What kit is the parts pack chassis from then? I heard it was from a kit.Probably heard that right here actually. Anyhow. The Tiger Rod has a chrome show car chassis. So does the 1/12 Lindberg Fiat Dragster Cabriolet. 1/12 is a pretty handy scale. it is right between 1/8 and 1/16. Good tabletop size Part are big enough to work with. I am locked into 1/8 though right now.

' I have no interest in old chrome frames ' Oooh! That's blasphemy! Here's something you might use. I don't know how much suspension is under it though. http://www.hobbylinc.com/amt-2012-corvette-coupe-plastic-model-car-kit-1:25-scale-756 Later model Corvette kits are cheap everywhere. Back to the parts packs. Yep.Suspension one would be a good idea.

Decided on a race car design. It will be the AK Miller Mexico Road Race car. Let's say it will be that 'type' of car.Not much auto design excitement there.Basically 50's indy car or big car look. One body I will work on here is a hot rod roadster body. A bumble bee tail low slung body. Can be used in place of a bucket T body. Sort of a Sports '27 T track roadster function with a different look. The other one is an inverted wedge bucket T body with matching front end. Will spend some time on the light box and post sketches.

Sounds like you are talking about Pro Street parts. 60's show car frames parts packs exist. The Bill Cushenberry Dream Rod/Tiger Shark has the chrome show frame these parts packs used. Then some other kit had the frame.Maybe the Surf Rod. I can look on the shelf if someone really needs to know.

Everybody's favorite! History lesson time! Guy in California about a year ago had an unusual engine for sale. A Deusenberg flat 12 cylinder 2 stroke engine from a racecar. You would definitely win the 'Stand Around the Garage Look at it With a Beer on Saturday Afternoon' award for that! The things people attempted that failed I find fascinating. I traveled for about 10 years and saw a lot of 'ideas gone wrong'. Like an abandoned Western theme village in El Paso. Very cool! Okay.Back to Parts Packs. There will not be a test on this.

AMT could have a little 'Custom Shop' for making resin parts. Sell little 'Pro Modeller Packs' of low production parts. They would have the available plastic parts right there to work from. I think adult modelers could live without the 'Parts Pack' packaging. That way the parts would get out there. They could farm it out. Just have it 'Approved By AMT'.

' Cool, can’t wait to see' Thanks! ' Is this the one from a Rod & Custom 2-part article about 50 years ago? ' These are new designs.

Progress report. Picked up a light box to help learn how to draw. Will post some sketches. Next up is 4 1/2 lb modeling clay. Like the green gray color. Start sculpting some of the features. Some small concept shapes. Will keep at it!

I would like to see Parts Packs from the 50 and 60's. They should be for Customizing and Advanced Customizing/Styline. Clear and simple.Anything else is getting off subject. Customizing makes building the kits fun and interesting. Took a look at the '62 Pontiac Catalina kit on my shelf. It included Customizing parts not Advanced or Styline. So as of right now the '62 Buick Electra 225 with Styline parts looks like a good move for me. Plus the '57 Fantasy Parts Pack.
-
' How many have YOU bought?' Thank you for reminding me.My shopping list looks like this. AMT '53 Ford Pickup 3in1.Get before it goes bye-bye. '62 Buick Electra. Can't say no to Styline parts in kit. These are good examples of mid late 50's early 60's custom car show kits. '65 Grand Prix is a little iffy because it is toward end of Golden Era of custom car shows. The Bill Cushenberry Slhouette is a must have.Big time custom car show model. That and the Ala Kart and Lil Coffin are the big guns of the Golden Age car shows. You can throw in George Barris Surf Rod. Then the '34 Ford Jimmy Flintstone body. Finally the AMT '57 Fantasy Parts Pack.

Here's a side panel from a Thunderbird Styline kit. Those are parts for a parts pack. Custom front and rear caps. Have to include custom roofs and plexiglass canopies, full and dual, also the little windshields for convertible. Upholstery parts packs should have leopard , tiger and zebra stripe patterns. Look at all that's going on on that side panel. AMT needs to put some excitement back into there kits. 'If you aren't making mistakes then you are not making decisions'. They should go full tilt in one specific area like Styline kits. '57 Fantasy parts pack is a step in the right direction. Now they need a big leap forward. I say with a couple Advanced Customizing and Styline kits. Then say half a dozen parts packs.

' if I were a mfg I would look into the financial feasibility of producing/reissuing kits with stock parts only AND at the same time releasing a custom parts pack for that kit. ' THAT is why it is worthwhile to discuss it here.A brainstorming session. Emails about this can just go the email address on Round2 website. If they are interested in feedback they have them forwarded to right department. That's a good idea about an 'optional' parts pack for kit. AMT just brought out a Model T pie wagon AND a delivery truck. Delivery truck body parts only could have been a Jimmy Flintstone like small add on kit. Like the one suggestion here to get the price down on a basic kit. That way you can buy a $15 kit for a kid as a gift if you are not sure if it even going to get built. Junior modeler $10-12 ones would be even better. Just a body and interior shell plus wheels and tires. it would get the AMT name out there. Put some ads on it for real version of kit. Back to parts packs proper in next post.

Metallic and metal flake Naugahyde upholstery parts pack! Like in the Ala kart here. Made a minibike seat from red metal flake Naugahyde. Schwinn stingrays used to have sparkle seats.
-
' we can't do anything about it so it's quite useless to bring them up here' It helps to discuss what is going on with AMT parts packs. It could somehow lead to a treasure trove of new parts packs. Think the major ones are the Advanced Customizing or Styline body parts. Then custom and racing frames, engines and rearends. Chrome quckchange ones would be good and Ford and Oldsmobile. Then plexiglass clear(clear plastic) canopies. Then custom chrome bumpers and grills Upholstery and carpet.Custom rims and tires. The '57 Fantasy Parts Pack may be the beginning of a bunch of them coming out.
-
Andy It would be nice to have 'one stop shopping'.Buy the kit from your favorite online or your local hobby store. BTW The AMT 62 Buick Electra 225 kit out now is a Styline kit. Takes a while to figure that out.Maybe have been sold as such originally. Guess you save excess parts as your own little parts pack. Also Buick Electra is a full size model of Buick. The same old out of proportion 'too big' roof makes it look like a mid size.
-
AMT needs to bring out more Parts Packs like the '57 Fantasy one above. Customizing is a major feature of model car building. That means Advanced Customizing body parts and bubble canopies. BTW A online hobby store is dumping the Silhouette for $14. The car show parts pack is a good one. Chrome stands and rope to put around your car at the car show. Can't forget the little trophy! More customizing Parts Packs please! Upholstery and carpet kits. Body parts and bubble tops. Custom hoods, roof's and trunk lids.
-
More 'sandbagging'.Everything is A-OK and let's do nothing. Some custom roofs would be cool. Add fendershirts to the list. Advanced cutomizing one in addition to the stock type. Some Continental Kits.Regular and custom. More custom bucket seats.Maybe pre covered in custom upholstery. This modeler is definitely not interested in paying any kind of premium for old Parts Packs. 'Millions for defense but not a penny in tribute!'. Round 2 could do a whole lot better in the Made in USA arena. MPC Titan rocket, Lindberg Little red wagon and Lindberg '54 Ford shows they can do it. So what is the hold up making more kits in the US? No excuses accepted here.Thank you.

'It can't be done.it's too hard'.'That is why you fail!'.-Star Wars. Positive thinking and can do attitude is a better way to approach situations. Would like to see custom clear canopies and clear hoods.Double canopies and single. Plus lots of custom grills and bumpers. Plus more custom and racing rims. Some Halibrand and other knockoff types. Custom body parts would be good. Custom front caps and tail sections. They could even include a little tube of putty and a spatula like the Styline kits. Here's some motor ideas. Cadillac 354 50's engine chromed.Pontiac nailhead. Lincoln flathead V12.Ford Thunderbird 312 50's engine

Ace The Hot Rod Frame and Grills and Bumpers are what AMT needs to reproduce. They have the Styline parts for custom body parts. AMT is doing a good job bringing out the classic kits and parts packs. Would be nice to see upholstery and carpet packs. Have not heard from them that I know of what Parts Packs they have. If they can get a hold of original Parts Packs they can take molds off of them. So that shoots holes in the 'do nothing' argument Also the current regime Round 2 should have picked up enough experience by now to make new parts. i believe they have said they have.
-
Now AMT is starting to bring out the good stuff! https://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/amtpp018.htm They need to make these: Dragster and custom car frames. Chromed and unchromed. They brought out the Model T racing pack so they are getting close Custom grills and body parts. Sort of Styline parts without the rest of the car. Custom upholstery kits. Clear parts pack. Custom bubble tops and hoods. Before we trot out the 'Woe is me, we can''t do it' flurry of negative excuses. If Jimmy Flintstone can do it so can AMT. Won't kill them at AMT to make some new parts.

Anybody know what kits' include the flathead V8? They put an OHV V8 in a lot of kits and figure why bother with the stock flathead. I know they include the flathead 4 cylinder in some of the T kits.

Fenderless Ford Roadster Hot Rods
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Bill 10-4 Thanks. ' The '36 Ford coupe is identical in every way to the '36 Ford coupe, other the fact that one has a soft top. ' That be true. No doubt about it. Roadsters are more of a California custom. Hard tops are Northeast and Midwest types. Bob -
Fenderless Ford Roadster Hot Rods
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That's all wonderfulness but those are coupes not roadsters. Title of the post is 'Fenderless Ford ROADSTERS' not coupes. Hard to have any clear thinking about this when it's not even the same car. Sorry to be the bad guy here but that needed clearing up. Okay with me to talk about them here. Just label them so at least. -
Round 2 AMT Advertising Suggestions
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know what Mr Meyers is attempting to say. Yes. These are cool! Here's one? We will go with that. The AMT Royal Rail and Depth Charger have been languishing for years on Hobbylinc. Prices slashed to 50% and no takers. I am going to get one next order. Sure they are dopey But if you think about it they are for 6-10 year old's. Real nostalgia Takes you back to building kits like Weirdo's and Aurora Wolfman and Frankenstein. Scuba diving was a big trend in the 60's.Then the Royal angle was a lot of things had royalty like nams. Duke, Imperial, Crown, Princess and more. It was a good association. Today it's just stories about the English royalty or zippo.Think the other royalty hide.Don''t want to get trashed by the press.Good thinking! Dopey kits rule! -
Round 2 AMT Advertising Suggestions
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
' Maybe opening hood and detailed engine, scare most weekend modelers away, as to them maybe it reads, too complicated to build! ' Then they can build snap kits or curbside kits. BTW MPC '64 GTO is a new curbside/snap kit ' not always pleasing to the eyes I am coming around to liking the 'dopey' aspect of some of the kits. A purtist's point of view. Look at the Revell Big Daddy Ed Roth Tweedy Pie(did I get it right this time?) Very true to the original.Box art included. Lindberg '32 Ford roadster has a dopey front body piece to cover 'lay down' racing radiator. That's the way it was then. Not every idea lasted though the tests of time.To become something that you would do the same way today. We used to make colored plexiglas dash knobs in wood shop. Where are those now?
