New Moebius Ford Pick-ups 1971 Ranger XLT AND 1969 Custom SWB
Fabrux replied to SteveG's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
For 1953-1979 the bed is essentially the same, with some actually rather important differences that probably won't show up in scale. Once into the '73 restyle, the bed started getting a little bit taller and a little bit wider. For instance, a tailgate from a 73+ bed won't fit on, say, a 56 bed. I believe that for the 1980 restyle, the rails were flattened and the fenders changed (finally). This bed was used from 80-87 (87 had one-year-only fenders). Stepside beds were dropped from 88-91, reappeared again for 92-09 and now here we are without them again... -
How would this not be considered a Rat rod?

Oops, my bad. Either way, a rat rod has an icky GM motor. -

Fabrux replied to wrecker388's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you want to play semantics, my definition of a 'rat rod' would be one with a 'rat motor', your typical small block Chevy. Since this most definitely doesn't run a SBC, it can't be a rat rod, now can it? -

^You are correct; TTB was new for 1980. I'm not entirely sure, however, when they switched from leaf springs to coil springs for the solid front axle. -
79 Chevy 2wd Custom
Fabrux replied to RocketJockey87's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Looks to be the Monogram GMC pickup with a Chevy grille. Cool beans. -
To myself and my club, when we're judging our show it depends more on how the final product than what went into it. Contestant A built a stock kit and made it beautiful while Contestant B used resin parts, photo-etch, 3D printed parts, etc etc but the final product looks crappy. It doesn't matter that Contestant B spent all the extra time and money to utilize all those extra bits if the end results is poor.

New Moebius Ford Pick-ups 1971 Ranger XLT AND 1969 Custom SWB

I cut up a 61 F-100 that had wrecked rear wheel wells and the cab fits perfectly on both an AM 1:25 92-96 F-150 frame and a Lindberg 97-03 F-150 frame. The tail light section will need work to fit the bumpside box anyways, so as long as its close I'm good to go. -

I hope these are in the same scale as the AMT 61-63 F-100s. I want to use the pieces I have left over to replicate this bed that as sold in Argentina: -
That depends. A geotechnical engineer can be an engineer with a civil engineering background or a geological engineer, which has a combination of civil engineering and geology background. I'm more specialized in the geotech field than a colleague that took just civil engineering. Also, I can register as a professional engineer AND a professional geologist.

History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups

I believe the van kits in question are 1:25 scale, so the axle might be a bit too small for these trucks. -
So What does Revell Have up Their Sleeves?

Revell posted a video on their Facebook page: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=64816 -
I am a geological engineer-in-training. I mostly work with dirt.

Monogram Bronco
Fabrux replied to southernboy's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Another funny quirk about this kit is that has dual tanks. The front tank is incorrect for a Bronco. -
Hobby shops in bangor me?
Fabrux replied to MachinistMark's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I head to Bangor on a fairly regular basis and I can tell you that there are unfortunately no hobby shops left. If you look in the Yellow Pages you will find listings for a couple but I've found the addresses listed and they've long since closed. I just headed down to Boston for my honeymoon back in August and the hobby shops along the way start in Portland. If you head as far south as Boston I can recommend a couple shops to check out. If you or your wife do end up in Portland, definitely check out Ray & Robin's Hobby Centre. They're in the same area as the mall but be careful, they close at either 5 or 5:30. -
Ford Van... imported from Turkey!
Fabrux replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am both glad and saddened that I won't be here in Thompson, MB for the winter as there's a world-class winter testing centre here. I hear tell that you can see some interesting vehicles up here before they're released for sale. -
I keep an inventory of my kits in Excel. So far I only have for columns manufacturer, kit number (easier to track reissues), series (ex. Streetburner), title (## stock car), make, model, and year. I do like your system, my66s55, of keeping track of what condition its in, missing parts, etc. I think an overhaul of my inventory may be in order...

What I want to know is what is hauled in that thing. Not a lot of volume there... -
International Fleetstar
Fabrux replied to daniel gailloux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
This looks really cool! There's a water delivery company around these parts that still uses a Fleetstar. -

The Buick Regal GS comes with manual transmission standard. Automatic is an option. -
Automotive Family Tree

I'd just like to point out that out of the domestic manufacturers Ford is the only one that still owns themselves. -
Does anyone organize there models by era?
Fabrux replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I organize them primarily by manufacturer, with a couple of exceptions. I have a shelf for race cars (ie non-street), one for monster trucks and one for big rigs. -
History of Monogram's Squarebody GM Pickups
Fabrux replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I made a discovery tonight. The dashes in the pickups and the Blazer/Jimmy are slightly different. The pickup dash depicts a full trim level interior while the Blazer/Jimmy are a lower trim level. The Blazer/Jimmy dash has the speedometer in the left large opening while the right opening is the fuel gauge. The smaller set of four pods are I believe 'idiot lights'. The vent opening pattern is different and the passenger side of the dash has no emblem while the pickup dash does. In checking with my factory brochures the pickup seat appears to represent a Cheyenne or Silverado seat. -
My mistake. I should've known, considering I have three MPC cabs. I was thinking of the Monogram cabs...
