  1. You win my undying admiration! What are automatic lubrication windows? Are they some sort of visual float indicator?
  2. Does anyone have any idea what the circled items in this photo are?
  3. Ed, it's organized chaos! All the chaos is in one place!
  4. To quote Gene Wilder: What's the matter with you people? I was joking! Don't you know a joke when you hear one? I have never seen as much as 10 seconds of that show and don't ever plan on seeing any of it.
  5. Why so defensive? If you like it there, more power to you. I was there once, saw how it operates, decided I didn't like the randomness and lack of organization, and never went back. I don't "troll" there; I don't monitor (or care) what goes on there or who says what there. If people there are busy bashing this forum, I really couldn't care less. What gets said there isn't any of my concern... this forum is the one I care about. I just mentioned them as an example of the type of forum that I don't want this place to become like.
  6. Did you ever see the Bugs Bunny episode where Elmer goes to the auto mechanic's shop to ask about his buddy Willy's car? "When will Willy's Willys be weady?"
  7. I think losing the "Ask Model Cars" section and instead having a section called "Modeling Q&A" with two sub-sections ("How Do I...?" and "Tips, Tricks and Tutorials" makes the most sense. It'll put all the questions and answers in one easy to find place, and "General" can be used for all the other important stuff (like hockey and favorite songs)... Now the trick is to get Gregg to actually make the change!
  8. What we have here is... failure to communicate. What we need here is... an "I'm kidding" emoticon. Seriously. All kidding aside. I mean it.
  9. No argument there.
  10. Gee, Andy... I'm surprised that you found time to spare in your very busy schedule of doing "Important Things" to make this post. And of course you are correct... it's pronounced "willis," as in "Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?"
  11. You may be right as far as "intent" and who wanted to take who's customers away (trying to snag the competition's customers away is how business operates!) but that's not my point. You implied that Stevens taking his design directly from an earlier Mercedes was legitimate, but Zimmer doing the same thing to Stevens was underhanded somehow. As far as I can see, Stevens stole his "design" from Mercedes the same way that Zimmer stole their "design" from Stevens... who stole it from Mercedes in the first place! Ripping off someone else's work is ripping off someone else's work, doesn't matter what the intent was. PS: Any of you in the peanut gallery who want to take precious time out of your very busy schedule of doing "Important Things" in order to comment on how silly it is to argue the point may do so now...
  12. So why can't the kitmakers have a decal sheet that includes the words... oh, let's see... say "Good" and um... maybe "year?" Or "Fire" and oh, let's say "stone?"
  13. I wonder if some of the well-known 1:1 aftermarket wheel companies are also getting their piece of the money pie???
  14. I seem to remember a similar story... I think it was Pontiac "Trans Am" decals? Apparently they couldn't use the "Trans Am" logo on the decal sheet, so to get around the licensing issue they gave you the individual letters and you had to put together the "Trans Am" yourself!
  15. "The lawyers took them away" doesn't really answer the question very clearly... I think it might make sense to explain why the lawyers took them away.
  16. Licensing fees is what happened. The tire makers want more $$$ to use their trademark than the kit manufacturers are willing to pay. So we get generic "no-name" tires now.
  17. I agree. Overall, we really need to rework the category breakdowns we currently have. Some of them can be eliminated or combined. I like the idea of a new, separate section called "Modeling Q&A" or something like that... with the two sub-categories– "How Do I...?" and "Tips, Tricks and Techniques." That seems to make good sense.
  18. I'm just trying to keep this place organized. We break things down into categories for a reason: to make it easy for you guys to find what you are interested in. If people post anything anywhere, what's the point of having separate categories? We'd be like the Spotlight Hobbies board... chaos.
  19. No, the "rip-off" angle doesn't apply to a replica, because obviously a replica is... well... a replica. A copy of the original. But taking a Mercedes SSK roadster and pretty much copying it and then selling it as something else (an "Excalibur") is a rip-off of Mercedes. There was hardy anything "original" in the Excalibur, it was obviously derived from the earlier Mercedes. So my point was, if Zimmer stole from Stevens, as Mike implied, then surely Stevens stole from Mercedes, and his "design" is no more worthy or valid or original than Zimmers' "classic" cars were.
  20. I've had to move a ton of topics out of the "Tips, Tricks and Tutorials" section... and there are plenty more I haven't gotten to yet. Like it says, the "Tips, Tricks and Tutorials" section is for posting your tips, tricks and tutorials! It is NOT for posting questions about "how do I do this?" and "how do I do that?" If you have a question about how to do something, ask it in either the "General" section or the "Ask Model Cars a Question" section. Edit: Maybe we should add a new section... "How Do I....?"
  21. And also you like the glue fumes...
  22. I've learned a lot of valuable life lessons from Snookie...
