Bucket T Body Restyle Like Tex Smith's XR6 Build
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Am too! That 1/25 body is to look at it and modify the shape of it in final 1/8 scale clay. If your demanding I go hunt down a 1/8 scale '27 T roadster body that ain't going to happen. I can post a picture of a piece of clay before shaping in 1/8 scale if you really think it will help. -

Thanks Jim! Have the little list here: Jimmy Flintstone '27 T body and nose Van Aken clay. Fix printer to scan and post drawings on forum. Looks like we better get busy huh? What we did get done was this: Test Testor's enamel paint.Yes,It's more like paint from when I was a kid than acrylic. Tested gluing balsa with medium CA glue. It works like we were looking for. Have a good one -
The Revell ship models look like a good deal. Online hobby store has about 7 of them and they are all under $20. The Missouri one is 20 inches long and is about $18. I have seen a review or two saying some are old molds. For my level that will work okay though. I think Revell lets Revell Germany compete with Tamiya as far as detail and quality. Some of the Revell kits say Renwal. So you get some nostalgia included for under $20.

AMT 63 Ford Advanced Customizing Build
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thank you for all of the good ideas. Remembered Kandy Apple Red.That was a big deal when I was a kid. Now Testors has leftover cans called Candy Enamel.New ones say Transparent.Kind of lifeless name. MAYBE we'll pick up one or two of those. With silver and gold metallic base coat.Metal flake was the real deal back then but I don't see silver and gold metal flake basecoat on Hobbylinc or Testors. Probably just paint car with standout custom gloss enamel color this time. Tangerine or Grapefruit or Purple.Maybe Lime Gold Metal Flake. Not quite right era though.Metal flake was more mid late 60's. -
Trying to figure out a color to paint it. Best I can come up with is an enamel that is not a factory color. Different AMT box top art gave me some ideas. They are just non factory solid colors.I think that maybe because exotic paint jobs don't print well. Think I will not attempt pearl or lacquers. Any suggestions for colors?

Thanks Ace Will pick up some epoxy next hobby order. Working on frame now. Had to toss the Bondo resin but the cloth is still good of course. So that is some progress finding the cloth that was already bought. Will keep chipping away at this.

AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks Casey ' I think all AMT/Ertl kits were molded in grey' Good point about asking about gray/grey kits in Q&A section. Thanks Brian About Trophy kits. So in the Customizing Series you get car show accessories add in and in Prestige you get a desk pen holder mirror base. Well. That makes them better in a way. I think double kits are better in a way too except when it's two different cars totally like the Double Dragster kit. Then two Trophy kits would be better. Can't really make a Trophy kit out of a Bantam roadster or a dragster though.Double dragster had dragster variations though. Close enough! -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Called AMT Monday. They just figure to put any double kits out in a regular box.As far as I could tell.I did not go on and on about on the phone. Update on the '63 Advanced Customizing Kit ('63 Ford XL Sports Hardtop). It's molded in gray. Anybody know how you can tell if a kit is molded in gray BEFORE you open it up? This says RC2 Brands Dyersville IA 2006. -
1/8 Scale Race Car Frame Original Design Build
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks! Looked at .PDF of it and it looks great! Will keep my eyes open for a paper copy. Will probably pick up Forbes Aird book too.The Race Car Chassis.Looks like a good one.Written a little later I think. -
1/8 Scale Race Car Frame Original Design Build
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
UPDATE Figured out making passenger compartment wide. Keep rest of frame like an Indy car or Big car. Putting crashbars at front and rear of passenger compartment. That's so if a wheel gets knocked off and car slides it doesn't 'pogo stick' when it hits a sharp object. That drawing is bottom loop.Car will have a top loop about the same. -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Taking a second look at it.It doesn't look like a long box really. Well. Will find out from Autoworld if they can put out long boxes with maximum number of parts. They probably will because they are getting their Exclusives going. You can read 'Exclusive' as 'Kits for Adult Model Builder's' or 'Kits for Professional Model Builders and Collector's'. It's their Prestige line of today. -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Hi Mr Casey I think there is a way to get a possibility here. Find out from Auto World if this kit is in a long box.Being a double kit it's sure to have a lot of parts. So.If they put that out then they can put out anything and even make a Vertical box.Very cool. -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I agree. That would be a real nostalgia kit. Did you want it back in a narrow box or vertical box or don't care? I like the vertical box then the narrow box the most. My next choice is at least the 3in1 Trophy boxtop like on the current '53 Ford pickup. Looks like early 60's. -
Bucket T Body Restyle Like Tex Smith's XR6 Build
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
We're pretty stoked about designing and building the car in sections. The final product should look race car like because of the sections. Here's a '28-29 body that we're using just to get major features right. http://jimmyflintstonestudios.com/?product=nb234-1928-29-ford It will be completely redesigned.Wider lower rounded and covered in a little more over the sides. -

Well. How about that. AMT has brought back the narrow box.As they call it. http://www.autoworldstore.com/product_p/scm038.htm The Hippie Hemi. Amazing! -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks! THAT is a sharp box! AMT should put those out. That really tells you a lot about the kit. This box we have 'sideways' long and flat is pretty cool but that box trumps it. The all time low were the AMT/Ertl boxes. 'Here's a picture of the model painted. We hope you buy it.' Pretty sad. AMT is working on making the boxart better so who knows? CORRECTION:Our '61 Styline Ford does have a gold #5 sticker on the cellophane. -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
' devolve into hard to follow threads. ' There is a link between Styline,Advanced Customizing, Customizing Series and Trophy Kits. The '49 Mercury is both.A Customizing Series and a Trophy Kit. Maybe there are some others. Some of us like to concentrate and delve deeper into a subject. A mechanical listing of facts lacks the human touch. Enough philosophy for today. -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
' It's just a different shape of box.' Technically that is correct.Like the The Declaration of Independence is on different size paper than 8 1/2 x 11 copier paper. The long flat box is the earlier box. Being a '61 Styline kit.To make it a nostalgia kit they put it an original size box. AMT ought to do that now. Like if they bring back the '39/49 Ford Sedan. -

' You're going to tell us what it means...right?' No.That is a real question. What does the flat box mean? ' Is this the issue you purchased?' Yes.It is.There is no round gold sticker on it though. How come your kit is still wrapped? -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Update.PIcked up the '61 Styline and the '63 Advanced Customizing (says on the side 'Build a stock '63 Ford Galaxie 500 XL') The '61 is in a long flat box. What does that mean? Just to jump ahead here.I think the '60 Ford Stariiner and '64 Mercury Marauder would make this a nice little early 60's Ford collection. That would keep me out of trouble for awhile. -

' The '62 Buick and '65 Grand Prix have a similar construction w/ metal axles and molded in chassis detail, interior tub. They are vintage tooling ' Thanks! That is interesting. They are like a class of AMT kit's. Sure.Nostalgia experience will work. Okay. Our '65 Lincoln kit is just like that. Seems like they add the custom features to make kit worthwile. -

' Not a curbside, it has always had an engine ' I am going by what was in that link. One piece interior.Metal axles.Engine with notch in it for axle. That is curbside enough for me. Is the current '65 Grand Prix like that? Which is better buy of the ones out now? The '62 Electra or the '65 Grand Prix? -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thank you Casey. Is the 2010 issue in article the flat pink one? Images were not opening. Which one has the most customizing parts? Did see in article that it is a curbside kit.Have to think about that one. -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Sounds like the Customizing Series are a little beyond the Advanced Customizing and Styline. Mostly because of the booklet. But the Advanced and Styline include more front and rear custom body parts. Think the thing to do is grab a '62 Electra and look at that. How does the new release compare to the Pro Shop one and the flat pink version? -
AMT Trophy Kits Out Now May 2018
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
' Still would be nice to see back. ' I keep suggesting that AMT just run off little kits like the hard to find boats as 'Bag Kit's. Just stick them in a bag like they did with blue see through body for Hippy Hemi dragster. Sell them on Autoworld website for $10-15 and get on with it. That would be how you serve the niche market.Period!
