  1. Make sure you post photos when you're done so we can see how close you got...
  2. It doesn't matter if you lived in the same house as he did! A ripoff is a ripoff. Zimmer ripped off Stevens. Stevens ripped of Mercedes. No difference.
  3. All true. Which is exactly why Jada missed the boat by marketing these kits to kids. Kids are not a viable target market anymore, for all the reasons you listed. Jada misread the current market. They targeted these kits to model-building kids... a market segment that simply doesn't exist anymore in any kind of numbers.
  4. I think they understood exactly who the kits were aimed at: kids. But the reality is, these days kids don't buy model kits. Adults do. They knew who their target market was... it's just that their target market was the wrong target to market model kits to these days.
  5. "Overbearing personalities" are the whole basis of reality shows.
  6. What a coincidence... I got the Danbury Mint flyer for this one in the mail just today! Looking at the photos in the flyer, I'd say "good luck" trying to create a model that looks anywhere near as good as what Danbury has done.
  7. Geez, the postal mess, and now rioting in the streets of Vancouver! Good God... what is it with you people up there? B)
  8. If you have MCM #151 (July 2010), there is a build-up feature of the Jada Mustang kit in there.
  9. Yeah, I get that. But to complain that Zimmer ripped off Brooks Stevens make no sense, when Brooks Stevens himself ripped off Mercedes to begin with! Why is Brooks Stevens' Mercedes ripoff any more legitimate than Zimmer's Brooks Stevens ripoff?
  10. Never heard of it. What channel?
  11. Hey, you're free to do what you want. If you want to use one-part putty nobody's going to try and stop you. I'm just answering the original question: Which is the best putty to use? In my opinion, two-part putties are so far superior to any one-part putty that I would never even consider using anything else. I don't have any desire to mess with drying time, shrinking, cracking, etc. Why would I do that when there is a cheap, readily-available two-part putty that eliminates all of that? If you're happy with what you're using, that's great. But in answering the original question, I would never recommend it.
  12. Which in itself was a ripoff of the real classic car designs of the 30s... so no credit to Brooks Stevens for being original...
  13. From carscoop.blogspot.com: BMW of Canada has published a new and rather entertaining promotional film on the firm’s new limited production 1-Series M Coupe. The video shows the Bavarian automaker’s sports car pushing its 335-horsepower twin-turbocharged inline-six to the limit and burning plenty of rubber in doing so while passing sideways through set of imaginary walls on the road. Truth to be said though, BMW’s advertising agency could have skimped on the somewhat farcical CGI (computer-generated images) cement walls and still have an engaging commercial in its hands.
  14. Nobody ever said it shrinks after it's dry. What we said is that one-part putties shrink as they dry. All of them, no exceptions. There is no way a one-part putty, which hardens via evaporation (physically losing a part of its volume) can possibly not shrink as it dries. And if you apply one-part putty, then sand, prime and paint before the putty has completely dried, you will eventually see marks under the paint when the putty finally does dry completely. Two-part putties, which harden via a chemical reaction and not by evaporation, avoid that problem altogether. You never have to "guess" that the stuff is dry, because it doesn't "dry"... it "sets." And once that chemical reaction has taken place, it's over. No gradual drying and shrinking over time like one-part putties.
  15. Let's file that under "T.M.I."...
  16. It's only a bonnet in the UK... On our side of the pond it's the hood, whether there's an engine or a spare tire under it! The Great and Powerful Oz has spoken...
  17. That car has to be in the running for the "World's Longest Hood" award...
  18. Fake! Think of the logistics (and costs) involved in building all those walls in reality... and the almost zero percent chance that the car would go through every one perfectly.
  19. Yeah, hard to believe the same people that made this one also made those "Liberace-mobiles!"
  20. Consolation Prize: Keepsake London picture book!
  21. The car in the photo is a 1987 Zimmer Quick Silver. Here are a lot more photos of this particular one: http://www.fastlanecars.com/public/vehicle_detail.aspx?vehicle=46ea9e25-d25c-49bc-a4ca-1ce0a075ebd6 Who got it right: mark taylor Mike the Maniac MrObsessive trogdor sjordan2 Badluck 13 Jon Cole Modelmartin Jim Gibbons paul alflen Ryan S Joe Handley dimaxion
  22. There is nobody on the MCM staff with more integrity than Mark. Just for the record. That's not to say that others are any less so. Just that Mark is a straight-shooter all the way.
  23. Jerry, that looks very good!
  24. Yeah, I guess you're right. This is definitely not a kit for beginners.
  25. I didn't realize that you were a kid. Sorry. But you realize that you can also buy online using a debit card, which is basically the same as writing a check.
