regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Here they are. AMT TV Tommy Ivos dragster and Hemi Sphere Top Fuel dragster. Could be same kit or Hemi Sphere could be Prudhomme car. Anybody know? AMT should bring out it/them. Early 60's dragster with Prudhomme connection one way or the other. He drove Tommy Ivo dragster. -

' you can get the kits separate ' That is what I meant. ' said it was available now ' A version that is close enough for me is available now.Malco Gasser. It's a Ohio George mustang altered or funny. Good enough! What AMT or MPC kit is close to this? The Prudhomme Green Black dragster. That looks awfully familiar and I think it may even be out now. -

To be fair about it. I give okay Round 2 credit for doing a very good job! I give them 9 out 10 stars really. I'm saying go for that tenth star! Problem is they put out the special kits and they don't sell. Hemi dragster in retro box.Molded in kandy apple. 1/16 Petty Nascar Charger. Special body. And a dozen others. All in all they are doing the best they can.Gotta pay the bills.Keep the doors open.Tough business. -

' Hey Bob, aren't you aware of that Round 2 Corporation owns ' Sure.Makes more sense to me to refer to them as what they are AMT and MPC. ' have not been reissued together recently as on the boxart you show. ' Yes.They are available that way. Give AMT or whoever credit for the Cobra and carhauler set they did just come out with.Step in the right direction. The box art was a mis step though. The box art in these pictures here is the best approach I say. Especially with the special feature parts on the side of box. That's the way to go. ' Both kits use the same chassis ' When faced with choosing Mr Gasket on Ebay for two bills or Malco in light blue clearanced at Hobblinc for $15 I choose the Malco. Has the Ford Cammer 427 and it's a funny or altered chassis.Good enough. Kit did say 'Parts restored'.Another way of saying 'It's not the hard to find Mr Gasket kit'. That is what I'm saying. Why does AMT MPC get right to the finish line and self destruct? Incomprehensible. -

' I don't either of these has been reissued any time recently.' All three are kicking around now. Yes. What you show is the Mr Gasket AA Gasser. No. You don't get a clear body. Give MPC credit they did make it with colored body. They are getting warm. Transporter was reissued pretty recently. Ran out quick. They didn't make enough and price was too high. Dragster is on used market dressed up as something else. Here's a super historical car. Ford J version of GT40. With CLEAR body! C'mon MPC! Have a heart. Sideline the 4 or 5 humdrum kits you are working on now and put this out! -
Ran across these two kits. MPC Ramchargers Dragster w/Transporter and MPC Gasser w/clear body. That's right. You CAN get all three kits right now. EXCEPT No clear body for the gasser. MPC Hey! run off some clear bodies for some of these kits! It won't kill you to do that! The dragster is packaged as some other version.Ramchargers mean Mopar. It has a Hemi engine in it.So that's a good way to build the kit. AMT and MPC needs to put some punch into these kits! They get all the way to the one yard line and just don't put it over the goal line! Also.MPC did not make enough Daytona Transporter trucks. Notice the Transport is for hauling slingshot blown Hemi DRAGSTERS which were hugely popular and new when kit came out.

regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Did a search for 'rear engine hemi funny cars'. Here's pic of early one.The guy gets Manly Man points for driving that. Did see kits you can build if you are into rear engine Hemis. LA Dart and Hemi under glass. Hemi under glass and that pickup truck one Little Red Wagon were HUGELY popular then. Every kid new what they were. -

' There was only one made for drag racing period ' Well.If it's okay with you I will keep my eyes open for one. Info from '68 can be iffy. What is that? 50 years ago? Anything's possible.Could be partial chassis or something kicking around. Definitely would be worth dragging home. -

Here's a search. 'How many AMT piranhas were built?' https://www.google.com/search?q=how+many+AMT+piranhas+were+built%3F&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-1 Looks like somebody here in California beat me to one. I thought I felt a disturbance in The Force.:) -
AMT Piranha Hemi Dragster Out Soon
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
' One. The one in Garlits' museum is the only one. ' Okay. Now there is only one you know of. How about when AMT was campaigning the car? Did they have more than one for appearances and drag meets? Seems like they would. How many Corvair Piranha's were there that AMT used for business? Be cool to find one of those in a garage somewhere. -
Surprise! Corvair powered Piranha came out about a year ago and now the big gun. HEMI POWERED! Would I drive it down the 1/4 mile? No. Give me a much longer wheelbase and wider track please. Here's pic of one. Looks like it is in Don Garlits museum. How many Hemi Piranhas were there? Anybody got the answer?

AMT '65 Buick Riviera George Barris News
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Here's a pic from sales brochure and link to whole brochure. They never look like they do when they were new again. Interior shots are mighty impressive. http://storm.oldcarmanualproject.com/buickriviera1963.htm -
' I realize you get tired of people correcting you ' No problem. NB (means take note) The contributed pictures the guy painted over the body. Ouch! When I was a kid this kit would have made you the envy of all the other kids. Large scale and 'special body'. Good job MPC. Make some more! Bring out the 1/16 427 Cobra! Molded in blue.

Olympia 3" Clamp On Vise Hobby Vise Review
regular guy posted a topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
It's great! I was sitting on fence deciding between this and Harbor Freight Freight hobby vise clamp on worktable style. Harbor freight one is more for people that like 'barrel vises'. It swivels 360 degrees. On the other hand this one stays put. A simple tool for simple jobs. This came up on Ebay for $8 free shipping so I said okay. Great little hobby vise! Online it looks bigger but the part over the table is a little bigger than a baseball. Has baked on finish that should hang in there for awhile. Nice little vise -

Found an ad for it from Popular Science @ 1960. Looks like it is made by Thomas Industries. They make good compressors. -
Talking about the Big Red Rod, Hot Canary T, Bob Tail T and the Tall T.Plus the Exterminator. Seeing how the supply of used kits is running low it's about time for Lindberg to reissue them. I will say the last issues are top quality. Hats off to Lindberg for bringing back the 1/16 Bullhorn T and the Serpent T. And the Petty Charger w/see through body.

Looking for the manual for one of these. It's more for connecting to a Sprayit paint gun. Did a search and found nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Will post pic of it.

AMT '65 Buick Riviera George Barris News
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
There was a lot of innovation at GM in 60-63 Kennedy era. The Corvair, Stingray, Riviera and the Tempest with the transaxle. I would get the kit because it is same body run as '63 and represents that era. Along with 62 Buick Electra and 62 421 Bonneville (have). Smart set took notice. Here's pic. That's William Shatner's Corvette in background. -
It will be available soon. That's a real surprise to me because it's that is the most interesting AMT Buick Riviera. Closest to the '63 Riviera and looks mostly the same. The '66 was a restyle that to me was a toning down of the original look. Looks like it will have the George Barris customizing parts which have been absent from AMT kits for awhile. Looks like AMT has been on a GM streak lately. Came out with the 62 Electra and the 65 Grand Prix. Way to go AMT! Here is a very cool picture. Might be a 63 or 64. Makes the car look sporty.

Thank you. It clicked when I read 'If you wish to paint your model' in the '53 Corvette instructions. Experience tells you what a good model should look like but putting in the hours just isn't reasonable. Having a completely equipped workbench with everything at your fingertips isn't going to happen here either.. So this is the way it is. Glue together only. It works out okay. You can see what it's supposed to be. Up nest is the Lindberg 1/16 Model T (can't find instruction sheet!) or another big scale kit.
