  1. "Under Glass" IS open to any finished model, "On the Workbench" IS open to any project. The reason we have separate categories for things like Drag, NASCAR, trucks, etc. is for the convenience of you guys–to make it easier for members to find the types of models you're most interested in. Whether a member posts a WIP of a funny car in "Drag" or in the more general "On the Workbench" is up to them... just don't post it in both places, I do agree that the way the forums are broken down and categorized could stand to be reworked and improved on. But like I posted earlier, we already went around and around on that topic months ago, and Gregg decided to stick with things as they are... so, end of story as far as that goes.
  2. Remember, Ed... if it gets out of hand I always have access to the magic "Delete this topic" button...
  3. John, don't worry... you didn't break any rule, because technically there is no rule against multiple posting. I just prefer that everyone posts only ONE WIP of the same project, just to keep thinks a little "neater" here. If everyone starts posting identical WIPS in several places, we'd have a lot of duplication and wasted bandwith. If there are people here who only look at one or two forums and ignore all the rest, hey, that's their loss. We can't be posting multiple copies of the same WIP all over the place just to make sure certain people like Mr. "I look at the Drag section only" see it. It's up to people like Mr. "I look at the Drag section only" to look around and see what's posted; it's not everyone else's job to make sure he sees our work.
  4. He told me exactly why he was leaving, in great detail. But that's between him and me, so I won't speak for him here. That wouldn't be right.
  5. A while ago we were talking about reworking the forums, eliminating some categories, combining some, creating a few new ones. Everyone and their dog chimed in with their own personal preferred layout (and of course everyone wanted it done differently), but nothing ever came of it... so I assume we're sticking with the breakdowns as they are.
  6. The wheels on this one are actually slightly smaller than the ones on the car that Terry posted.
  7. That is a very good looking car... of course it helps when you start out with a car that looks as good as a '60 Starliner already does! Not much to add to that. This car is also proof that you don't need the ridiculous clown-car ultra-gigantic wheels that so many people seem to think are mandatory these days.
  8. Recently we seem to have a new trend starting up, where people are posting the same exact WIP thread in two or three different places on the forum. Let's knock it off. Posting your WIP in one place will suffice... It's up to you where to post it–in the "On the Workbench" section, or in "Big Boyz" or "Drag" if applicable, but not in all of those places! The reason I saw given for doing that was that someone in the chat room says they "only look at the Drag section," so the builder should also post his WIP there for the "convenience" of the Drag-only member. Sorry, but no. If a member only wants to look at one area of the forum, that's his right, but he's going to miss a whole lot of stuff by doing that, and it is NOT everyone else's job to make "Mr. Drag-Only's" forum visits more convenient for him! From now on multiple posts of the same WIP will be deleted.
  9. He quit the forum.
  10. I'd have to create it first.
  11. A little late for that now. Like I said, it was my fault, I screwed up.
  12. That was my fault. Tim actually submitted a more complete build-up article, but it was a case of having only room for two pages in the issue. It's a long story, but given the scheduling, the number of pages to fill, etc., at that particular time, I had to leave out much of Tim's article. I try not to do that if possible, but in this case I specifically had two pages to fill... and so I took Tim's feature and condensed it way down. It's hard sometimes to juggle all the material we have to specifically fit a certain number of pages, but that's the trick. We have a certain number of pages to fill, and depending on how everything works out, pagecount-wise, some things have to get edited down.
  13. Cool! Are those side skirts in the kit or did you scratchbuild them?
  14. That's exactly how it's done. A guy lists his merchandise, and he has his buddy (through his buddy's ebay account) set his preferences to "auto bid" for him... and he sets his maximum bid ridiculously high. What happens is, as soon as a "legitimate" bid is made, the seller's buddy's auo-bid immediately kicks in and raises the current bid. Every time another bid comes in, the buddy's auto-bid immediately ups the ante... and the net effect is to artificially drive up the bidding. In the end, it's a no-lose for the scammers. If a "legitimate" bidder wins the item, they wind up selling it for an inflated price, and if the buddy's auto-bid winds up being the high bid, no problem, because the seller and his buddy are working together and the sale will never actually take place. As far as a "legitimate" bidder being outbid at the last second, that's called "sniping," and there are websites out there that will automatically and electronically bid for you in split-second increments in order to help make sure your bid is the high bid. Is all of this ebay's fault? Of course not. It's the fault of people who are taking advantage of the system to cheat others. Blaming ebay for the behavior of these scammers is like blaming the newspaper if a person places a "less than honest" ad describing a used car, for example.
  15. Apparently the stuff works on some types of paint, not so much on others. I must have just got lucky; it worked for me (it took off Krylon paint perfectly).
  16. What I find funny is how many people blame "evilbay" instead of putting the blame where it belongs... on the seller! Ebay doesn't write the listings, it only provides the opportunity for buyer and seller to get together. If someone is trying to rip people off, that's on the person doing the ripping off, not on ebay. That's what the feedback system is there for, to weed out the bad guys. It's like blaming the newspaper when a car is listed in an ad that makes the car sound better than it really is. Is that the newspaper's fault? Is the newspaper supposed to go to the house of every guy who places an ad in the paper and check the car out before they run the ad??? Same deal with ebay.
  17. I guess I got lucky, then... because it worked flawlessly. (Krylon paint).
  18. I had to strip some parts after a spray painting "incident"... So I got a gallon of Purple Power at Walmart. I was sort of wondering if it would work, because there have been posts here from people who said it won't strip paint. I left the pieces to soak overnight, and just now I took them out and rinsed them off. The paint literally washed right off, every bit of it, in all the "nooks and crannies" too. The stuff could not have worked any better! So what's up with the posts that say the stuff doesn't work? One person said that there was literally NO effect after soaking. How can one person say it doesn't work, and for another person (me) it works perfectly? Does it only work on certain types of paint?
  19. How about this one? Real or model? The answer: REAL!
  20. Nice! I've never seen one around here, but like you say... maybe...
  21. Oldsmobile what? Gonna need a little more info...
  22. '72 Nova SS here... copper color with a black vinyl roof, black interior, bench seat, 350 and a Hurst shifter. Bought it used from a college buddy for $750 in 1976. It's the car I learned to drive stick on.
  23. That train set might be worth a few bucks! It's cool that you still use it.
  24. When it comes to styling, it's all personal preference. There is no "right" or "wrong." As long as you like what you have, that's all that matters. After all... the only person that has to like your car is you! But styling aside, like I said, you got a fine car for the money. Here's to many happy years with it. And your gas mileage puts my Mustang to shame!
