No Dodge in Nascar next year
CadillacPat replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
NASCAR has become so homogenized and plain looking that it holds no interest for me. I say combine NASCAR and LollaPaLooza, with the cars, bands and audience all on the track at the same time. Kind of like everyday city driving. CadillacPat -

" Lying Naked In The Road "
CadillacPat replied to CadillacPat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I realize that the BackStreet Boys, Justin Bieber and Lady GooGoo have garnished most of the airwaves since 1990 but the CMA pulls in a lot more bucks and audience than MTV. CadillacPat -
In efforts to put a positive spin on events in the last week, Randy Travis is releasing a new single titled "Lying Naked In The Road" to be sung to the tune of "30 Days In The Hole" More lyrics to be posted as they come in!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat

In 2005 I created several Houise Of Kolor Custom DieCast in an effort to show the execs at HOK how I have been promoting their paint system and products in the scale DieCast arena. House Of Kolor responded with 2 UPS vans full of Paint in gallons, quarts and 4oz. bottles, showcase stands, T-Shirts, Baseball Caps,Tech Manuals, CDs, coffee table books, John Kosmoski step by step CDs, HOK banks (cars), 2 dozen large banners, and loads of small giveaway items for me to use to promote their company. HOK sponsored (more paint and more Banners) an all day HOK BuildOff I staged at a Texas DieCast Convention sending along 2 of their local representatives. Here's some pics of one of those HOK Custom Cars. All Graphics are designed by myself on scanned imagers of the castings so everything fits perfectly. All Products Used Are EXclusively House Of Kolor, Of Course!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clear InkJet Decal Paper is from Papilio.com where I am the Moderator. Castings are all stripped with KleanStrip AirCraft Remover and then sanded and rubed down with #3 Steel Wool. The existing headlights were frenched and holes drilled in the front fenders for additional high beams. Holes were drilled in the rear for backup lights, brakelights and turn signals. All the Rhinestones are inlaid from the inside except for the ones in the existing headlight forms. First a light dusting of Adhesion Promoter. Then a basecoat of Shimrin White followed by SnowWhite Pearl. Then the fenders are all shot LimeTime Pearl and lightly coated with InterCoat Clear and a dash of Duo Green-Yellow Pearl-Ex powder. Fenders are taped off and the whole thing shot again with Shimrin White followed by SnowWhite Pearl to cover up any fender overspray. Again a light coat of InterCoat Clear for taping purposes. The beltline was taped off and the roof, hood and rear shot with InterCoat Clear with a heavy dose of the Duo Green-Yellow Pearl-Ex Powder. Enough was used to contrast with the SnowWhite Pearl sides. Next the hood was taped off and the nose trim was shot with Zenith Gold. Then the stones are inlaid, decals applied, pinstipe tape put down and windshield and rear windows trimmed. Finally the entire car was shot with HOK Clear with a dash of Brilliant Gold Pearl-Ex powder. All products HOK, Of Course!!!!!!!!!!!! These castings are going to be real HOT!!!!!! I'm still a huge fan of the HW Dairy but you can't help but like the style and wheels of this one. CadillacPat the UnCustomizer

Here's some more of my Route 66 products. I design all my Graphics in PhotoShop using scanned images of the castings so everything fits perfectly. My Custom Cut Chrome Center Caps dress out and Customize an otherwise bare factory wheel. Also are a couple of a new "London To Paris" Great Race theme. Here's the MBox F-100, All Products Used Are Exclusively House Of Kolor, Of Course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat

Here's a Limo I'm making out of 4 HotWheel Hummers. 10 years back I gathered up about 60 of these HW Hummers. I think they were Cool Collectibles or something like that, 4 bucks each. Pretty hard to find, the ones I had help in gathering were Silver or Orange. To keep this thing in line I nailed one piece square 1/2" molding to my work bench, laid in the casting pieces upside down next to it and then clamped another piece of 1/2" molding securely along the other side of all pieces. This assured a nice straight final piece. This was all done on top of a piece of Saran Wrap laid down on the work bench first. The Sunroofs were cut while the castings were whole. Sanding and shaping of the individual pieces was done first to keep any final sanding to a minimum and decrease stress to the full piece. All 4 pieces were laid in line, squeezed together and then the applying of small amounts of JB Weld began. .oo5 thickness Brass was inserted for strength where needed. The less JB you apply the less you have to sand down, decreasing stress to your Custom. This done the clamps on one side of the molding are loosened and the stretch is flipped over. Molding is placed back and reclamped alongside it. Where needed for fill JB Weld is painted into any seams with a toothpick. She's block sanded and primered. It's really not difficult just a little time involved. I still need to make the base and pick just the right tires. I already have melded 3 Hummer bases together for what looks like a pretty good base but I'm not sure If I will use it or not. The body came out so nice that I'm not in a rush and want to make sure that remaining aspects of the build, paint, base and tires, will do the body mods justice. Just wanted to show one of these works in progress before the paint goes on. --CadillacPat the UnCustomizer--

These little 3" Zamac bodies are great top work with. Different grades of sandpaper, a rotary tool, some files and small bits and these bodies can be changed up real nice. Here's a trio I built called "Shake, Rattle & Roll". The Fat Fender40 you saw in my earlier post is joined by a 40 Ford Coupe and TailDragger. All nice castings of real cars. They've all been painstakingly filed and sanded of imperfections to attain a high degree of realism. All have their headlights drilled out for Frenched set Rhinestones. The 40 Coupe like the Fat Fender has it's running boards removed to accentuate the fenders. Further emphasizing the rear fenders to make them more pronounced is an addon of QuikSteel and 1/8" Armature wire. They've all had the hoods opened up with a Jewelers saw to allow a Boneshaker engine to peek out. Each opening is also divided in half with a 1/32" Brass rod. Here's an early endeavor with those BoneShaker engines on a TailDragger body.. A little something I took to the Atlanta Convention about 3 years ago. I called this "TailShaker" Now here's the beginnings of "Shake, Rattle and Roll" --CadillacPat the UnCustomizer--

retro and rat rods, just dont get it.......
CadillacPat replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tubbs, Whatever I own I want it to look and drive like show room new. But, The Rat Rod trend allows those who don't want to wash, detail and polish their rides, the time to just drive them. I see this stuff at the AutoRama every year but I would not want it in my garage. For some reason the Rat Rod stuff always reminds me of the Dr. Frankensteins Laboratory dioramas. CadillacPat -
It's pretty basic, Take any Pizza crust and start building!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mushrooms, Chicken, Hamburger, Sausage, Shrimp, Crayfish, Pepperoni, Anchovies (lots), Layers of Cheeses, Diced Tomatoes, Olives, Jalapenos, Tomato Sauce, by the time I'm finished building it looks like a Casserole. I have to post on behalf of Junkpile's response for you to Practice, Practice, Practice. For the tiny almost negligible amount of info you gave concerning your problem, Junkpiles response is both succinct and appropriate. There is absolutely no big secret in AirBrushing whteher using Enamels, Acrylics, Lacquers or Automotive Urethanes, i.e., proper mixture, primer, air pressure and distance from object. You do actually say you can't remember when the problem started only that it began "sometime ago". The AirBrush is a very simple tool and it's use is quite self explanatory if you just pick i t up and try it. CadillacPat

Airbrush - paasche or badger?
CadillacPat replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The Paasche H was my first airbrush and I used it exclusively for 5 years. I used the Medium setup for Priming, Basecoats, Two Tones with Tape, Candies and Clear including Pearl Powders, all with great success. However, For just a few bucks more a novice can pick up a variety of airbrushes that will perform much better and with greater ease. Anyone with practice can achieve smooth finishes with external mix airbrushes like the H but an internal mix offers much better atomization. The Paasche H is a nightmare of parts within the 3 needle setups, i.e., screws, plastic washers and a number of places for paint to hide, cake, dry up and cause problems. I hated cleaning the H and with the purchase of my Badger Anthem 155 I quickly realized I had a gun of greater quality whose abilities were far greater. The extra heft of the all meal bodied Anthem 155 felt better balanced than the lightweight plastic bodied H. The Paasche H is better than any of the Master line or Harbor Freight Brushes, but that is not saying much, it is still a dinosaur. I felt a quantum leap in airbrushing when I moved up to my Anthem 155 from my old Paasche H. All of a sudden I was airbrushing with a fine laser scalpel instead of a semi controllable rattle can (the H). I have since purchased Iwatas, other Badgers and a Paasche Talon. I gave away my old Paasche H to a Modeler who constantly kept threatening to move up from his rattlecans but continued to procrastinate. CadillacPat -

Air brushing from a compressed air tank?
CadillacPat replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Many of us have set up very seriously for AirBrushing our Models. But, Some want to go as cheaply as possible while still achieving good results. Some want a portable source of air for AirBrushing when not having access to power sources. If you read or frequent AirBrush Sites you'll see an array of methods for compressed air. Of course, just like the gas gauge in your car, you will have to stay aware of how full your tank is. AirBrushing is the simplest of tasks, try it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CadillacPat -
Air brushing from a compressed air tank?
CadillacPat replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sure, You'll find people using Scuba tanks also as a source of compressed air. Air is Air so long as you regulate and use one or two moisture traps. Some people fill their tanks with CO2. CadillacPat -
How do I make a flat finish glossy?
CadillacPat replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think if you try spraying that aerosol can directly into anything you will quickly become aware that the "hassle' you speak of (straws) is the smart way to transfer paint. CadillacPat -
I don't actually collect them but, I have 2 climate controlled warehouses packed and stacked to the ceiling, part of the garage and two closets completely full. CadillacPat

You don't really think that Shelby, around the age of 80 when these Jada DieCast were made, actually signed the tiny dashes in these!!!!!!!! Of course Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of the early Jada, some that were made in extremely low numbers, may bring a price higher than retail, if they are left in their bubble blister. For the most part, especially the Jada Muscle Cars Series, these Jada Muscle Cars were produced in a slightly off and stylized version of the real thing. CadillacPat

John there is certainly a difference in the appearance of a Gloss White compared to a Cameo White. I've always leaned toward Off White Colors as opposed to stark Gloss White, especially in a two tone paint. Various brands of White Paint may give the same color result but are dependent upon proper Priming. Over the years I have used many brands of White but House Of Kolor Shimrin White gives a bright white finish from only a couple of layers or coats. Not all Whites yellow over time. As I said, If you Primer corectly, use a good brand of White and a Urethane clearcoat (not anything aerosol), your White will last for decades. CadillacPat
