Paint Booth Venting
CadillacPat replied to FASTBACK340's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm glad that works for you Art. If I step out of the room I can't hear my Homemade Paint Booth either. I don't live in an apartment so I've built my Paint Booths with a little more power than those "commercially available hobby booths" I paint every day or night so adding in needless filters would only take up time and as I said, impede air flow. I use only House Of Kolor Automotive Paints and it appears from your post and some others that they must be using water based or waterborne paints, Big big difference. Art it doesn't look like you are posting just to "change someones mind". I'm sure your experiences are genuine, just as the years and years I've spent using Homemade Paint Booths and teaching others how to build their own. If it works for you that is all that is important. I just put the info out there for people to run with. CadillacPat -
How to stop model building burn out?

Paint Booth Venting

Bill, I wouldn't want oil anywhere near my Paint Booth. Add that to the fact that your main objective here is to vent harmful paint vapors/fumes. Paint particles are secondary. CadillacPat -
Paint Booth Venting

Think about it Geno, how much air pressure do you think you would need to force air from a 4" duct UNDERWATER. To what benefit would that help, think of the giant mess, The room would look like a scene from "The Poseidon Adventure" I don't know how you even think that could work, so, I'll let you explain the details to the guys wife. He's not wanting to know how to build a Bong, he's asking about Paint Booth venting. CadillacPat -

Adding filters into the duct line will impede airflow. I don't use filters in my Paint Booth. CadillacPat -
Bottom line------------------------- How big a market share do you think a tv show like this would get? Face it, TV is for selling margarine, tennis shoes and beer. I just don't see any big advertisers willing to fork over for time on a Model program. But, I bet a few of the people here would be prime targets for that "Hoarding" Series. CadillacPat

Best bang for the buck airbrush
CadillacPat replied to blackandwhite's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Your post doesn't really sound like you're itching to begin airbrushing. If all you want to do is paint some parts black and you want the simplest solution, just rattlecan it. Airbrushing is a step up from hand painting or rattlecaning that can improve your models enormously. Forget about Harbor Freight, it's the bottom of the barrel for anything but hand tools with no moving parts. About $300 will get you a decent Compressor and setup with AirBrush. Search around here some more. This subject has come up many times on this site. CadillacPat -
Are you looking for an Epoxy for it's binding properties or for one that is sandable? I use Apoxie Sculpt, Milliput White, JB Quik, JB Weld, or QuikSteel for body mods. For adhesion on very small jobs I use the syringe Epoxies, 5 minute, or 60 minute. Syringe Twin Tube Epoxies are real easy to use if you gently twist the syringe plungers to release small amounts. I use a Jewelers Saw to cut the syringes into two separate tubes. This makes them easier to use. CadillacPat

Are you asking if anyone else has gone through 4 days of camping with their family, or, been the victim of a break-in??????????? I can certainly understand how arduous camping with the family can be. CadillacPat -

The metal or composite lining will help a great deal in retaining and evenly distributing temperature. I used a similar material in lining my CadillacPat Fact-O-Bake Ovens, CadillacPat -
Define "Coats of paint"
CadillacPat replied to Der Bugmeister's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A coat of paint consists of 50% overlapping passes that completely cover the subject. Beginning at one point until the entire subject is evenly covered, then, continuing over again for the next coat. For Candies I overlap about 75%. CadillacPat -

Question about auto paint and decals
CadillacPat replied to Ken McGuire's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ken I've been teaching Modelers about House of Kolor Products and making Custom Decals for years, Cured Paint, auto or otherwise, will not react with Decals. I purchase all my Decal Paper from Papilio.com Here's a few shots of my Decals over House Of Kolor Paint, I lay down my Decals over basecoats, over candies, even under candies for ghost effects, and all are clearcoated with House Of Kolor Urethane Clear. Using my CadillacPat Ovens I can Clear over my Decals in 45 minutes, All Products Used Are Exclusively House Of Kolor, Of Course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat -

In today's Politically Correct Climate it might be best to use the word "flippant" very carefully when characterizing Hendrix. It's very close to the word "uppity". CadillacPat -

It would be frivolous to debate a dead mans thoughts, especially since you did not know him. Hendrix's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was a piece of musical beauty and artistic genius. As many times as I have heard it since then I never once envisioned it as a song of protest. CadillacPat -

You'l have to go back a little further than August 1969 to find the roots of the Freak Generation, back around 1963. Woodstock, sadly, was the beginning of the End of Peace and Love. CadillacPat -
