Yup. Because, like weeds, you pull one out and a new one pops up somewhere else. It's an endless battle.

Ron, thanks for that refreshing dose of common sense.

Ok, now it's time for some woodworking. Like the 1/16 scale "test" woody I posted several weeks ago, I'm starting with these pieces. They go over the rear fenders...

Here's my scratchbuilt shift gate, all Spaz Stixed and all...

Yeah, that really is a cool looking material. Looks like real leather. I'm glad I found it!

The military modelers are probably a more mature bunch. I doubt they start throwing hissy fits if they see a German WWII model plane with swastikas on it. But for some reason, it seems like the model car hobby has more than its fair share of immature types.

Ok, guys, here's why the thread was locked. First of all, I had to delete a bunch of posts that were nothing but foolish PC nonsense and/or childish "schoolyard bully" type comments that actual grown adult men really shouldn't still be relying on to get their point across. And then I locked the thread because I have better things to do with my time than sit here and babysit a thread to make sure no more idiocy gets posted. I just don't have the time (or desire) to be a forum babysitter 24/7. I do this job voluntarily. On my pwn time. For zero pay. And I'm not complaining... just explaining. Honestly, there's only so much time I'm willing to spend cleaning up messes here. As it is, I probably spend more time moderating here than all the other moderators combined ever did. So I'm putting in my time, and doing my job... but this is not my full-time job. So for the above reasons, I locked the thread rather than keep it open and constantly go back and keep cleaning it up. I didn't delete it... the pics are still there for anyone to see the model. You just can't make any more dumb comments on the thread. And BTW... stupid stuff like this is exactly why the SA forum banned the GL altogether. That decision is looking better and better to me. I always thought (or at least wanted to believe) that our members were above that sort of thing, but apparently we have our share of knuckleheads here, just like over at SA.

No. It's no fun, believe me. Anyway... here is the upholstered front seat. I have posted my technique for building/upholstering seats before, so no need to rehash that here. Note the little cutout on the right side cushion to make room for the shifter. Seat shell/bulkhead will be painted black. Not sure about upholstery color yet. The car will have black fenders, sage green cowl, and of course the maple/mahogany colors of the body. I could leave the upholstery (and interior door panels) the color of the material as is... or go with black, deep red, or dark green. One of those four choices for sure, and right now I'm leaning to dark green.

The toeboard part of the floorboard had three individual cutouts to accommodate the shafts of the gas, brake, and clutch pedals. But these cutouts were spaced differently than the actual spacing of the three pedals, so I cut away the portion of the toeboard around the pedals, then made a cardboard template, and finally a new toeboard with slots aligned to the pedals, using the same corrugated styrene sheet as I used on the rest of the floor. I also made the new toeboard bigger... there would have been a big gap between the firewall and the kit floorboard... this new, extended-forward toeboard gets rid of that gap. And here is that new toeboard installed, and cutouts made for the brake lever and shifter. I will be using the kit's front seat frame/bulkhead panel, but not the kit upholstery, as I don't like how the kit seats are engineered. I'll redo the seats and upholstery from scratch... Since the woody body will be slightly wider than the kit body, I needed to add some material to the bulkhead (the ends of which is where the door posts will attach). I also added some square styrene rod as reinforcement between the seat bottom and the bulkhead for added strength.

Once again, I have a lot of progress to report. I can build just fine without glasses or contacts, but seeing the computer screen clearly is the problem. I can only take so much time on the computer before I give up in frustration, but I will try to post new photos tomorrow. The doctor said I could maybe start wearing my contacts again by the weekend. I sure hope so. I miss them!

But the Beatles didn't use a Leslie for organ. They played guitar through it. A lot of their "trippy" songs included George and/or John recording their guitars through a Leslie. And of course, the real genius behind all of that studio trickery was producer George Martin, many times referred to as the "fifth Beatle."

A person who wants to build an accurate replica of the General Lee will have to include the Confederate battle flag on the roof. It's a model car, people. Not a political statement! If a modeler builds a WWII Stuka bomber with swastika markings, does that mean the builder is a Nazi? Obviously not. Please stop with the insane political correctness nonsense. It's bad enough that our political so-called "leaders" are immersed in this krap. Let's not stoop to their level here.

You Gregs crack me up...

The Beatles did some pretty impressive work using a Leslie.

Ken, thanks for stepping in and keeping the game going. BTW... other than this looks like a shot taken at Pebble Beach, I have no clue. This game is much harder when you're a player!

Thanks, guys. I just got back from the opthamologist about an hour ago. I have undergone all sorts of tests, lab cultures, etc., and the good news is that all of the really scary stuff has been ruled out, He said my corneas are looking much better than they were a few days ago when I last saw him, and I should be back to normal in 5-7 days. Let me tell you, that was the best news I've heard in a long time! Thanks to all who sent their good wishes. Anything involving my eyes and vision really freaks me out. I was very nervous there for a time. But fingers crossed, I should be ok.

what's the scoop on the chat feature?
Harry P. replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Never. We once had the live chat feature. You can guess what happened. People used it to fight, swear, and make trouble. Gregg closed it down. Pretty sad that a group of so-called "adults" acted like obnoxious children. -
Or even easier, repair it and "chrome" it with Spaz Stix spray.

I think that's what they're saying. "Goin' to Lost Wages (Las Vegas)... Lost Wages... goin' to Lost Wages"...

I don't play (wish I could!), but back in the '80s I did artwork for the bodies of a series of custom Dean Z (Dean Zelinski) guitars. If you have one, it's probably a collector's item by now. BTW... Dean is the guy who created the spinning fur guitars for ZZTop. BTW II... back in the '80s when I first met Dean, his business partner (can't for the life of me remember his name) looked exactly like Rod Stewart! I mean even the blonde "just got out of bed" haircut and all. BTW III... at the time Dean was married to a Playboy bunny, Again, met her, talked with her, can't remember her name. Wow... so many parts of my life that are fading away...

Hmmm, didn't know that. I remember him from "Cheers."
-
"Andy Griffin?" You mean Andy Griffith? He died several years ago.

They have all been moved "down here" becaue they are off topic and have nothing to do with model cars. Get it?

Until I get my eye problems worked out, ROM/Auto ID will be "on vacation." But never fear, loyal fans... we will be back. ROM/Auto ID has fans from all over the world. We have several people from Australia, The UK, Germany, and other places, including South Africa, who regularly play the game, and I don't want to disappoint you guys. So hang in there, be patient. The games will resume soon.
