  1. Apparently he can, because that's the going price. Sheesh, it's a 20+ year old 4 banger compact pickup, not a classic Ferrari! But hey! Look on the bright side... free firewood!
  2. Read my previous post. You can argue with the insurance company all you want. They have all the time in the world, and pretty soon you get tired of arguing with them and you get frustrated and you wind up taking what they offer you. I know... I was in the same situation. I tried telling them that the amount they were offering me wasn't fair. And I said besides, I don't want the money... I want my car back. Or one just like it. So they offered to find one for me, but all they came up with was "close but no cigar"... not the same color, not equipped the way mine was, etc. So after going around and around with them for weeks, I finally caved and said ok, give me the money. Their line is this: we will pay you what we think your car was worth. What we (the insurance company) think it was worth. Good luck trying to outmaneuver an insurance company.
  3. At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I think you went to paint too soon. You put in some amazing scratchbuilding here, very impressive to say the least. But you should have taken the extra time to really finesse the body, and remove all of the flaws (or as many as you possibly can). A shiny coat of paint will not hide the flaws, in fact just the opposite: the glossy surface reflects the light and even the smallest imperfections become very visible and obvious. I would seriously suggest that you keep on sanding and working on the body surfaces. A scratchbuilt project like this deserves it.
  4. Like I said... it ain't worth much. no matter how you slice it. And the insurance company will always try to lowball you. They use their own valuation data... and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they skew the prices downward... to benefit themselves. I once had a Dodge Stealth RT. It was totaled by a woman in a minivan that hit me. The insurance company offered me several thousand dollars less than what a comparable model was selling for on the market at that time. I argued with them, but guess who won the argument? I'd be surprised if the insurance company offered more than $500-600.
  5. The insurance company will always offer less than what the owner thinks their car is worth. According to edmunds.com, a 1990 S-10 (they only go back to 1990) isn't worth a whole lot: http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/s-10/1990/tmv-appraise.html?sub=regular-cab&style=9489&zip=60107
  6. You'll be lucky to get a couple hundred bucks for that from the insurance company. It's a 20+ year old truck that wasn't worth all that much when it was new... now it's worth practically nothing as far as the insurance company is concerned.
  7. Very nice!
  8. Ounce for ounce it's cheaper than "hobby" putties. And it works much better. Plus, a tube that size will actually last you a long time.
  9. Go to almost any auto parts store (maybe even Walmart) and get Bondo Professional Glazing & Spot putty. It's a two-part system (resin+hardener). It's about 7 bucks. Do yourself a favor and stop using one-part putties.
  10. Yeah, you'd think they would have had all this worked out by now...
  11. Hmmm... I see what you mean. I just tried ebay motors and you're right, the "Save Image as..." option doesn't come up. Strange. Must have something to do with an image also being a link or having some other sort of coding attached to it, so that the image is not only an "image" but something more. Oh well... apparently a quirk of FF. I also tried it with Safari. Same problem.
  12. Just out of curiosity, I just now tried opening this site in IE. The pages don't display correctly. Think I'll stick with FF...
  13. I've never had that happen. Right click on any photo displayed in FF and you get the dropdown menu that includes the "Save Image As..." option. At least that's how FF works for me.
  14. What brand of computer I use has nothing to do with anything. The problem is not on my end, it's a technical problem with the site's server. Since I can't get at my PM function I thought I'd post this here and hope that Dave A. sees it.
  15. The title sort of says it all.
  16. How about it? Real or model? The answer: MODEL!
  17. Ooops! I'll fix it.
  18. I agree. This would make a heck of a feature article. Ken, if you're interested, PM me. (By the way, I re-named your topic. Hope you don't mind.)
  19. Dashboard lights, fuel pressurizer pump handle, supercharger gears and engine oil feed indicators, and (probably) a compass at top center. Thanks, guys... that covers it.
  20. She sounds very good! Maybe she should audition for American Idol. You never know what could happen...
  21. Hmmm... that would make sense. Thanks!
  22. Already well underway. I'll post pix tomorrow.
  23. Ok, while we're at it... the big knob just above the tach?
