  1. This is my version of Wendell Scott's '62 Chevy. When I started this, I had plans to do a few more things, but then I broke my wrist. I can't stand to leave something unfinished, so I did the best I could with the one hand. I removed the body trim and wipers and cut out the back panel for the fuel filler. I scratch built the seat bolsters, interior walls, dash inserts, and rollcage. I used athletic tape on the floor to simulate the floor pad, then used crepe tape to wrap the steering wheel and rollcage for the padding. I made the hood pins out of needles, wire, and sequins. Finally, I made the decals myself. The engine compartment and a final pic
  2. This is my build of the MPC 1932 Chrysler Imperial. I broke my wrist in the middle of the build and pretty much lost the use of that hand, so I didn't get done all that I wanted (such as changing the bumpers to be 1933 versions and hinging the hood). I did replace the too-short tie rod with some brass rod, started plumbing the engine, filled in the missing part of the floor, and opened up the horns. Anyway, on to the pics: Both the rumble seat and the golf bag door open Here's the engine
  3. This started off as the Revell Snap-Tite 1977 Monte Carlo. I sanded off the body trim and vinyl roof, then stretched out the wheelbase of a parts box NASCAR chassis and made that fit into this body. I had to make the headlight and taillight covers, the rear window straps, the rear spoiler, and the hood and trunk pins. I drilled out the holes in the wheels. The decals are a combination of homemade decals and parts box decals. This is not modeled after any specific race, but is meant to simply be an interpretation of one of his cars. Comments good or bad are welcome.
  4. Thanks, guys. I also dechromed the bumpers so I could paint them the same color as the body
  5. Here's my '71 Charger. This was built pretty much box-stock with the addition of flocking on the interior. I did try out painting the body with Creatix paints. I was overall pleased with the results (at least with using the opaque paints). These paints do need a clear coat over them when you're done, but they spray easily and touch ups are easily handled. On to the pics: Here's the underside: I found that I had forgotten to paint the passenger side center vents. I didn't even notice until I had checked out this pic: The engine compartment: A final pic:
  6. Thanks, everyone. I am overall happy with it considering the time restraints.

    Subaru XT

Here's my Tamiya Subaru Alcyone changed into a US Subaru XT. This was done as part of a 24 hour build on a different site. I used the left hand drive dash in the kit and made decals for it so the car would match a car my wife and I used to own. I filled the backs of the seats so they weren't open and flocked the interior. I had to work and get some running around done on the day of the build before I could start, so instead of starting at noon, I started at 8:00pm. I was still able to get done at 11:57 the next morning, so I barely made it. I am glad that I chose this kit to build as I wouldn't have been able to complete a full-featured kit in that time. Here's the pics: We had a picture of Lady Death on our old car - I couldn't forget to put that on. When I noticed this picture, I realized that I'd forgotten to paint the emblems on the hood and trunk. I'll go finish that before I stick this up on the shelf, so I guess that I didn't actually complete it by noon. The headlights do pop up and open Here's the interior - sorry for the glare and a final picture
  8. Thanks, everyone. Jesse, the decals were pretty darn bad. I used decal film on them to keep them together, then used microset and microsol on them. I also had to use a hair dryer to get them to lay down and still they tore and crumbled. I had to use paint to touch up some parts of the decaled areas.
  9. This build started off as the MPC Firefighter kit, but with Slixx decals. I re-did the wheelie bars to extend them out farther, added a parachute from the spare parts box, wired and plumbed the engine. I hope you enjoy the pics. Here's the engine compartment and a final pic
  10. This started life as one of the Camaro promos. It was in pretty poor shape. After taking it apart, I cut off the roof and made the T-tops, cleaned it up, then repainted it. It's not really a "build", but I hope you like it anyway. Here's how the dash came out Here's the underside where it really gives away its promo heritage and here's a final pic
  11. Here is my build of Bill Elliott's Melling Ford Thunderbird. This was the car he drove when I first noticed him, before he was known as, "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville". The kit was an old one without a box or decals. The decals were old Slixx decals. They were in terrible shape and disintegrated once they hit the water, so some of these had to be re-done by yours truly. The "9" on the side of the car were a bit on the large side, but I can't print white, so I worked with it and made them fit.
  12. Finished this before the end of the year. Not much to say about this one - it was a kit without a box or decals. I had to use some aftermarket decals as well as make some of them myself. I had a couple of problems with the old decals, but other than the decals, it's box stock.
  13. Thanks, guys. Bernard, I picked up the decals at the Slot Car Fever website. I haven't read that book yet, but I am in the middle of reading Hard Driving at the moment. I'll have to check that book out.
  14. Thank you, everyone. Here's the last two of the year - I just finished both of these this evening

    68 Shelby

This was the first kit that I had built a few years ago after my accident. My hands didn't work very well at all and I've never been happy with how it looked. I decided to take it apart and re-do this without making any major changes, but just to kinda clean it up and make it look like I had wanted to back then. I hope you like it. Here's the engine Here's the dash and the underside and one final pic
  20. My 11 year old daughter decided that we both had to build the same car at the same time in the same way. According to the rules she set down, we could only work on the cars together at the same time. She also decided that we had to build them the same without me doing the "extra" stuff that I often do. She set the ground rules and I obeyed. Here is the result. The kits were built mostly box-stock, but she did want to have a real net instead of the molded plastic window net. The rest was done just as she wanted. I hope you enjoy these the engine compartment the underside a final shot
  21. Thanks, everyone. It's taken a bit of time to get this done, but I'm happy with how it all came out.
  22. Here's the Batmobile from Batman and Robin. I removed the chrome inserts that go under the body, as well as the spinning dome at the front and cast those in clear resin. I then colored them with transparent red to more closely match the color in the movie and installed lights. I drilled out the wheels and installed blue LEDs in them to light up the wheels. I also cut out the openings at the front of the car and behind the driver and put blue lights in there. Finally, I cut out the dash where the gauges go and installed lights in there. With the decals on, it now lights up the gauges. With the exception of the wheels (which I wanted to stay shiny), I put a black wash over the rest of the chrome to darken it up so it wasn't so stark. Hope you like it and here's how it looks with the lights on forgive the blurriness of the pic - I just couldn't seem to get a decent picture of the dash lit up Finally, since it's wired, it needed a case. I designed the case graphics after the Batcave
  23. Thanks, everyone. Ron, here's what happened to the '57 Ford http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=79239&hl=
  24. Here's my interpretation of Janet Guthrie's Laguna. The kit was the AMT/Model King re-release and I used the Powerslide decals. It's pretty much all box-stock as I just quite wasn't in to doing alot of extra work on it. I got the window net crooked and didn't notice until after. The engine compartment. and a final pic:
  25. Thanks. Yes, I did.
