The MPC Petty Charger is an example of the dilemna. Great kit. I mean it is a really great kit. Large scale and clear body so you can show off your work. Meaningful kit to boot. Petty was a giant in racing. With all that it is not flying off the shelves at Hobbylinc. One time they reduced it to $30.They have had those kits FOREVER!

I'll post the old Lindberg 32 Roadster boxart. The 1/32 kits have some good subject matter in there. It's the subject matter with Lindberg. You can't be a nut about the actual kit.

I do warn them against getting to obscure with that though. I think it is prioritizing "long lost reissues". I would rather have some of the funny cars than dune buggies and Corvairs. High horsepower not low horsepower first. But have to consider other people's interests. I suppose.

That list leaves me cold. To be positive about the whole thing I'll say this. AMT has a well rounded catalog. MPC is more racing oriented. Sure. Like that list. SOMEBODY out there will buy those. Round 2 is a business. So that's the way they keep the doors open. It is pointless to say what Round 2 should make on a forum. It will have almost no effect on what they make. I like the 1/16 Petty Charger. I'll says that. I reserve the right to say something is a waste of plastic. Probably never will but I'll protect my right to say it. If somebody starts hopping up and down about it. Oh well!

So we have drag racing and track racing. That's what kind of kits they should put out. Stock and customs are okay. Race cars are the big boys.

This is the best boxart for Round 2 to use for the old kits. Looks like early sixties. I think there is another 'era' of box art that came right after this . Will find an example to post.

Gregg That's the idea! I changed the post to keep it simple. But yeah. Round2 should put out more Wow! kits and less dreck.

Here's a list of what Round 2 has put out that I think are what they should be putting out. Mercury Maraunder Kat's Kollection Hippie Hemi 40 Ford Coupe 32 Victoria Would have been better with boxart wtih features on side of box. 60 Ford Starliner 62 Buick Electra 225 That will do for now.

Haken and Bob Good posts! All I am saying is for Round 2 to service the Advanced modeler. Call them what you want. Experienced modeler? Senior modeler? There is no perfect parts pack.Too many kinds of builds. Drag. Customizing. Okay. I guess AMT parts packs as is are for the Advanced modeler. I suppose the Kat's collection kits are for the advanced modeler. Problem is they only put out one Kat's Collection per year. Okay. Then some kits they do make an effort to put every extra part ever made for it in the kit. Like the Mod Rod. And their articles about a new kit are probably for Advanced builders. Think I will just leave it lie for now.

Give the Advanced modeler of either kind some recognition from AMT. Put out the hotrod frames by themselves. Model T or 32 Ford. Dragster frames. Funny car frames. Just takes the okay from them. But the being carried in special section of Autoworld would be good. Advaced builder that can modify parts or make them and Advanced builder that does super nice job building kit.

A partner ship between AMT and a model maker resin caster. A model maker is the one who makes the original part. 1 AMT sends over what they have. Parts or spec's. 2 Parts get made. 3 Resin caster runs off small production run. 4 Sends them back to AMT. 5 They sell them as licensed resin parts. Where do I send the bill for this expert consulting fee? Buick and Olds engines for hotrods would be nice.

I used to be annoyed running across their listings. "I'm looking for the whole kit". Now I get what they are up to. So you just search "AMT Ford Y block engine" for example. Voila! You get the engine.

And another thing. I think we need to define advanced modeler. I mean guys that can make parts that don't exist from existing parts or scratch. Then there is the other kind of advanced modeler who does a professional grade build like he works for George Lucas or something but couldn't make a simple bucket t frame from scratch to save his life. There! That should clear that up!

They need to kick it in gear making hard to find parts sold in plain wrap plastic bags or plain white box. Case in point. '27 Ford touring. Just the body please. And the overhead valve cylinder head. We can use a T engine out of some other kit. They need to sell the hotrod engines separate too. Ford Y block. Buick nailhead and whatever the other are. They could call it "Kat's Korner" for the advanced modeler. Like "Kat's Collection". They should send me half a dozen kits for this free consultation.
