Art, that is looking really great so far. Are you planning to have this finished in time to bring it to NNL East next month?

That looks pretty cool Ray... nice bright color.

Great pictures Marcos, thanks for sharing.

I always tell my wife that her hobby is buying stuff using her credit card...!!! She's gotten a lot better since we moved to PA, but when our grandson came along, she was kind of off and running again. She's cut down a lot though.

1967 Cadillac - Finished - A gift for my Brother
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Cars
Thank you all so very much for all of your kind comments on this model project. At the risk of getting a little "sappy", believe it or not, I actually have not "seen" my brother in about 10 years, although we speak over the phone or stay connected by emails at least once a week. Since I don't drive anymore, I don't get to visit him in New Hampshire as often as I used to when I lived on Long Island, NY (at least 2X yearly) since having my stroke. Since my wife and I moved to western PA in Dec. 2006 we haven't seen each other due to the increased distance involved, etc. He doesn't drive here and I can't drive there..!! I'm sure that receiving this model will do a lot to "reaffirm our bond". As I said earlier, I can't wait to get the phone call that I know will come when he gets the surprise. Tom G., you are so right! It is so great to see the look of surprise and joy on the face of someone that you've given such a personalized gift to, and I'd love to be a "fly on the wall" when he opens the box. It more than makes up for any costs involved and any hassles you went through. As far as trusting the P.O., it's insured, and based on the way I packed it (not my first rodeo) the box would have to literally be crushed for the model to be damaged. (Let's hope that doesn't actually happen...!!!) Yes Ridge Rider, I will be sure to post the response I get from my Bro, and yes, I'm going back to the 50's again....... Geeze... I take one little break to do up a 60's car and you gotta jump on me...??? LOL Next on the workbench is a '59 Plymouth Fury Johan promo. Thanks again everybody. -
Harry, that Rambler looks awesome. You really do fantastic detail work. Great job sir.

1967 Cadillac - Finished - A gift for my Brother
Ramfins59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Cars
Thank you all very much. The car is wrapped in parchment paper, then in bubble wrap, in a promo style box, then in a larger box surrounded with styrofoam peanuts, sealed with clear packing tape. It'll be dropped off at my local P.O. tomorrow and David should probably have it by the middle of next week. I'll know when I get his phone call...... I can't wait...!!! -
Thanks Greg. I don't fear the dentist anymore. I have dentures...

Thanks very much everyone, I appreciate all the kind words. LOL Chris, Wow...... I guess Mom kept some secrets from me after all. -
Yeah Ray, I've gotten a couple of really good deals on BIN, but unfortunately most of the stuff I look for is rarely listed that way.

That was great. Thanks for the humor.

For me it would only be if you were bidding for 1950's promos, of which I now have pretty much all that I think I can get for a reasonable price. When the prices start inching up towards $100 is when I back off. The same goes for kits or builtups of late 50's models. The prices on those usually go through the roof pretty quickly.

Nice job Douglas, that looks great.

Thanks Larry...... I see you couldn't sleep either huh? -
Well, my insomnia is hitting me hard tonight so I decided to take and post some pics of this '67 Cadillac model that I finished. To recap what I put in the WIP thread, I built this model as a surprise gift for my younger brother who lives in New Hampshire. He used to own a 4 door Sedan DeVille that was baby blue and white in color with a white interior. He sold the car about 10 years ago. Since no model or promo of a 4 door Sedan DeVille was made I picked up a Coupe DeVille promo on EBAY for a reasonable price. The passenger side A pillar was cracked which is probably why I was able to get it for a good price. Some CA glue fixed the pillar and after sanding off the mold lines and priming and painting and clearing it twice (don't ask..) I did the BMF work. The grille was blackwashed and I glued some clear headlight lenses over the chrome ones to improve the looks of them. I attached some thin plastic strip around the rear base of the roof for a trim/separation line. The wipers were hit with a black Sharpie marker and an outside mirror was added to the driver's door. On the hood and trunk I added teeny tiny Cadillac Crest decals that I cut out of the Caddy Sombrero hubcap decals from the Revell '49 Merc (I used a tiny pair of babies nail scissors using my Optivisor !!!) The paints used were Duplicolor Arctic White on the roof and Krylon Peekaboo Blue (Baby Blue) on the body. The whole car was then clearcoated with Model Master Clear Gloss Enamel. The interior was painted Duplicolor White primer then sprayed with Tamiya semi-gloss clear. The carpet was flocked black and BMF was applied to the dashboard, steering wheel, door panel and speaker details. Black Detailer brought out the dashboard gauge panel and vent details. Sheet plastic visors, a dome light and an interior mirror were added, along with pieces of shirt pins for shifter and turn signal levers. Resin window cranks, painted chrome silver, were added to the door panels as the molded ones had no depth to them. I'll be double boxing this Caddy with bubble wrap and styrofoam peanuts for it's USPS terror trip up to New Hampshire so I'm sure it will arrive in perfect condition. This was a fun project for me and I am imagining the big smile on my brother's face when he opens the box. Thanks for looking in on this. Any and all comments are welcomed. Now to pick another 50's car out of the pile to work on.

Stan, that Caddy looks great. I love the Gold & Black combo. BTW. I finished this '67 tonight and will be posting pics in Under Glass tomorrow. -
Too many projects going on.

Yeah, that would definitely drive me nuts. I have a hard enough time trying to decide what to build next after I finish something. Having that many started would really make it tough to decide what to try to finish. Apparently though, not everyone finds it necessary to actually finish a model.
