AMT and MPC Please Put Out Significant Kits
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
" doesn't have hands-on machinists and toolmakers with a can-do attitude on staff. " Maybe they do and maybe they don't. They do? Lindberg Serpent Made in USA. MPC Titan rocket Made in USA. They don't. Was told on phone "Factory is in China" Point and click send by email offshore "engineering" . Inferior to American engineering unless you just want a brainless copy of something. -

" I had thought they would have come out with a couple of new tooling kits each year by now. " My frustration with them is this. About this cost of "new tooling". Let's say they have most of the body parts for the AMT XR-6. They are missing let's say one piece of body. I kept being told "The cost is enormous to run off that one part.So we are just going to sit on whole kit." Run off the body parts with ONE new part you had to make. Sell it in a plastic bag for whatever. Advanced modeler's can come up with another chassis and the rest. -

Fiberglass Test 5 oz Cloth For 1/8 Scale Body Build
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Okay Ace. Back at the ranch. Changed the color of clay we will use. Clay is to make shapes to take molds off of. It was Van Aken grey-green.Now it will be gray or sculptor grey. 'Was on a grey green kick because that is what Protilina and Klean Klay color is. Grey is more like some AMT kit plastic color. That's all the news that is fit to print. -

" Is this a project we will ever see?" That's the plan. This is scale work of one of the cars in progress. Seem's like funny kind of encouragement for a scale fiberglass build. -

Hi Ace What happened to your avatar? Pretty sure it is 5 ounce. Not the thickness of levi's but of a denim shirt. Thicker than a t-shirt. Ace. See the word 'Build' in the title there. Remember. Only words of encouragement.:) Trust me Ace. We know what we're doing. -
Ready to go at it again. This time with these glues: 3M super glue Bob Smith Industries gap filling Testors liquid cement. Plastruct Bondene and the other one. Didn't like fumes from Testors glue. Good stuff though. Melts plastic a little and welds it.

What members CAN do is email Round 2 and Autoworld store and request what they want built. Include picture of receipt or kit you bought recently. That should help. Put your phone number at bottom. Then you can call them and start in about 'Don't you care what buying customers want? Nobody called me." I'm half kidding here. Don't call them. They're busy. Maybe somebody will actually call you. You never know. Be nice to see the 1/16 427 Cobra again. Bringing out the 1/16 Serpent gets two thumbs up! Made in USA! Molded in blue! That's more on target than some kits I won't mention. Do not want to get into hurting sales. That does not help anybody. -

More wish list. '27 Ford T phaeton or touring body parts. We can fake the rest. Some funny car and stock car frames to put under existing kits. Tell him he has cash in hand customers waiting! -

Ace See if he can run off some stuff to sell now so we can support him. XR8 body panels would be nice. Little stuff like engines. I would go $10 to 15 for some loose parts. Clear bodies? Heck. Some people might want to buy what he's got as it comes off the molds. -

' Yes, same tiresome drivel over and over again. There must be already 100 threads on the same topic. ' Good. What's your solution to an ongoing problem? AMT and MPC are not coming out with "Wow!" kits. The Hippie Hemi Autoworld Exclusive is a step in the right direction. The reissue of Wynn's Jammer is an example of how they are missing the mark. Original came with clear body. Reissue looks like it is just plain old plastic. Doesn't get much worse than that. Called Autoworld about clear plastic bodies. They said 'We don't know how to make them." Great! Take what you got and send it to somebody who does. They are doing a good job in a way.It could be worse. They could totally sit on interesting kits. Could they please go the extra mile! -

" They will not spend money on tooling " They should make parts they do not intend to do anything with 'open source'. Let small specialty builders make low production runs of the kits. Like AMT XR6. Wilhelm's Wonder. Tom Cognotti's T. "Either watch , help or get out of the way." They are getting in the way. For the goals they have set for themselves they are doing a good job. Guess it is a mater of how demanding of a buyer you are. -

'You can't lead people where they will not follow'. If it okay for most people to "Take it and like it." with what they are putting out. Oh well! MY OPINION is they have put out some good kits. I'm just concerned with the number of 'nothing kit's" they are putting out. New Cobra kit is two thumbs up. Lot of the others are real snores! Just trying to flag them down before they go off a cliff. -
Some of the new releases do not do much for me. Somebody tell them "You did good finding what you needed to put these out. Atta boy! Good job!" "Now go back and make the '32 Ford Phaeton, '32 3 window and 5 window coupes and some Funny Cars." Also. Forget the real obscure stuff for now. Rhino records put them selves out of business getting too obscure.

Darn Youtube took up all my post. In the 32 Phaeton kit. Engines have tabs. They fit the frame and the display stand. Engines will also fit in '36 and 40 Ford kits.According to this guy. Pretty interesting.

Found a little handy tip.

Does this kit include gas tank so you can make Mod Rod? It's George Barris version with crest on box.

Sprayit 400 Compressor Repair
regular guy replied to regular guy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Could be.It feels like iron though. Get a better idea after taking it apart. I'm a little ways off from replacing one or two vanes in it and putting it back together. Plan to do some disassembly tomorrow. Then need to check the bore condition. Also see why the rotary drum with the blades in it got loose and jammed against the bore. -
ATTENTION That looks like a mistake in directions. Step 4 in the first section. The spindle HAS a retainer so there is no need to mushroom the end of it to keep it on. The spindle at the TIEROD needs to be mushroomed. Otherwise the tierod will just fall off when you turn model over.

It was sold as a kit with a paint gun for painting walls. Made by Thomas Industries. One of their first products around 1960.They sent me a manual .PDF. That's good support! The vane compressor got loose in the bore. 3in1 oiled the 4 screws holding it together overnite. Came right out with hand impact driver. Going to take case apart when I can get to it. Any body know what the vane blades are made of? Looks like same material they make piston rings out of.

James Find some time to glue it together! Probably won't happen today. Tell you. The quality on the manufacture of these 1/16 kits is impressive! Fit together excellent. My associate wants to see model of cross leaf spring suspension. We're building a little race car.Chevy II 4 banger powered. We ain't got a Chevy II motor but the equivalent.

Autoworld sent me the original instruction sheet and replacement windshield very quickly. Have done all my prep work and getting ready to start gluing it together.
