  1. Andy, I wouldn't worry about a Polishing Kit for that paint in the pictures. It looks like you have had any number of things go wrong here and I don't think polishing will correct them. High humidity will fog Enamel Clears (you don't say what brand, manufacturer or even Aerosol or AirBrush) in a heartbeat. You can see how rough your Clear is from the tiny air bubbles bursting and leaving little bitty craters. Or, Gases still evaporating from the color layer, or even beneath, Or, How long did you wait in between color coat and Clear? Was the model clean and dry when you Cleared it? Lots and lots of possibilities but you would need to give a detailed accounting of your procedure. Honestly, I would strip it. Give it a better try. CadillacPat
  2. But Andy, You just wrote this in your reply to the AirBrush Rant thread, "Art, I can easily afford a really good airbrush, but I'm saving up for other things." You can buy 200 - 12000 grade Wet/Dry Sandpaper in any good Hafdware Store for about 90 cents a sheet. Or you can order small individual emery cloths in these grades for about 3 bucks apiece through MicroMark. So, it looks like a priority thing, A good AirBrush, proper sanding tools or,------other things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat
  3. Thanks, I have some pics of how I make these, I'll post them. CdillacPat
  4. Andy, What kind of AirBrush is it??????????????? What paints are you using??????????????? What are you using for cleaner??????????? CadillacPat
  5. An AirBrush is a very simple tool. There is nothing mysterious about it or its use. A few seconds of backflushing in between colors, A minute at the most to wipe the needle and cup, Or maybe 4 to 5 minutes to brush and wash the parts and reassemble after a long session of painting and using Clear. Very simple, very fast, no big deal, And, I'm using House Of Kolor Automotive Paints. You have said you thoroughly cleaned your AirBrush and it won't spray anything, With that said I have to say your AirBrush is broken or you have assembled it incorrectly. You do say that you always have this problem. Has your AirBrush ever worked?????? People move up to AirBrushing to gain more control over their paintjobs. To get that extra control you have to be willing to take a few extra steps. CadillacPat
  6. I've carried on cases of Customized HotWheels on the way to Conventions. The Scanners' are always amused because they can distinguish them as HotWheels immediately. Sometimes I'm asked if they can see a few of them and I've passed out business cards and later sold a piece to one of the Scanners'. Only once was I asked if they could take out one of the VW DragBuses and test it in the Parts Per Million Scanner to test for explosives. CadillacPat
  7. I wouldn't worry about that, incandescent lightbulbs are not going to disappear. CadillacPat
  8. Futurabat, If 3m satisfy's you that's great but 3M can have a very ragged edge and Tamiya is a clean smooth almost vinyl like tape. How much cheaper can one tape be than another. I'm not going to haggle over 50 cents once I've laid down a few layers of paint. When I'm building something I don't look necessarily for the cheapest product but the best. Once you buy the Tamiya dispensors you need only order the refill rolls. Very inexpensive. Either way Tamiya is not expensive. CadillacPat
  9. Rick, Just consider how long it's taking your paint to cure without using one of these Ovens and cut that time down to a fraction. Any and all Paint curing (Petroleum based, water based or waterborne, lacquers) will be speeded up exponentially. Curing times will vary from type of paint to the total wattage of lightbulbs you use. I've already mentioned in the thread how quickly my House Of Kolor Paint and Clear take to cure. CadillacPat
  10. I use Tamiya Modeling Tape for all my tape jobs. Tamiya has a nice clean smooth edge and while it lays down without allowing any bleeding under it is also an easy release tape. Using a good tape like Tamiya means you've always got a clean straight edge for straight lines or curves. Then you can always fill in behind it with 3M Green or even use baggies to finish masking. 11. Hedgehog, All that info is already in the posts I've made. You're welcome, CadillacPat
  12. Hey Mark, I like that light red fade coming off that red stripe. It softens up the break and looks great. CadillacPat
  13. First I have a question, What do you mean by a medium box? What are your measurements? The glass is regular window glass, 1/4" Drying time will vary depending on what you paint, the size of the object, how much paint you use, and if you place the painted parts near the floor of the Oven or standing up on the end of a paint stand. The lightbulbs are incandescent. I use 75 watt or 100 watt There are no gases emerging from the booth. If you were to place and leave an open can of paint or reducer in the Oven, then you would slowly generate gases. I design these Ovens so anyone can build one. Once built you will have to determine the wattage of bulbs you use. If the floor area of your "medium" Oven is 2' square I would install 2 or 3 of the Porcelain Light Receptacles in the roof. You can twist the bulbs On or Off to adjust the temperature up or down. CadillacPat
  14. Bart, Like the dark green VW that Steve McQueen drove past 5 or 6 times in Bullit?? CadillacPat
  15. Jay since you're new to House Of kolor products, You say you are looking at HOK Kandy Kolor, HOK Kandy Kolor consists of Urethane Candies and Intensifiers (toner) Are these the products you are talking about or something else. I see completely different prices for a 2oz. bottle of KK from Coast AirBrush Just wondering if you are going to buy Candies as your first HOK paint. Have you thought about trying Basecoats first? Have you used Automotive paint (mixing and airbrushing) on Models before?? From experience, and wanting to mix and airbrush my own colors, I've stayed with HOK since '99. HOK Paint can be reduced greatly for our scale work. You buy a 4oz. bottle and you essentially wind up making 12 ozs. or more out of it. Color choices, user friendliness, quick drying, adhesion, durability and longevity are only a few of the things that help me make up my mind. CadillacPat
  16. Mike I don't have any satellite surveillance data or any clandestinely tape recorded phone conversations. I've been promoting HOK products for about 10 years. Take the info for what's it's worth to you, unless of course the whole thing is just eating at ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat
  17. You can buy Xacto and surgical shaped blades at any local Jewelry Supply Store. Everything from ergonomically shaped tweezers, dremel acessories, jewelers saws and blades, magnfying lamps, to loads of modeling tools can be found here. Or online at, http://jemcousa.com/index.php cadillacPat
  18. Mooneyz you can reduce some of those Basecoats and PBC's (the 4oz. bottles) much more than 50%. I reduce mine 100%, 1:1,and in some cases like reds, whites and other pigment rich colors, 200%. You can reduce HOK even more for miniatures allowing you to dust on super thin layers. The 2 oz. bottles in the front are Intensifiers (toners) that can be used in Candies, basecoats and even in Clear. CadillacPat
  19. I know Mike, I have 2 or 3 boxes of the different products that made up that marketing attempt. But, It was not made, mixed or anything by House Of Kolor. The Valspar name was licensed for this use. CadillacPat
  20. Ben, HotWheels made a tuned version of the Boss Hoss. Just one car among hundreds of other 1/24 scale HotWheels. There is a huge difference to those in the know of the HotWheels Community, between a 1/24 scale HotWheel and a 1/24 scale HotWheel in a Blister. In the Hotwheels Community we call those cardboard collectors, who buy for the packaging. Ben may have purchased his for the car, or the packaging. CadillacPat
  21. I started with and used a Paasche H for 5 years. Even did fades and tapejobs. One day a friend came over to show me his Anthem 155 and Iwata and the next day I went out and bought both guns. The step up to precision double action guns was a quantum leap. The Paasche H was a great gun for a first AirBrush. You use it long enough and you teach yourself how to make it work like a double action. But, There's no denying the superior performance and benefits of the Badger Anthem and Iwata. CadillacPat
  22. House Of Kolor, founded in 1956, is the brainchild of John Kosmoski, world famous custom car painter. Kosmoski sold HOK to Valspar a few years back. For my money, HOK when used properly, outperforms any other paint out there. Even when used improperly HOK is a very forgiving and user friendly product. Key word here--------urethane enamel.
