legal, he had no idea who "Cecil" was, and he was under the impression that the hunt was entirely legal. So... without knowing which of these two scenarios is the real story, how can anyone pass judgement? Sure, we all have our own personal opinions on the concept of "trophy hunting"... and for me, I think it's inexcusable. But none of us know enough facts to condemn the dentist. At least not at this point.
  3. Very cool, but you painted things that should really be plated. Google image search is your friend...
  4. Ok, I'm going to throw an actual fact at you vs. gut reaction. Ready? Lions are not on the endangered species list. Now I'm not saying that makes hunting them ok. Just want you to know the facts before you spout off. Just curious as to how you are so sure of your "facts" when everyone else doesn't know all the details. Seriously, man... you need to learn all the facts before you go bloviating. You don't know whether or not the dentist knew about Cecil. You don't know whether or not it was the guides who lured Cecil into open territory. YOU DON'T KNOW. You're just spouting off without having all the facts of the incident. Sure, you're entitled to your opinion, but don't you think it would be better to know the facts before indicting the dentist? Or do facts not matter in your world?
  5. Seeing as how Lee posted this in 2007, my guess is that he's already found what he's looking for. (to misquote Bono)...
  6. A tip for you: I see that there is a lot of "silvering" on the "340" hood decal. That's because you placed the decal on a flat finish. A flat finish isn't smooth, so the decal is only sticking to the microscopic "high points" of the paint, causing that look where you can really see the clear part of the decal. Solution: If you ever need to apply a decal onto a flat finish (like a flat black hood), paint the part gloss black. Apply the decal, then cover everything with a coat of Testors Dullcote. Decals adhere much better to a glossy finish than a flat finish.
  7. OMG! A General Lee thread that hasn't gone off the rails! Congratulations, gentlemen. Maybe there is hope... Carry on...
  8. My intention is to make the windows operational (roll up and down via the crank), and to make the door latches operational also. Both of these features exist in the kit, however, since I am constructing completely new doors, I don't know how much of the kit's window and latch mechanisms I can carry over and import into the woody's doors. I was looking at the various kit pieces that make up the window and latch mechanisms... it's pretty complex (especially the door latches), and I just don't know if I will be able to pull this off. Stay tuned...
  9. I agree with you that "trophy hunting" is despicable. There is no justification for it, IMO. But I have to give the dentist the benefit of the doubt here. He paid for a hunting license, he paid for two "professional" Zimbabwean guides. Those two are the ones who should have known better than to lure Cecil away from protected land and out into the open. I don't think the dentist had any idea that he was hunting a tagged, protected lion. Trophy hunting? Bad. But legal. However, luring Cecil out of a protected area was definitely wrong. The real bad guys here are the Zimbabwean guides, IMO.
  10. Tulio... I didn't know you could build a model that wasn't a Ford! I really like the interior/exterior colors you picked. Beautiful work by you, as always.
  11. I just bought 21 small brass hinges for my woody (two packs of 12)... which will be more than enough (I need 3 hinges per door, 2 for the tailgate and 2 for the liftgate, total 16). I bought the hinges for my 1/16 scale RR woody from this same seller. Price? $3.64, includes shipping from China! Hinges just like this in a 4-pack cost $5 at Hobby Lobby. God bless the internet and God bless ebay! For any of you who still have never shopped online, you really don't know what you're missing.
  12. How did you get the Bugatti lights? Buy them a la carte on ebay?
  13. there are two on e bay right now for under 1k That price will go waaaaaaay up.
  14. That one I know - Marshal Tucker Band's "Heard it in a Love Song" - isn't it? ........?
  15. "I'm the kind of man who likes to get away... Likes to start dreamin' about tomorrow today"..
  16. Ooooh, Bugatti! The one Pocher I've never built and have been trying to snag forever. But price$ keep holding me back.
  17. No problem... we can keep playing as long as there's interest. BTW... Culture Club (Boy George), Karma Chameleon. Speaking of Boy George... if you can get past his outrageous looks and outfits and makeup, he's actually a pretty talented guy. I really like this relatively new song (2014) of his. Like I said... disregard the visuals, just listen. He's come a ways since Culture Club...
  18. Got the headlights installed. The kit headlight buckets are soldered to a plated brass "stem" that is supposed to fit into a hole in the fender via friction fit. But as usual when Pocher engineered friction fits, the male part is too big to fit into the female part, so I had to ream out the fender holes. I actually reamed them out bigger than needed, then filled the holes with epoxy before setting the lights in place. That way I had enough "slop" in the fit to be able to adjust the light stems to be perfectly plumb before the epoxy set up. The horn grilles are stamped metal parts; I added a black wash to emphasize the slots and make them appear to be actually open. I also got the framework for the top done. This model is so big that it's too big to fit onto my photo sweep, so pardon the messy background. Now on to the doors...
  19. Super clean and very well done. but you could improve it by adding a black wash on the wheels to bring out the detail.
  20. More likely Brandi. Or Candi.
  21. My year just keeps getting better. Just got a recall notice from Ford... defective airbag. Sigh... Yep. But the good news is my Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is working again... which means my ransom payment has been processed and I'm good to go for another year. But man oh man, what a scam this "cloud" thing has turned out to be. I was truly taken for a fool by Adobe. If I had any idea that this is how the cloud service works, I would never have signed up. I know this will be a can of worms and I don't work for any software company...but... The software company sold you a license to "legally" use their software for a specified amount of time (when you "bought into the cloud"). But I bought and paid for my Adobe software long before I joined the "cloud." If I buy a software program and install it on my computer, I should be able to access and use that software forever. I paid for it. But the way Adobe does it, when you join the "cloud" they take back ownership of the software, and if I don't pay up every year, they take the software I paid for away from me. And that is just plain wrong. they may not let you down grade the software either, you won't know till you try uninstalling and then trying to install the version you purchased. Yeah, that may be the only way out of this "cloud" trap.
  22. The front emblem and "OLDSMOBILE" letters are bad, and the roof is too flat; it should have a noticeable "bulge' to it. But the important thing is... you fooled them!
  23. Well, since I'm on the playing end this time, I'll say there's something here that very obviously says "model."
  24. The good news is, with that flat tire at least it won't be driven around town and be seen by the local populace...
