' The kit is a joke.' Why? AMT is putting out some nice kits lately. Is this kit different in some way? I will go ahead and get one. Full sized high performance models didn't get made for very long. It could be ordered with a 427.That's rare too.Lot of those cars had the engine puled and were junked The notchback roof works for me too.GM had a different name for it and a couple models had it.

Two interesting points about this kit. One. It has a notchback roof as Mercury called it. ' In sharp contrast to the distinctive reverse-slant "Breezeway" roofline option, the Marauder was styled with a sloping notchback rear roofline; an early version of a fastback sedan, along with its Ford Galaxie 500/XL counterpart, the roofline of the Marauder was optimized to make the large sedan more competitive for stock car racing. Along with the "sportier" roofline, the Marauder trim package included bucket seats and central console, similar to its Ford counterpart.'-Wikipedia,Mercury Marauder. Two.It's a full size sports high performance model. Those models only existed from the late 50's to the mid-60's. ' For the 1966 model year, as Mercury shifted away from full-size performance vehicles, the Marauder was replaced by a repackaged S-55; the move also consolidated the options of three model lines into a distinct nameplate.'-Wikipedia Note the S-55.THAT's an interesting car!

Doing a little side project testing paints for this project. Painted a chopped T body with Model Master Primer. It came out with brush marks. Thinned paint on next car body. That helped with brush marks. The thinned paint is a good enough finish for this Mercedes Racer kit. Next will test coverage with and without primer.Look for bleed through too.

Amaco balsa foam arrived. Have two samples. One low density and one high. You can really tell the difference in weight. Will test it for cutability and sandability.

' Especially look at those headlamp bezels, I assumed it had to be photoshopped. I guess I was wrong. ' I don't know what era custom that is or what has been done to it but I can comment on lead sleds. If you want an idea how it was done pick up Tex Smith's 'How to Build A Custom Car'. Working in metal and using lead to fill and smooth is a whole lot of work. Done right it will last forever. Bondo can loosen and fall off along with the custom paint on top of it. Little embarrassing when everybody is looking at your way out custom.

Well here. This '57 Chevy is a little more exciting. It's a 3 in 1 kit.Instead of 'race' third version is 'gasser'. That ought to ring somebody's bell.
-
About that '32 Ford Sedan above. That is out now or maybe it is a Tudor. I would fall down if that radiator shell/headlight shell piece is in kit.
-
About that two 3in1 Model T kit. Looks like the full fendered roadster would make a nice custom car. Like the King T.
-
Missed one. 1958 Edsel.Gee not only that but it's a Pacer! My only comment is I never saw an Edsel turned into a go-fast. With mags and hopped up engine. They were just Edsels.

I will just throw this in here. So XR-6 is very rare and it will be a miracle if Round 2 comes out with it. Here are the other two with same story. King T and Wild Dream. That's it.

Big news! Did some test painting. Been using Acrylics. Ordered some enamels and big can of thinner. Painted a 1/25 car body with Model Master primer. What a difference! Covered in one coat. It's more like paint that I remember using as a kid. Okay. Back to Mercedes. Will probably glue some parts together.Get some more gluing refresher experience. Will just use Testor's tube glue.Pickup where I left off a long time ago.

Here's the next one of interest. Looks like an authentic camper shell. Wonder if there are any accessories with it? Looks like second release of a series.First one being the pickup with the soapbox derby car.

When I was a kid one my friends big brother had a shoebox 55 or 56 Chevy. He used to take us for a ride when he had made some improvements to test it. We sat in the backseat except there was no backseat. He had removed the back seat to save weight.I think he had a rollbar in it. It sat high gasser style all the way around. The idea was weight transfer to the rear wheels for traction. That stuck with me.Later in the 80's when I built a 440 Dart. No back seat.Every little bit heips! His Chevy had a black primer paint job. Then that meant you were interested in All go No show. With mags of course.I had a dangerous set of mags on the rear of the Dart. They were Keystones.Aluminum center welded to steel rim.I was always worried they would fall apart. His Chey looked a whole lot like the one in American Graffiti. The one Harrison Ford drives in the big drag race with John Milner at the end of the movie. In the 60's and 70's a LOT of fast cars roamed the streets of Southern California. Some of them where legendary. The one guys Max Wedge car on the Westside.Everybody knew about that car. The whole place would shake when that guy pulled in.The car shook! Well.Back to working on my little model kit here.

Disabled Modeler I get it .You know about the MPC 70 Pontiac Convertible but you want a hardtop? That MPC kit is a rarity like the 65 Lincoln . Conversion were interesting vehicles. They really went begging in the used market. Nobody wanted them after the original owners got rid of them.
-
Just throwing this in here. Right now the MPC '60 Corvettte kit is out. It's a 7 in one kit.Lots of accessories and engine parts.Think they are all small block though. It's on sale for $16 so I might actually grab one. Just a guilty pleasure. I need a 1/8 chassis more than I need the Corvette.

' Thanks for the info. ' You're welcome.Looks like there are other ways to check to. I have looked at New Releases on Autoworld and Round 2 occasionally. They hide them in different places. They have one that it real in depth. Photos of every parts tree. ' That's not accurate, though, since the '69 442 came out in March. ' For the B-O-P crowd right now the '65 Grand Prix and the Olds are out. You can grab them as they some along and have the complete set.Forgot that '70 one with custom pickup body. '

Here's the link from Hobbylinc of AMT sort. Look at kits that say 'Out of Stock'.Most of those mean they are coming out soon. http://www.hobbylinc.com/cgi-bin/s8.cgi?cat_s=SC&mfg_s=amt&sort_i=3&p=2 First one I see is a 1/32 1963 Corvette Stingray. That's cool. You can also use it for a slot car body. On this website for the 1/32 Studebaker some yo you complains about the kit! The big picture is how many 1/32 Studebaker Avanti's do you see? Some people!

You're welcome. I made a mistake. How To Build a Race Car.We bought a reprint that you can find easily. Floyd Clymer 'How To Build A Fiberglass Car'.That one is an original. When we were ready to pull the trigger there was an original for sale on Ebay. It was LESS than the reprints and it sat there on Ebay for a couple days! Go figure.
-
Went to the Floyd Clymer sale in about '73. It might have been in the Peterson Publishing building.Kind of Hollywood/Downtown area. The guy showing the stuff I don't think was Floyd Clymer. Couple of old motorcycles they were selling off. The one I will always remember was a Clymer Munch. 4 cylinder NSU car engine mounted sideways in it. Bike was like new.Maybe one they had taken to car shows and whatnot. Jump to today. I bought a Floyd Clymer original 'How to Build Race Cars'. Cool little book.

' but if you want to shove an X Acto blade ' No.Just stick it on the inside to see what it's like.No man, I'm not going to make it unusable. ' Anyone care to bet how long this thread lasts before it joins the growing list of threads like this that have gone off the rails and locked in the past couple days?? ' No. I've learned my lesson. Will say my opinions but no more playing 'getting to know you' with forum members. Not after that blowup.I wasn't expecting anything like that! -
Sorry Mr Clark. Did not mean to stir up a hornet's nest by any means. I traveled for a few years and you couldn't swing a rock on string without hitting a person that used to live in Southern California. Found a Ventura surfer in Oklahoma City and more just all over the place. ' Then you have people like regular guy that think their idea will make the model companies untold profits ' It none of my never mind whether they make money or not. That's their side of the fence. I know what I like and just letting it be known and that's about it. When I traveled Missouri was one of may favorite states. Kingdom City Reno and I forget most of them. It's been a couple years. Oklahoma city has the National Rodeo Museum and just all kind of cool stuff. Once again sorry the user name was a big deal. Whoops! That's Oklahoma! Okay.Missouri.Grain Valley and Joplin and a bunch of other places. All very cool.

' But LISTEN when they tell you something ' Okay. I read your post. I'm listening. Why is your forum name SoCal but your in Missouri now? Did you used to live here?
