  1. Here's the showcar full fendered T. It's the King T but it shows the style a '32 could be fixed up like. I can't spend all day looking for a '32 Ford full fendered show car. They were called California Roadsters.AMT calls them that on their '29 Ford kit box. So.A '32 Roadster would look good show car style with a chromed Caddy engine and pearl paint job. Maybe Tangerine color or gold.Get those scallops going on body and fenders.White and purple. Real late 50's early 60's style like Ed Roth Mysterion and Beatnik Bandit. Here's the roadster version of 5 window coupe vintage kit. That sure cleared things up! Their were two vintage kits with same box art.
  2. ' Which is an entirely different kit than the ancient AMT 5-window ' That is called a reflection on the meaning of the 5 window coupe. So people can make a comparison of the fendered and fenderless. We like new business ideas in Southern California. Bob's Smartphone Exactness Factoid Syndrome Intervention Service. We take away their smartphones and drop them off at Iowa RV Campground. Nothing on all four sides except the highway and fields on other three sides. About a week's stay should do it for most cases, maybe more if necessary.
  3. Let's not forget the American Grafitti 5 window coupe. I would say the trend in the early post war hot rods was to strip the car and get it low to the ground. Then it looks like in the early 60's fendered ones made a comeback. You see it in the show cars. A fendered coupe or roadster with chrome engine and metallic paint job does look very cool.
  4. ' Sorry it's not a roadster, Mr Regular, my bad ' No need to apologize at all. Thank you for taking the time to post a fenderless '40 Ford. You don't see many of them around that is for sure. I'm still entranced by the little '34 Ford Roadster bare body from Jimmy Flintstone. It just looks cool. Never had any resin parts that I know of. First thing I would do is stick it with an Xacto knife and see if it's soft. Somehow I got the idea Resin parts are soft and waxy. We'll see about that one.
  5. ' No, thank YOU for a most entertaining thread ' You're welcome Cabdriver/James/JIm. Yes.We strive to entertain. Yet there is an underlying principle at work here. To get modelers to let the current regime putting out AMT kits what they want. Need to scourge the modeling community of the 'taking it and liking it' attitude of gushing over anything Round2 puts out. Everybody has opinions about what AMT IS putting out and SHOULD come out with and I think they ought to be heard.
  6. Here's the description of what goes in this sub forum. ' New, old, or reissued kits-opinions, questions, comments, and maybe a little bit of history thrown in... ' Think I've covered all the bases. Just to be thorough. Here's a question. How do you get the kit to sit low like on the cover of the 'Deuce V-8' version? Hard to get cross leaf spring rear ends to sit low. The '32 was the first year to have a V-8. Don't confuse that with a modern V8 with overhead valves. First car to have that was probably '49 Cadillac. That's why you see the Cadillac engines in the Parts Packs.
  7. The 5 window coupe does not really ring my bell but it is a great nostalgia kit. 'A mean motor scooter' like the line in a 50's song.'Leader of the Pack'. I believe. Revell might have a version out right now. Revell kits have parts that are more accurate than some of the other kits. The downside is the parts end up thinner and smaller. A good kit takes some liberties and makes the parts a little bigger in the interest of buildability. Anyhow the Dirt Track Racer kit is probably decent quality. I think they used to make it with the original box art. Maybe Round 2 got after them about it.
  8. ' There are plenty of releases of the AMT kit to be had at a reasonable price ' Don't expect any inspirational box art from these 'middle years' releases. Pretty bleak box art on those. The middle years between AMT and Round 2.
  9. Here's the original kit. Did notice while searching for it there are plenty of newer AMT releases for sale reasonably. 'Whitewalls included'! It's kind of fun buying a 'bargain basement' version of a super rare kit.
  10. Here's the AMT version made by Dirt Track Racers. I think the original AMT kit is pretty pricey on the resale market. Has cool period box art. They have the car sitting low.The trend then. Better handling. You need all the help you can get with a straight front axle. See the box art for the original for build ideas. The box art on this DTR is 'enthusiastic'' but not quite the way I'd build it. Looks like Round 2 will bring this kit back soon. Right now they have the Victoria out so the 5 window Coupe probably is not far behind.
  11. ' You said "fenderless hot rod" in your post, you didn't specify "roadster" ' First time it said 'hot rods' only.Corrected it to roadster hot rod. But. Hey. All Ford hot rods welcome. I myself prefer no top. It's a California thing and practical too. Less weight. That's good to see there are some '39/40 fenderless rods. The back end without fenders is a taste you need to acquire.Like the Ford models that have 'exposed cowls' instead of the clean flat firewall T buckets.
  12. I don't get you. I don't see a '40 ford fenderless roadster there. I would say nobody built one because they don't look good without the back fenders. See this link. http://dennis-carpenter.com/1940FordCoupeBody.aspx A lot of these Fords have the relief in the sides for wheel clearance but they look okay without the fenders. A '39/40 looks pretty bad without rear fenders.
  13. Saw a Buick Riviera or Oldsmobile on an old tv series episode. Guess the thing to do is just get the AMT Riviera and call it good. The styling themes are similar. Even an Olds 442 will work if you are just going for that era sports full size model from GM.
  14. Update. Glued frame together. Used under pan as an alignment fixture. Taped everything in place with masking tape. Came out pretty straight.
  15. Anybody seen a '40 Ford fenderless hot rod? '29-30, '32, '34 and '36 you see alot of. I thought I've seen '39-40's fenderless. Stripped, stripped down and fenderless.Same thing.
  16. Want to point out that now is the time to get a '65 Pontiac Gran Prix. https://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/amt990.htm Sure.AMT may come out with more B-O-P's the way they have been bringing out lots of stuff. On the other hand it has been 10 years between '60 Ford Starliners. Grand Prix's are reduced at a big online hobby store so I would say now is the time to grab one. Unless you like paying a premium and shipping for one kit from a 'kit vulture'.
  17. Forgot the big news. Amaco Balsa Foam is on the way! Sounds ideal for shaping body parts and whole bodies from. Just have to try it and see how it works. I will say the Woodland Scenics railroad layout foam did not work out. It is like Walmart foam cooler foam.It was supposed to be cut with a hot knife for example. It is just good for putting underneath clay to save clay. Will report on Balsa Foam.
  18. Figured out how to use the belly pan as a guide to hold frame rails together. Want to build it without the belly pan but it needs some support while gluing in two crossmembers. Will tape and clamp pan and frame rails together. Glue parts, let them harden overnight and then remove pan.
  19. Pretty sure Revell has one out now. Lindberg '32 Ford kit has been around for awhile.Get one from Ebay. I just finished reading about hot rod history in Leroi Smith/Tex Smith's 'Make Your Own Hotrod'. It says at the local California dry lakes they allowed roadsters and discouraged coupes and sedans. One of the dry lakes is Edwards Air Force base now. Lindberg kir is 1/24. I like it because it is bigger than 1/25. Some parts you snag from 1/25 kits might not look right on it.
  20. ' beginning in early 1962, the excitement on the part of model car builders (back then, the principal age group was from about age 10 to age 15 or so ' Nothing has changed. I want my parts packs! Gimmy! Gimmy! Gimmy! More like the '57 Fantasy ones. Keep 'em coming AMT! Custom front ends and rear caps.Fender skirts, Tonneau tops and hoods. Full speed ahead! Custom carpet sets and upholstery in leopard, tiger and zebra patterns. Don't forget the Custom Car Show set with little ropes and stands to put around your car and maybe a little mirror to put under it. If I don't see more Parts Packs come out of AMT I'm going to hold my breath until I turn blue!
  21. ' Tiger shark frame and chrome amt frame. ' Looked at the Tiger Shark and Surf Woody/Rod. Surf woody I found frame and it's plain, no chrome. Tiger Shark I didn't want to unwrap but looks like no chrome frame there. So must of been 1/12 Fiat I was thinking of. Suspension Parts Packs are a good idea. Like the subframss.
  22. ' when I say a frame is stupidly designed, like the one in the 1/12 Lindberg Fiat, it IS stupidly designed. By somebody with no clue. ' Those people are probably dead.So I myself do not criticise them. I have respect for what they did. In the hot rod game that is one thing you learn is humbility. After you see some off shore racing boats with four engines. You can buy a house in some neighborhoods with what they spend for say part of an an outdrive. Those always somebody bigger and badder than you are around the corner. Back to the parts packs. Some fabric and carpet packs would be nice.
  23. Could you glue the Hot Rod frame together so we can make a better comparison? No. Don't do that. Just kidding! Looks like an alignment problem with that front tire.Bad cupping on it. I will look at Tiger Rod frame later. I remember it as being chromed. Maybe it's the surf rod frame. Interesting front torsion bar setup on Tiger rod and how they did a lot of work for tranny mount. Like the 'get it done' body supports on side. Thanks for posting pic's.Takes me half and hour to post a pic of anything.
  24. Yes.It is a question of whether you want to 'Boldly go where no man has gone before' or stay on the farm. Back to the parts packs. 50's and 60's Custom car show ones please. Like the '57 Fantasy latest issue. Plexiglass craze was early 60's. Like the Thunderbird kit with the dual canopies. That's cool!
  25. Well we're happy with the Tiger Shark and 1/12 Fiat frames. Use them for reference. Fiat is very cool in that it looks totally custom made. Nice knowing you can just fabricate and the car will get down the road.
