AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Item #1 Took a look around for Advanced Customizing.Apparently there were many of them. '63 T Bird and '64 Ford Hardtop to name a few.Looks like they came out between '63 and '66. Item #2 Another slap in the face for boat enthusiasts. 64 El Camino Advanced Customizing kit used to come with a Westcraft boat. MIA in the current AMT release. AMT is doing good with some kits though. '65 Pontiac Grand Prix as a Grand Slam instead of ho hum 2 in 1 Stock and Custom. -

I will take your word for what boats the kits have in them. This kit is available all over the place for $24.95 Then I see the frustration about the Bonneville and the boat. Looks like AMT released '70 Pontiac Bonneville but no boat! -

' drag boat was reissued as a stand alone kit instead of putting it in with another kit. ' Out of the corner of my eye I saw the drag boats. Might have been at Round2, Autoworld or Hobbylinc websites. Those are real nostalgia pieces. -

Thanks. Couple more things to figure out here. The Buick Electra and the '65 Pontiac Grand Slam. Are those and the two Fords the only extra Customizing kits that have been reissued regularly? -

Thanks. What about the '63 Ford Advanced Customizing kit? I have seen a ton of versions but don't remember if they even said 3in1. Is an Advanced Customizing a Trophy kit? -

I'll take a guess here. There is a '49 Mercury Trophy kit and a Customizing Series one. Anybody know the difference between the kits? About the '61 Ford.Never seen a Trophy 3in1 of that. So is the Styline has nothing to do with the Trophy type kits? -

Thank you. Do you know how the Customizing Series fits in with these? Same question for those two Fords. '61 and '63. Styline and Advanced Customizing kits. -
Update. Opened up Bondo fiberglass resin and it had crystallized. Bought it a couple years ago. Learned something though. It is polyester resin. The way you can tell is if it has catalyst that just takes a small amount for the resin. Epoxy is a 1 to 1 ratio. Not even close. Will get some epoxy resin and try this again later.

Casey All good info! Thanks. So it looks like only the 'Ford powered' older kit is the 3 in 1.Got it! I'm due for my 1 kit every 6 months(keeps the clutter down). Lot of kits to pick through. Very interesting the Silhouette is a Trophy kit.Not the usual Stock, Custom and Race format. -

Thanks! Is the 50 Ford out now a Trophy kit? It' s on that Trophy list. If so.That makes a lot of Trophy kits out right now. What about the 32 Ford? -

' You cannot build Don Tognotti's King T ' Good point about it being an early 1913 T. '25 fendered T coupe is close enough for me. ' These:' That's interesting. I meant which Cobra kit is a 3in1.I saw a King Cobra and it says it is 3in1. I ain't buying the Cobra Racing Team kit for $50.That's a fact. -

'I do not.' I give up.Which ones are Trophy kits? The hard to find Double Kits are the XR6/27 T and the Wild Dream/King T. Can't have everything. -

' 260 Cobra '? Do you mean the King Cobra kit with the hard top? That has disappeared from my favorite online hobby store.Came out about a year ago. The Mod Road/Roadster might be a Trophy kit. It is definitely a Double Kit.Has some interesting parts so is worth getting either way. The coil suspension is interesting.Like on Ala Kart. Good info about the '57 and '58 Fords. The 1925 Model T Ford Double Kit Trophy here has 140 parts. Good thing is you can build a Tom Cognostti King T like full fendered T roadster. Just be a '25 instead of a '27. Put a lacquer paint job on it and off you go! -

' What does it mean to be a trophy kit? ' A whole lot! Look at a Trophy kit with the parts pictures on the side of the box. You get more stuff! Take the 1925 Model T Ford Trophy. You get two 3 in 1 kits.'Build two complete cars!'. Double Dragster is another kit like that. Not every Trophy is a Double Kit though. AMT kits can go in the other direction too. Some you only get parts to build stock and custom. Even worse some you only can build one version. -

Thanks.Meant '53.Has Trophy logo on boxtop. Here's the real 'hiding in plainsight'! Mr Speed '53 Starliner! Features the most far out version but it is a Trophy kit. A possible is the '58 Chevy out now. There was a Trophy version of it. This one out is molded in gold so maybe they blew off the Trophy parts. -
Here's one bona fide Trophy kit out now. '36 Ford Coupe Roadster. Another one is the '58 Ford Pickup that's been out for awhile. A possible is the '32 Ford Victoria. I know it's out.Just need confirmation it is a Trophy kit. Pretty good crop of Trophy kits! Maybe somebody can come up with some more.

' May i know what enamel brand you are using? ' Yes.You may.Testor's Enamel. http://www.hobbylinc.com/cgi-bin/s8.cgi?tag7_i=1099&cat_s=RHD&mfg_s=tes&sort_i=3 The 1/4 ounce bottle. $1.39 and $1.49 ones. ' But what model you are building ' It's a Lindberg.Like this one. http://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/lnd72324.htm They sold out of the Mercedes Racer. These kits are simple kits. I picked that because I don't have a lot of time to build model kits.

Bucket T Body Restyle Like Tex Smith's XR6 Build
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is scale building before doing the real thing. This XR6 like roadster is a real good idea. You can build a sportscar the same as building a bucket t. I like this idea a whole lot. Just in case somebody doesn't get it. The thing is to make it LIKE the XR6 not exactly like it. Use the same process.Does not need to be so show carrry.More like a Kurtis 500S -

This is me attempting to bring some enthusiasm and new ideas here. Am I in the right place? -
Idea is to make a starting point for custom car bodies dimensioned like a T body. Smooth out cowl. Trim down 'bathtub' rear lip. Best part is style a more useful 'turtledeck'.Rounded fuller. All that is left is a front grill and just panel between grill and cowl.
