  1. In my opinion, car styling doesn't get much better than the '68-'69 Charger. Hard to improve on that design. The current "Charger" looks like a bloated sausage by comparison. Chrysler should have given us the Charger that was making the rounds at the auto shows. Instead we got a slightly disguised 300, which in itself is a silly cartoon of a car. Who designed that thing anyway, a gangsta rapper???
  2. Official estimates of the crowd for today's downtown Hawks parade/rally/love fest: Between 2 and 3 MILLION! Yeah, Chicago loves its hockey!
  3. Official estimates of the size of the crowd downtown today for the Hawks parade/rally: Between 2 and 3 MILLION!
  4. Agreed. The only time an asphalt driveway is black is just after it's been laid down. From that moment on it fades. Go with a medium gray, then use some white, black and gray pastels to add different areas of color... use your finger to smear the pastels around to create a mottled look. A real asphalt driveway (especially an old, worn one) is never all just one shade of gray. Then use a fine brush and flat black to add a few random cracks. You can create "oil patches" by using diluted thinned black and painting random splotches on the "driveway."
  5. I think that was the intent, but people sort of get carried away...
  6. That level of detail will set you back approx. $5,000...
  7. It's not "important." It just looks cool to many people (including me). But nobody says you have to like it. It's all just a matter of personal taste... and personally I love retro-styled cars.
  8. Final vote: 29 REAL 26 MODEL. Which means... I win !!! It's a 1/8 scale MODEL! (Hi-end, big bucks, limited edition, not a kit. The original was made from scratch, then the parts were cast to make copies).
  9. If you mean a clean slate, from the ground up, completely new Charger... I've never done that. If you mean taking the existing "Charger"... and I use that term loosely... and reworking it to be more Charger, I've done a few: Actually, I think Chrysler nailed it when they came out with the original "new Charger" show car. Not a retro design, but a new design that definitely said "Charger." If that was what Chrysler had actually put into production, I'd own one today: But unfortunately we got what we got...
  10. I'd like the 100 year old to post his birth certificate...
  11. I agree. How can any ad agency tell consumers that they "have to" call Chevies "Chevrolet?" Sounds to me like strictly internal/corporate stuff.
  12. I dunno... it seems pretty logical to me. They're saying that as far as corporate communication/advertising/branding goes, the name is "Chevrolet"...and it makes perfect sense from a corporate standpoint to have a consistent name in all markets. They're not trying to tell consumers what to call them. Consumers are free to call them "Chevys" or "Chevies" or however you spell it. So we can continue to see the USA in our Chevrolet or drive our Chevy to the levee...
  13. That would be Pierre Insanity...
  14. See... told you I'd forget somebody!
  15. Like someone else said, some guys excel in a certain area, some in another area. I can't really judge who's "best" but I can judge who are my favorites. And of course this is not a complete list because I am inevitably forgetting several names, but off the top of my head... People who post here regularly: For paint and general clean, sanitary work: Bob Downie. For creativity: Peter Lombardo, Virgil Suarez For detail: Dave Thibodeau, John Teresi, Jeff Sauber, Bill Geary, Dave Eicherly, Mario Lucchini and several others I can't remember right now... but they post in the Big Boyz section most often For general wackiness and off-the wall subject matter: Chuck Most And of course Miss Congeniality: George Hernandez!
  16. The train aisle at my local HL is pretty barren lately... but the model aisle and the supplies aisle are as full as ever! And ya gotta love that weekly 40% off coupon! The local Hobbytown USA here actually has less of a kit selection than HL, but more tools/styrene/brass/paint, etc. Too bad they don't have a 40% off coupon too... they sell at retail.
  17. Yeah, I was only kidding... I had no idea you really ARE color blind!!! Sorry about that...
  18. For a very reasonable $200 pledge you get the magazine subscription, the tote bag, and a date with Gregg... Operators are standing by to take your call...
  19. Notice we do not hold "pledge drives" here... the freeloaders can continue on guilt-free...
  20. What's the difference what color you paint it? Apparently you're color blind!!!!
  21. In regards to the "Jeff vs. Darin Steel Cage Death Match" that we've seen unfolding here, allow me to add my 2¢... First of all... I agree 100% with Darin's attitude regarding supporting the magazine. Obviously Jeff (and anyone else) is free to use this forum for free, without having to pay for it, and without having to subscribe to the magazine. This forum is offered as a "freebie," but it's important to remember that revenue generated by the magazine via subscriptions and hobby shop sales is what makes this site possible! So in effect, everyone who uses this site for free and doesn't buy the magazine is basically benefiting from those of you who do pay for the magazine. So Jeff, maybe you need to remember that, before you rip into Darin for supporting the magazine and deciding to submit his material to the magazine before he posts it here for everyone else. As said, this forum wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for the magazine's revenue paying for it! This forum is free, it's available to anyone who wants to join, and there's never any charge. But try to remember how that's made possible...
  22. Any particular reason you posted the same thing SIX times???
  23. A Hudson kit has been so long in coming, so asked for, so anticipated, that they have to know that they better get it right... or the wrath of the modeling community will descend on them...
