  1. Thanks! I got the front wheels on and painted. I did them in flat black and dry brushed some graphite on them to give them a steel/brake dust look. I also got the shackles done and the the rear diff all painted.. i did the diff black. I never put adjustment holes on these shackle extensions, since i doesn't appear to have them in the pic.
  2. Thanks! I got the it on four wheels today to check the ride height.. i had to lower the front a little. Now i know how long i have to do the rear shackles, so i'll start on them shortly. I got the chassis detailed and weathered, i'm pretty happy with how it looks.
  3. No problem! i still haven't got around to adding the stripe yet, I've been busy on the firebird build. I'll probably just mask off a thin stripe and airbrush it on with some semi gloss white. Thanks for the compliments!
  4. Thanks for all the compliments! I just BMF'd the radio lense and used tamiya clear green over it to give it the look of being on.
  5. oh and here are the wheels i'll be using... i have to alclad the rears chrome and flat black for the fronts.
  6. I got the exhaust mocked up. I had to cut up the factory exhaust to work with the headers, and i dumped it just before the diff. I also airbrushed under the hood black as well as the upper rad support on the body.
  7. Thanks, it's a constant learning curve building models! I really appreciate all the advice on improving on this/the next model i build! I got the hood stripes done, just need to blackwash where the scoops are and mount the tach. it was a PITA masking those scoops!
  8. Tried something else new.. tinted the upper windshield with tamiya clear blue.
  9. Thanks guys for all the compliments and tips.. i'm still learning how to do these little details, so i appreciate the help. I ran one of my damp detail brushes down the panel lines to soak up more of the black wash to see how it would look before removing it all, and i'm happier with how it looks now... has the same look as the 68 shelby. I'm just gonna leave it as is on this model.. my next build i'll do the tips you guys described!
  10. Yes the charger has blackwashed panel lines as well.. Just not as noticeable against the brown paint. It's just acrylic arts and crafts black, which would wash off with water and a toothbrush. In the pics it really stands out as big panel lines against the yellow, but it doesnt look bad in person. It you look at a 1:1 car the panel line gaps are black.. What would you recommend? This model does have larger gap lines then the other models I built... But then again, most gm's from that era had bad panel line gaps anyway!
  11. Thanks for the comments guys! As for test fitting the body to the chassis... i only have to test it once on building the shackles and setting the ride height, so i'm not too worried about handling the body to much. Plus it's a Revell kit and they usually fit together so well. I usually don't even glue the chassis and interior tub to the body anyway, unless needed like most AMT kits. This model is very similar to the camaro kit and looks like the fit and finish is going to be perfect. I sanded the front fender with 400 grit on the front and airbrushed the repair area with some pink to resemble putty and then i lightly coated it in oxide primer. I know the repair doesn't look exact, but it's close enough for me! I also put the rear stripes on.
  12. Started some BMF work.. I'll have it finished off tomorrow
  13. Well i got the vinyl top sprayed on, i used tamiya semi gloss black acrylic thru my air brush... un reduced so it sprayed thick. I'm happy with how it turned out! i used some automotive pinstripe for the vinyl roof seam.
  14. It's tamiya yellow. I thought it was the paint for plastic models, but someone at the hobby shop mixed it up.. So it's the paint for polycarbonate plastic.. It's pretty much the same paint, just more flexible and doesn't shine as well (worked out perfect in my case) I didn't feel like going to town and exchanging it either. It smells just the same as the plastic tamiya laquer tho!
  15. Thanks for all the tips guys! I'll use some automotive pinstripe instead and just spray over it. I got the yellow on today... I'm gonna leave it with it's semi gloss shine... It turned out perfect!
  16. Thanks for the heads up! I might just cut some really thin strips of masking tape for the vinyl roof seams and spray some thick paint thru my air brush so it gives a texture... i'll try it out! that wrinkle finish paint is to risky.. you gotta lay it on thick for it to wrinkle, and i just don't wanna chance it on this model
  17. Thanks for the tip! i ended up ordering the back vinyl top from MCG... i hope it's like BMF and goes in the same! I've never used it before.. I got the roof sanded and put in final primer. Tomorrow i'll wetsand it and paint the headliner, then mask that off and spray some yellow! I started glueing the motor together as well.
  18. Thanks for the comments! yeah apparently the rear end was white, as well as the springs and shackles! I got very little progress done so far... i got the rear molding glued on, puttied and it's first coat of alclad primer. I was experimenting with vinyl tops and came up with this idea.. Using black wrinkle paint. It worked out great and looks in scale on my scrap body, so i might give it a try on this model. I have to glue on the vinyl top seams if i go this route. Or i might just buy the vinyl top kit.
  19. Thanks for the compliments!! i got some outdoor pics today... my camera really sucks! it was hard taking them without being blurry.. it's time for a new camera! Anyways here's a few more pics!
  20. Thanks!! I think your right on the white stripe! I overlooked that... I'll be adding it for sure! I looked on another pic and you can see it there... It stops where the other bodyline on the door begins. Thanks!
  21. Thanks guys! I've got the 68 firebird 400 on the workbench now! Its gonna look similar with the shackles and 70's style!
  22. Thanks guys for all the compliments!!! I'll get the outdoor pics of the car this weekend.
  23. haha yeah another one! yeah the shackles appear to be white.. which seems kinda weird! the springs look to be white as well. I'll have to make some mud flaps too. Looks like red seat covers as well.. or it's just a jacket on the seat. I'll have to ask my dad since he remembers this car well.
